It is possible, because I can see them and it is a great feature. I think what you should do is separate the excerpts in a SEPARATE file. If you do it I don't see how the whole book will be available.

How to add an excerpt to a book page
1) While signed into Goodreads, navigate to the book page for the book you'd like add an excerpt to.
2) Click "edit details."
3) Click "upload an e-book" in the right-rail of the page (beneath the cover image).
4) Upload your ebook excerpt in ePub or PDF format. If you're uploading a PDF, the *entire file* must be the excerpt—only ePubs can be cut off at a certain percentage.
5) Select "Members can only read this ebook in their browser for free" or "Members can read this ebook in their browser and download it for free", depending on whether you'd like readers to be able to download the preview file.
6) Select one of the excerpt options—either "I am uploading the whole ebook. Cut off at ___ %" (ePub only) or "I am only uploading an excerpt" (both ePub and PDF), depending on whether you have an ePub or a PDF.
7) Save.
Again, please note that if you selected "I would like to preview this ebook in the Goodreads Reader before making it available to other members," the ebook won't be live until it has been processed and you've checked "make this available in the Goodreads reader."

The author will always see the whole book not the excerpt and be able to download the whole bookIf you want to check , log out of your account and then try downloading / reading you should then get the message at whatever percentage you set as available to go buy the book

I noticed that this thread is from 2013. I have looked all over for the option to add an excerpt to my book's Goodreads page, but no luck. Is this feature no longer available on Goodreads?

Librarians are volunteers who do the book cataloging & stuff like that.
You could try the authors' area in the Help section or you could contact Support (staff) https://www.goodreads.com/about/conta...
That feature is discontinued for years.
"I tried to 'add an ebook' on GR. My understanding was that I could add an EXCERPT that would be viewable directly on GR. However, after I followed the guidelines, I could download the FULL book, so I removed it. I did find a support document stating that the author always had permission to download the full book, so I logged in under a different account and could still get the whole thing. Do you know if it is possible to upload just an excerpt?"
