Hi everyone and happy New Year - joined the group yesterday. Avid reader first and foremost. Been writing for a couple of years now including one catastrophe dystopia. Managed to read The Stand last year at last. I have a whole selection on my TBR list once I have finished a bucket list objective of War and Peace.

Happy New Year all! I'm Jack and I joined the group yesterday, and am a newcomer to Goodreads - I'm loving it so far. To be honest, I am a dystopian noob and having realized that I love the genre, am looking for some insperation and ideas for my next read. Just finished "Metro: 2033" and started on "The Martian" today.

Hi everyone, just joined today.

'Nineteen Eighty-Four' was a book that changed my life when I was given a copy by my English teacher at age 11, and I've loved dystopian fiction ever since. I studied it at university and I'm an English teacher myself now, and have to say that covering the book last year with y12 students (ages 16-17) felt like an ambition realised!

I should declare an interest in older, 'classic' SF and dystopia, but my most recently-published favourites are Margaret Atwood's 'Maddaddam' trilogy. Having said that, I'm open to persuasion that I've missed something brilliant!

I'm looking forward to seeing what the group can come up with ...

Hello Abel, I believe there are others around here that prefer more classic dystopia. However speaking of recently-published have you read Wool Omnibus?

I have not been payed to advertise it! I'm just saying since I always bring it up!

Hi there! Just joined and I am fascinated by Dystopian literature. My first book in the genre was Brave New World and since then I've tried to find different books in different subgenres and really explore dystopian worlds. My favorite to read is definitely sci-fi dystopian, although honestly I haven't read that many in that field. If you know any good ones *please* let me know. I'm super excited to be here! :)

Hello Raa. Status: Deadzone is one of my favourite sci-fi Dystopian books (a collection of short stories set in the 41st century - think Star Wars, but much darker). There are another 8 or 9 full length novels set on Necromunda.

Welcome Raa. I think a lot of dystpopians are classified as sci-fi's simply because they were ahead of their time (For example 1984), however I would consider something more futuristic for a sci-fi. From the books I have read the following would fall in that category: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?; The World Inside; Mockingbird.

Hello, all - thanks for letting me join Dystopia Land! :)

Let me tell you a bit about myself: I'm a rabid fan of scifi and of dystopia. In fact, I love it so much that I've been writing it since 2008.

My love of sci-fi and of writing have come together to form a Voltron-like structure of passion to become a full-time creative professional. I go into more detail here but I think you can understand why I'd want to take something I'm passionate about and turn it into a full-time job! :)


Aside from my own stuff, I love dystopian stories like 1984, Fahrenheit 451, Brave New World, Wool and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? In fact - one of my prized possessions is my original Blade Runner one-sheet that I have hanging in my office. It collects all of my Comic-Con contribution tags (http://i.imgur.com/oZL9d5Ul.jpg).

Hello! My name is Vendela and I'm from Sweden. I have loved the dystopian genre ever since I read 1984 for school a couple of years ago. I think its just brilliant, and the kind of book you could talk about for hours. That's also what I love about this genre. That the story never ends with the novel, you can always apply what you read on your own living situation and today's society, and discuss and compare and discuss a little more ;)

My favorite dystopian story probably would have to be 'I have No mouth and I must scream' - it's got to be the most unsettling piece of short fiction I've ever read - still sticks with me. Most people call it 'sci-fi' but if you look at the original definition of 'dystopia' then IHNMAIMS fits the bill
