Shelf-a-thon Round 2!!

What if the top 3 winners of the existing challenge sponsor prizes for the top 3 winners of the next challenge? I'm thinking Amazon gift certificates??
What do you all think?

Someone's gonna have to refresh me on the penalty part. Is that where you can skip a shelf by reading a book from this group's monthly shelf? Or am I getting mixed up with something else.
I agree tho, it's been really fun doing this challenge!

Has anyone participating so far skipped any shelves?

Edit: TouchingShelfWizard, huh? :) I like it!

4. You may skip up to five shelves, but as a "penalty" for each skip, you must then read an extra book that contains our monthly shelf (Fantasy for February). You may count any other shelves that the penalty book includes. if you have read off all the shelves you wanted to but there are still time left to the game, then for each of the shelf that you skipped, then you’d have to read another Fantasy book.
So does this mean you add 1 shelf for each skipped book? I think I read one group book in March, so I guess I would add one shelf to my current total?

You are the Wizard Luann, the Shelf Wizard !!
"Pay no attention to that woman behind the book jacket..."

But I had forgotten the 5 shelf maximum.

As far as prizes - I'm not in it for the prizes but would be happy to contribute.
I crack myself up with these challenges. I don't have my eye on the prize but have been crazy about trying to cover as many shelves as possible and have spent HOURS chosing books based on the shelves they cover. Even my husband asks how many shelves my current book touches...time for a 12 step program??

I didn't worry to much about the skipping part, if there were some shelves at the end which I didn't get around to I was happy to leave them.

Instead of Amazon gift cards how about if the top 3 winners from one month offer to "loan" i.e. send a book they have enjoyed to the winners of the next month? It's good for the environment and good for my bookselves (the real ones, not the virtual ones!).

OOooo! Great idea!

yeah i havnt included my skipped shelves in my count - will add those at the end

How are we going to award prizes for this round? I believe Karen was going to award the prizes, but maybe we could have the 4th, 5th, and 6th place person award the prizes to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person. Perhaps send them a book? So currently that would mean that at this point in time Lauren, Jon, and myself would send a book to Luann, Laura, and Lynlee. We might have the top three pick the person they want the book from, so Luann would choose first, Laura next, and Lynlee last. Of course this could change since we still have about 9 days left.
What do you think? Any other ideas out there????

I sent Karen a message last week asking her to get in touch with someone. Told her Aus is a looong way from Florida - don't make me come out there.

i think shes in melbourne somewhere otherwise i could call round!

So I keep seeing mentions of an Excel file that will track shelves to make it easier - does anyone have it and can send? judithavory@gmail.com
Thanks in advance!

I tried to update it on my own but can't figure out how to make it total up on it's own.
Thanks so much!!!

I just sent it! :) If anyone else needs it, let me know and I'm happy to pass it along.

Hi Jen B,
Would you please send me a copy of the spreadsheet also? I am at brozbooks@cox.net.
Thanks!
Object of the Game: To have read off the most shelves from the official list below.
Start: 00:00am local time 1 May 2009
End: 00:00pm local time 31 July 2009
1. To have read a book off a shelf, you must read a book that is found on that particular shelf. ie. to have read book off the classics shelf, you must read a book that is found on "classics" shelf. For example, Pride & Prejudice is on the top of this shelf: http://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show?shel...
2. A single book may be found on several shelves however we will only count the first 5 pages of top shelves for this book. For example, you may find Pride & Prejudice are found on the following shelves: http://www.goodreads.com/book/shelves/18... however we will only count the first 5 pages of listed shelves for this challenge (note: this is to make it easier for everybody as P&P is found on 70 pages of shelves!)
3. You don’t have to read off the shelves in any particular order of shelves.
4. The name of shelves must MATCH EXACTLY to the shelf you are trying to count. No deviations are acceptable (check the spelling off the official list below).
6. It is permissible to read a book that is found on a shelf you've already counted; just ignore those when you are tracking them.
7. We will continue to report as we have already been doing with number of shelves touched and books read.
8. I was not going to do this for prizes, if that is okay. Just for fun!! I also did not add a penalty, unless you (group members) think we should continue with doing that. It is just fun to see how many shelves you can touch!!
