message 103: by Bárbara (new)

Bárbara Ventura (bventura) Depends on how bad it is...I normally finish reading, but I try to read, at least, half of the book.... If it doesn't get better and it's poorly written I give up!

Yeah me too...ugh...I hate it when I buy a book and I don't like...wasting my money on it...

I hate wasting my money too...When I'm not sure if I'll enjoy the book I try to read it at the bookshop, hahaha If it's good, I buy the book, because I love underlining my favorite quotes and write comments! Some people say I destroy the books by doing this, but I love reading them again and see what I thought when I was reading it for the first time!

and please don't notice grammar mistakes..I'm from Brazil!

message 107: by Selma (new)

Selma | 28 comments If the book is really bad, I stop reading. But if it's just confusing, and I think it's going to get better with time, I continue reading.

message 108: by Criss (new)

Criss (mummybutler) | 6 comments I guess it depends on if I feel that reading the book would "be good for me". If the answer is yes I keep on reading and take my medicine. However, some books I have never been able to get down, sorry Brothers Karamosov. The fluff, I pitch.

Hm...I think I I should do that underline favorite quotes and write comments on it...OMG that's awesome!! :)

:D you had it perfectly grammered.

Melanie Synard (mel35) | 1 comments I keep on reading

message 112: by Diana (new)

Diana Gotsch | 55 comments I rarely give up completely on a book. When I have it is usually about the half way point. Even then I often sneak a peak at the end just to satisfy my need to know.

message 113: by Henrique (last edited May 06, 2013 12:21PM) (new)

Henrique Marino (henriquemarino) I just stop. Read a book it's supposed to be enjoyable.

message 114: by Ebonee (new)

Ebonee | 8 comments I skip to the last chapter to see if the ending is worth my efforts. If not I do not finish it. If so I continue to read it.

great! hahaahah yeah, you should definitely try to make notes on your book ;)

message 116: by Crystal (new)

Crystal Tadlock (crystaldspence) | 9 comments I always try to force myself to finish it. Just because it is not good in the beginning doesn't mean it won't get there and then if I give up and don't finish it then i might miss a good story lol

message 117: by D (new)

D B | 9 comments Well it depends. If the book itself is the point of dislike, I discontinue the book. If the main character(s) are the issue, I may continue the book just to see of anything horrible happens to them. If it gets to a point where I see nothing bad happening to them, than I discontinue the book.

message 118: by [deleted user] (new)

Destiny wrote: "If the main character(s) are the issue, I may continue the book just to see of anything horrible happens to them..."

hehe this has to be the best motivation to carry on :)

message 119: by [deleted user] (new)

I usually have a rule. If I'm not excited about a book by page 60 then it is a lose. I have only gone back to try a book again twice. I do have an issue though of surprising myself by rereading books that I thought never had read.

message 120: by Constance (new)

Constance Register (crazyconstance) Put it down and read another one!!

message 121: by Maggie (new)

Maggie I will usually make myself finish it,even if I hate it. Not really sure why.

message 122: by Craig (new)

Craig | 23 comments I don't get as much time to read as I would like and there are so many great books out there. If a book doesn't grab me I will give it a couple more chapters to turn around. If it doesn't I move on to something else.

message 123: by Laurien (new)

Laurien (lauriencharlotte) Force myself to finish it, haha. I don't like giving up on a book, even if I really dislike it, purely because if someone would ask me why I didn't like the book, I would want to be able to come up with useful arguments and not just a simple answer.

message 124: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm a pretty stubborn individual so if I don't like a book, I will finish that book, I don't care how much I hate it, or how much it irritates me, I will finish that book if it kills me.

Zoe wrote: "I'm a pretty stubborn individual so if I don't like a book, I will finish that book, I don't care how much I hate it, or how much it irritates me, I will finish that book if it kills me."

Oh wow, that's cool!! Way to go!!

message 126: by Nur (new)

Nur Amira | 2 comments i think i'll just finish it.cause there may be parts that im gonna like about the book.

message 127: by Brenda (new)

Brenda (brendalindesouza) hmm i try to get to at least half of the book, then if i really dislike it i read other books, then try to continue with it again

message 128: by Rincess (new)

Rincess | 24 comments I don't wanna waste my money so I try finishing it. Still, like everyone else, if I really can't stand it, I use my epic mind powers to burn it. Or, you know, just shove it in my bookshelf so I will never see it again.

message 129: by ALLY (new)

ALLY (allynicjo) | 25 comments I get really pissy at first. Then I'll either continue to read it really fast or if it's TERRIBLE I will just not finish… But then I always feel guilty :/

message 130: by Ramya (new)

Ramya Kannan (ramyakannan) | 13 comments I continue reading the book in the hopes of coming across something interesting, or wishing that the plot eventually improves. But if nothing of the sort happens after I'm halfway through, I simply stop reading.

message 131: by Nadz HA (new)

Nadz HA | 7 comments I'll try my best to finish it. If I can't finish a certain book, something must be wrong somewhere. I can't judge a book if I didn't finish it.

message 132: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey Moore | 1 comments I don't know how to start my own thread so I am sorry in advance for posting here...I love books like Crank, go ask alice, 13 reasons why...etc and I cannot get into any other types of books I am very hard to please. any suggestions on books like those?

bibliophile (Romance Addict) (bibliophilebm) | 8 comments When I don't like the book, I would simply go thought it quickly just to see what happen. I used to force myself, but then i thought I liked reading for fun, why am I forcing myself doing something that's not fun?

message 134: by Anica (last edited May 18, 2013 01:39PM) (new)

Anica (anicav) | 5 comments I give my best as a reader, and if reading is done for the pleasure and leisure, it is only fair to stop it when it ceases to be so. There are so many books waiting to be read, and so little time. I am definitely in favor of dropping the read if it does not work. However, I am quite patient, and only if writing is terribly bad, I give up easily. Usually, I give it at least one third, and pay attention to feedback provided by other people.

message 135: by Mary (new)

Mary | 15 comments I slog through it. I don't like giving up what I started. Yet, I have quit dull books before, but it's rare.

wandering. bibliophile_ (wanderingbibliophile_) i usually try to read few pages more to see if i become interested again or something but if still i don't like it i just stop reading that.

message 137: by Adri (new)

Adri (jadri7) | 76 comments If it depends on how bad it is, there are some that I'll force myself to finish, others I abandon with great sadness.

message 138: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Jones I normally carry on with the story as it would annoy me to have an unfinished book lying around. However, if it was truely terrible then I may stop......that would be unlikely as it would literally need to be the worse book ever ha ha.

message 139: by Ann (new)

Ann Sullivan | 1 comments I have to finish it. There was only one book where this was an issue, Catherine Coulter, I can't remember the title. I bought it at Target finished it that night and brought it back the next day. It was horrible, but I needed to know if it got better. I totally regret that now. Never reading anything by her again.

message 140: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 3 comments After a few chapters I usually stop if I can't get into it, that's what happened with The Life of Pi, but I know I will at some point I will go back to it and finish, whether it takes a few days, months or years! Haha otherwise I'll always wonder what I'm missing out on.

message 141: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Binkley | 61 comments I'll try to finish it, usually because I don't like to waste my money.

message 142: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddiemoiselle) | 9 comments I have read fourteen books this year and have disliked about ten of them, but I read them all. I don't like not knowing what happens and I hate cheating by reading spoilers rather than the book. I feel like if I have the time to read the ending, I have the time to read the book. There have only been a small handful of books in my life that I just didn't finish once I started.

message 143: by Tiffani (new)

Tiffani Martin | 1 comments I try my hardest to read the whole book. Sometimes if I had enough, I'll stop reading it and will either do a giveaway or donate it to my second-hand bookstore.

message 144: by Bonia (new)

Bonia (boniamachbub) i just stop and move on to another book

message 145: by Shayna (new)

Shayna Varadeaux (ShaeAnn77) | 99 comments If it's a read to review for my Paranormal Lovers group I have to see it through but man I wanted to crack my head open with my last read I didn't get interested till I was 55% of the way through!!!! Ugh! Happy that's over!!!

message 146: by Shayna (new)

Shayna Varadeaux (ShaeAnn77) | 99 comments But other than that I give it a one star rating and move to read and my not gonna read list!!!

message 147: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Schuster | 5 comments I read 10 pages and if I really don't like i stop. Maybe 20 if I am on the fence. Life is too short and my reading time too limited to read what I don't enjoy. I had to read books I did not enjoy in college and pay for this torture! Now I read for pleasure at far less cost!

message 148: by Arwen (new)

Arwen i either finish it or i just dump it

message 149: by Leora (new)

Leora (magratgarlick) | 25 comments if it's just a dull story, I usually slog through. Most recently I did this with The Long Earth by Terry Pratchett as and a collaborator whose name I don't remember. If it's poorly written, like Marley and Me, I throw it out.

message 150: by Christian (new)

Christian Maria Morgan muscle through. grit my teeth if it is for school. Usually i finish it, but if I don't I feel real guilty. Silly right? Sometimes I promise myself to finish it later, but never follow through.
