Danielle Evans | 1743 comments Hello! If you are willing to review a book in exchange for someone else reviewing yours, then sign up in the "Sign Your Book Up Here" thread. We already have a couple of sign ups for the second round, but we need at least a few more in order for the exchange to work.

*Please be sure to read the rules prior to signing up. Thank you!

Hope to see some more authors on here! :)

Cole | 49 comments SPSS Step by Step: Essentials for Social and Political Science - Cole Davis
This is statistical testing for beginners, intermediate users and returners. If you don't have the SPSS software - which is very expensive - please review for clarity and organisation. (Compared to most books on the subject, this is quite a short book. Apologies, as published in hard copy, I can only send pdf files.)

message 3: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Cummings | 11 comments Cole if it is helpful I had several statistics courses and have used applied statistical analysis (market research) a lot during my career. I am not familiar with SPSS.

message 4: by Cole (new)

Cole | 49 comments Hello Christopher. If you wouldn't mind, it would be very helpful. Unfortunately, SPSS is very expensive so you would probably have to read it without being able to try it out. It would give me a reviewer within a different category; I already have had reviews from complete beginners, and relatively expert users, so to have somebody who is relatively experienced, but not an SPSS user would add something useful to the reviews the book has had (others can be seen on amazon.co.uk).

It should still be workable to discuss the book's structure, clarity of writing, etc. I would be most grateful for your opinion.

Christopher Cummings | 11 comments No problem. I am new here and I appreciate the opportunity to be useful. Please coach me on how this works.
Thanks
Christopher

Cole | 49 comments Basically, this forum avoids mutual reviews where possible by having a pool. So what you might want to do is to wait until 'books available round 3'. So when that happens, we both put our books in. When round 3 opens for business, you pick my book, I will pick somebody else's book and a third party will review yours. Assuming you're receiving email updates, then you'll get informed of this process as and when it happens.

Okay...that sounds great.

Cole | 49 comments I think so too. It means honest reviewing. Mutual reviews can be honest but it can pressure the relationship to some extent. (By the way: do note Danielle's comments about 'reviewer vs critic'. While you are quite entitled to put low star ratings on the net, we sometimes decide to send negative reviews to the author for consideration. Not that I've had any real scunner reviews thus far, but I'm letting you know about this in general. We generally want to be helpful. New authors are quite vulnerable; Jane Austen and Lev Tolstoy can look after themselves!)

LOL...I know what you mean. It is your baby that you have poured blood, sweat and tears into and there is that inevitable moment when you invite people to critique your new baby. It is always traumatic.

message 10: by Danielle (new)

Danielle Evans | 1743 comments Cole and Christopher, what do you think of this idea? Since we are having an issue in the current round, how about I list Christopher's book as available right along with all the ones that are already on there. That way, Christopher can review Cole's book - it sounds like he would be a much better and more knowledgeable reviewer than I would be!

message 11: by Danielle (new)

Danielle Evans | 1743 comments If Christine still wants to be a part of the exchange, she can review Jeremy's book or Christopher's. If not, I could review Jeremy's, and then he could review Christopher's. Sorry if this is getting confusing! ;)

message 12: by Cole (new)

Cole | 49 comments I'll go with whatever works for the group.

I like beginner reviewers as well as relative experts, however. The point is, the user is likely to be a beginner, who will want both the relatively expert view and also the perspective of the stats newbie.

Danielle Evans | 1743 comments Cole, thanks for always being willing to work with me. I appreciate it!

Now we have moved from statistics to permutations and combinations...LOL I will go along with what every you think works best. Thanks!

That seems like a fair suggestion.

Hi, Marisa!

Just go to the thread titled "Sign your Book up Here", and post your name, the name of your book (with a link as well), its genre, and what formats it's available in. Make sure you read the rules listed at the top underneath the Review Exchange folder.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask! :)

Justin Fenech | 17 comments Hi everyone,

I would love to get some reviews for my debut novel: Too Many Sparrows In Zaragoza. It is a philosophical travel novel which combines a flowing story with thought-provoking questions, and a stroll through one of Spain's most charming cities.

The novel is available to buy on Amazon in kindle format, but I can also send a free Pdf if fellow reviewers don't want to spend. Here is my Amazon page, go ahead and drop me a line!
