I finished chapter 2 and I liked it so far. I reminds me of which I loved!!

I like Charlie, she's really cute and snarky. Also you can so tell (view spoiler)[ Alec likes her and she had absolutely no idea. The jury is still out on Nathaniel, I need to read more before I say anything about him. (hide spoiler)]

Sadie Ann is just rude to Charlie, but I'm only a couple of chapters in so we'll see if that changes. I hate when sisters don't get along. :(

So far it's cute....but yeah, a lot like The Summer I Turned Pretty (except Charlie is SUCH a better nickname than Belly.....lol)

Just finished chapter 6

Alec, Charlie and Nathaniel (view spoiler)[ It's so awkward and painful to see Alec play the jealous boyfriend and mark his territory when Nathaniel is around. I really like Charlie, but that girl is clueless when it comes to Alec. Nathaniel has a girlfriend? Hmmmm...the jury is still out and I need to read more again. (hide spoiler)]

Sadie Ann and their mom (view spoiler)[ are self centered. The world revolves around them obviously. I was so shocked when Sadie said that Nathaniel was "too young for her". And their mother!! "It's nice of them to let you tag along"????? Seriously!!! (hide spoiler)]

Her dad (view spoiler)[ asks too much of her. She is supposed to be enjoying her summer and he's working her like a dog and Sadie gets off scott free!! (hide spoiler)]

Okay, I just finished chapter 6 and I agree with everything that you said Kathy.

The thing that I like about the story so far is that it is very realistic to how adolescents think. Charlie is just learning (view spoiler)[ about what it's like to begin to feel like a woman. (Side note here...my pastor's daughter is almost 14 and recently began wearing cuter, more fashionable clothing and we were talking about it and she said that as soon as she turned 13, she just started to care more about how she looked.) We girls know why Charlie (Charlotte in this case, right?) suddenly thinks about her toenails. LOL (hide spoiler)]

Sadie is most definitely a brat and boy crazy. I'm glad that she isn't (view spoiler)[interested in Nathaniel. (hide spoiler)]

Nathaniel is just a really good guy. I love how he (view spoiler)[took an interest in what Charlie likes...the stars. I love his nickname for her: Star Girl. (hide spoiler)]

I think that since Nathaniel is such a good guy, perhaps Brandon (view spoiler)[just said he has a girlfriend to make sure Sadie doesn't fall for his brother. Or perhaps he has a girl who likes him but he totally doesn't like. I don't think there's any way that he has a current, real girlfriend or the whole story will be ruined for me. LOL (hide spoiler)]

Mom and Dad are both unbelievable! Ditto Kathy's spoilers! Both are (view spoiler)[ lacking in the parenting skills department. For whatever reason a parent has, I've known MANY who do the same thing Charlie's dad does. They make ONE kid do all of the work for one reason or another. (hide spoiler)] It's very wrong and I don't care for either her mom or her dad at this point.

One more thing this book is doing for me is reminding me of my "summer boys." LOL I am reminiscing about a few that go back to Corpus Christi, TX all the way to Yosemite National Park, CA, which is only a couple hours away from me). I think those summer crushes are sweet and (in my case anyway) innocent. I love the coming of age story line...such a sweet time.

(hide spoiler)] I might not have a real answer to that myself until later or even at the end of the book, but I'm pretty sure that even though they might not seem major, they play a part in the theme of the story if nothing else.

I finally made it to chapter 3 I don't know if it is just me but I can't get into it like I have been able to do with other Nyrae Dawn books, does it get any better? I feel like it is a really slow start

Emily, I am really enjoying it, but you know how it goes. Sometimes, for whatever reason, it's just hard to get into a book. It's very innocent and sweet to me. It does get better in my opinion. Right now I am starting "Nathaniel Chase Chapter One" and it's at a really good part. I'd say stay with it.

Okay, after finishing chapter 9 which was my FAVORITE chapter so far, (view spoiler)[ because Nathaniel said so many sweet things to Charlotte, got them a matching necklace, and didn't deny a "kind of" girlfriend. But then I got angry because he did get back with Rozi and eventually stopped writing emails. But now he's back and not quite the same, so I'm wondering if something is really wrong. (hide spoiler)] I am hoping not!

I'm enjoying this one .I like that it is really taking it's own storyline through the summer romance thing - it makes it different from all the others!

I just started the second summer
