Never Too Old For Y.A. & N.A. Books discussion
Read 4 Review - Get to Know One Another

I'm Marni. I'm a mom to 4 ranging from 20 to 14. It's a his/mine/ours mixture. I met my husband when we were both in the military. I got out at the 10 year mark, he plugged through until he retired from it. I'm originally from Missouri and he grew up exactly and hour from me in Illinois. We settled in Pennsylvania though.
I've been a co-mod for this group, well, since sometime in 2011. I enjoy working with all the other mods, we each have our own strength which makes it a perfect fit.
I also work full time, have been working for county government for the past 7 years. We are not allowed internet access there though, which really stinks, so during the day my access is primarily through my phone and the boss hates seeing people on their phone.
I mainly read YA, but I also enjoy scifi and chicklit. I've read all the Shopaholic books and LOVED each and every one of them. My favorite YA genre is dystopia. Nothing like post apocalyptic events to make your day seem so much better.
Since September 2012 I've been blogging. I was scared to death of blogging and tried Wordpress at first. First time bloggers should stay far away from WP. It will have you swearing like a sailor. One of my FB friends suggested trying out Blogger and that's where I've been. I blog about YA/NA books. Promos, reviews, interviews, etc. It's just a way for me to share with others, connect with fellow book lovers, network and meet new authors and their books.
Dislikes? Westerns, nonfiction, cooked spinach, snobs, liver, long winded books, seeing recyclables in the trash bin when the recycle bin is within a couple feet from in and more that I just can't think of right now.
That's a bit about me. Let's hear from all of you.
Oh Marni, this is a great idea. Sorry the author did not come through, but lets hope members take to this. I learn something new about you everyday, like the fact you don't like Cooked Spinach, which I love LOL woohoo
Okay, my turn EEEPPP lol
Hey there everyone. If you don't know me by now, I'm Sylvia. I am another moderator of this fantastic group of ours. When we started this group back in 2011, we never thought it would become so popular and big lol. We just wanted a place to come together and chat about the YA books we love. We are so proud of our amazing group and we love you all like you are family.
I love my fellow moderators, and like Marni said, we each bring something unique to the table and we work and collaborate beautifully together and I swear, these women have become like sisters to me. We converse everyday and my life would be empty without them, or this group for that matter.
Let's see. I'm a mother of 2 young boys. Tristan, is my 5 year old who is going on 15. That boy is so headstrong and stubborn, hmmm, I wonder where he gets that from lol not me of course, but my hubby would say otherwise. My youngest son, Archer, who is 3 years old, is my special little boy. I'm not sure if you are all aware, but he has PDD-NOS which is Pervasive Developmental Disorder-Not Otherwise Specified, on the Autism Spectrum, as well as having Developmental Delay. Basically he is currently non-verbal and we have been going to intensive therapy sessions for over a year now, since he was diagnosed. It's been a very hard year for our family, and there are moments where I completely feel depleted and depressed, but I take one look at him and I forget all the bad days. He is an absolute joy and is always laughing and happy, which is a miracle. So, if there are days you don't hear from me, it's because they have been long and battling, but I try to visit here a few times a day if I can. You all help me cope by making me laugh and sharing your love of books with me :D
My hubby, Matty, is my rock and we battle everyday (cause he loves to argue and I love to win lol) but without him, I think I would of lost it completely. He puts up with all my talk of book boyfriends and watches all my favourite TV shows with me. I am an obsessed Jensen Ackles fan and I would have his babies if he asked me too LOL ssshhhh don't tell my hubby, though he knows it already.
I love reading YA, NA and any book that really grips me and gets me at the get go. I have read
at least 10 times, I've lost count lol and it would have to be one of my fav books ever and is being made into a movie...finally lol.
I loathe reviewers who bash authors instead of pointing out what they didn't like in a book. I hate drama and try to avoid it as much as possible, though if I see someone being wronged I have to step in. I can't take bullying and will not tolerate it coming from anyone, no matter what.
I always wanted to be an English or Art Teacher growing up, and I love to paint, take photos and write. As long as I can remember, I have always written stories and kept journals full. One day, you will see something from me ;)
Okay, I think I've written too much lol next!!

Okay, I think I've written too much lol next!!

I love reading, I've been a reader since the age of 3 so it's always been a big part of my life! I love Anne Bishop she's one of my favorite authors of all time. I've reread her

Some of my likes are: Popcorn, scrapbooking, RuPaul's Drag Race, Fringe, and anything tv related by Joss Whedon(Buffy, Angel, Dollhouse etc.)
Dislikes: Gelatin textured foods (fruit pie, jello), unreasonable people, and drivers who take a half a mile to get to the speed limit!
I think that's enough about me! :)

Dislikes...your gelatin remark reminded me of the time I tried flan. I couldn't eat it because of the texture.

I've always been a reader. Which made getting my degree in English a no brainer. Although I did consider history but then memorizing dates lost to reading Shakespeare.
I am a middle child and a Libra :)
I have an older and younger sister. We are all three years apart and our birthdays fall within a month of each other
I have 3 nephews. I just love them to bits. One is brand new so I can just cuddle him
Love: coca cola, pizza, TV, reading and sleeping. I am also a Joss Whedon (yay Buffy, Angel and Firefly!) Oh and hot guys on covers of books;). I have to say this group. You ladies crack me up!
Dislikes: Tunafish in a can, cleaning, laundry, and Twizzlers (smell of them actually makes me nauseous)

I think so, I'm not sure though. I think some of it has to be classroom here.

We do prac at the end of the year in the schools and you have to sit for tests at the assigned area but all work is via online. Our fellow moderator Jody is doing her Degree online to be a Librarian and something else.

LOL that's really great of them to do that for you. Pretty much my whole family loves it too but I'm trying to cut back and only 1 cup per day and if then, I may go without it for a week...but as long as I carry a can with me, I'm cool. It's my security blanket lol

I can drink it warm if I'm desperate but I prefer it crisp cold and with no ice cause it weakens the fizz lol

I just turned 23 on Sunday (whoot!!) and am looking forward to a new year. I've been married for 5 years on Thursday (double whoot!!) to my absolute best friend, Ken. We did 4 years in the military, just discharged (honorably) this past Oct, and are working on starting over, so to speak, with civilian life again.
We don't have any kids, and won't be able to. I had a hysterectomy a few years ago, horrible situation, and I'm still working through the depression of it all. Reading and getting lost in books certainly helps in that area.
We're primarily musicians, and are working (slowly) on our first album, yay!! :D Looking forward to having more time this summer to put some serious work into it.
I've gotten into book reviewing full-time, and a big part of that from this group. It certainly gives me something fun to do during the day, as I'm a house-wife :) Besides reading and reviewing, I spend my days writing, singing, dancing, cooking, cleaning, and playing with our pets.
We have 3 dogs and a cat at the moment, and are looking for some more to add to the mix. We're animal trainers, and specialize in dog training, which is a blast :)
I mostly read YA, although I love reading from any genre. I really love books focused on mind-powers and time travel. I don't really have a favorite author, although if I had to pick one, it would be Shakespeare (with Chaucer a close second). I really love the Uglies series as well- probably one of my favorite overall series.
Love: God, my hubby, music, books, mt.dew, ice cream, food, dogs, and art, to name a few things.
Dislikes: obnoxious close-minded people, erotica, humidity, animal cruelty, and kids on cell phones...all I can think of at the moment :P

When I was going to school for paralegal I was able to do the majority online.

Tunafish in the can grosses me out. LOL!

I get the major burps if it's warm. :)

Happy belated Birthday and Happy early Anniversary!
If you like time travel, you should check out The Vortex Series by Janine Caldwell. YA and fun. I also enjoyed the Ruby Red series, plus there's another one I can't think of at the moment but there's a girl on the cover with her hair going horizontal. LOL!

Nice to meet you Rose ~ Butterscotch Bubbles and thank you for joining our group and letting us know a bit about yourself :) Glad our group has inspired you in a way.
Happy belated Birthday and Happy Anniversary :)
I'm sorry to hear that you have had to have a hysterectomy. I cannot begin to understand how that must feel for you hun. My heart goes out to you but something tells me that you are strong and a fighter. But, if you ever need to vent or a shoulder to lean on, so to speak, we are here for you :) that's what our group does.

Happy Birthday and Anniversary! And THANK YOU for your service.
I'm sorry you have had to go through such a trying time.
I really enjoy the Ruby Red series. My sister lent me a good ages ago but I can't seem to remember the name. Grrrr. . . . Going to do some digging

Hi, I'm Brenda. I only just joined goodreads about a year ago but I've taken full advantage of it and have read way more books thanks to indie authors. I will read virtually everything and will force myself to finish any book (westerns and super sappy romance tend to be those for me).
I'm 21, still trying to figure my life out. I don't know what I want to be when I grow up. I've been with my boyfriend for about 4 years, I'm pretty sure we'll get married (though not anytime soon, we're both too poor!)
And I'd just like to say that I can't properly explain just how much effort you guys put into this group. I've looked at several more since joining, and none are organized as well as this. It's relaxing coming to this group, even though I tend to lurk more than commenting on everything aside for the Read 4 Reviews. :P I'm working on that though!

And now, having read through everyone else's stuff I'm just going to say a general "nice to meet you!" More people than I expected have served in the military, and I commend those of you that were/are for it.
...not a fan of warm soda. Weirdo. ;) haha just kidding but that's funny! Nice to meet you all!
