Bian is always tired | 53 comments Well it varies, depending on my interest in the story, the length etc but about 1 day for short books (300 -500 pages approx.), 2 days for 500-700 pages and 3 days to a week for longer books. I read most of the Song of Ice & Fire series in a week.

message 3: by Deborah (new)

Deborah | 42 comments Depends on the book. But I am generally a slow reader despite degrees in literature. Usually, English majors are faster readers than me.

If it's a really deep book, slowly because I'm thinking so much.

If it's a book that's good at building tension, I can't stop until it's finished.

If it's a boring book, extremely slowly until I finally say it's not worth my effort and stop.

message 4: by Mimi (new)

Mimi few days or weeks ! depends on the thickness of the book! and how interesting it is .

message 5: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Urtso (jordanurtso) | 8 comments I try to spend at least two weeks on a really good book. I usually bust through the first 5-or-so chapters in one day, and then I slow down. And by the end (last five chapters) I so badly don't want the book to end that I usually take my precious time to really make it last. Does anyone else do this?

message 6: by Susana (new)

Susana | 52 comments @Amber
I had a hard time with the book thief. It was such a big book that to this day I don't really get the meaning of it all so I did't really connect. Sometime in the future I will probably re-read. Hopefully this time I will read it faster then I did the first time. how long it takes me to read a book depends on how interesting it is and also how much time I have read. I'm reading the host right now and its really interesting but there is soo much going on that I haven't been able to read it recently.

message 7: by Ana (new)

Ana Avila (anaavilaosuna) It mostly depends on how long is the book and how many others I am reading at the same time.

What Jordan does, oh well seems very cool, but I wouldn't have the strenght to do it! Haha.
When I like a book very much I MUST finish it or I won't be able to do anything else!

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

@Jordan
i do also do that with books sometimes when i am about to finish a book i take it really slow because i don't want it to end and i don't want to stop reading the book sometimes it even makes me sad when i come to the end of a book at times lol but i always move on to something new and i keep reading :)

message 9: by Leilani (new)

Leilani | 19 comments Usually 2-3 days. depends on how good the book is.
Doesn't matter what size the book is.

If i have nothing else to do and it's a good book, i would spend all day reading it. And would finish it in only one day.

message 10: by Purbita (new)

Purbita (Read-addict) | 50 comments Depends on how fat the book is..
If it is 300-400 pages .. Around 7-8 hours (reading continuously..which is usually the case)
otherwise 2 days max (like 7th book of harry potter)

message 11: by Iris (new)

Iris | 27 comments Depends entirely on the book. I read fast, so I can finish a medium length book in a few hours.

I read the 4th Harry Potter in one day (of course I ended up not remembering any of it and I had to read it again). It could also take a few days or a few weeks (*cough* Game of Thrones)

message 12: by Maja (new)

Maja (venus-and-jupiter) | 2 comments It depends, but for example, I read the book thief in 3 days ^^ mostly it takes about 3-7, depending on how much I like the book and how thick it is :)

message 13: by fabby (new)

fabby | 480 comments If I love it a day it depends on how many pages it has

message 14: by Laura (new)

Laura | 168 comments depends on the book and what day as I have a toddler I've done about 320 pages today

message 15: by Isabelle (new)

Isabelle (izzie5525) books i like i read really fast. I read Inheritance which as I think little over 700 pages in 4 days. I dont like not finishing a book and have only done that twice but if I dont like a book it can take me weeks to finish

message 16: by Destany (new)

Destany | 25 comments If I really like it 2-3 days if I don't a few weeks

message 17: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne | 15 comments If it's a book I really enjoy I usually read it in 2-4 days. I read Sarah's Key and didn't stop reading until I was finished, took me 12 hours. If it's a book I'm not that into it usually takes me a couple weeks although sometimes I try to finish it faster so I can start a book I think I will enjoy more.

message 18: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Perry | 229 comments it usually takes me a day to get through a book, if it is really good I can read two books in a day and a half

message 19: by Reaghan (new)

Reaghan | 52 comments I agree, it depends on 1) interest, 2) time 3) if I need sleep that night!

message 20: by N (new)

N | 276 comments Depends on how much life I'm willing to sacrifice :) I can do a book a day - if it's interesting and modern. I read War and Peace, Les Miserables and a suitable Boy but they took me over two weeks each I seem to remember. If it's a GREAT book my family eat freezer food and wear crumpled clothes :)

message 21: by Malu (new)

Malu | 37 comments Depends on interest. I can read a book in one day. And depends on how long is the book too..!

message 22: by Sónia (new)

Sónia Tigol | 15 comments Depends on the book, I've read books that took me 6-8 hours to read them. There were others who took me 1-2 weeks. But usually it takes me 1-2 days because I always read two books at the same time and also because I have a family to take care.

message 23: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (anbarnett) I just read 2 books last week...It took me like 8 hours to read and the other took two or three days to read. So I guess it just depends on the book

message 24: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 38 comments It depends on the book. Sometimes it takes me a few days and sometimes it takes me only one day.

message 25: by Mschell (new)

Mschell (authormschell) | 6 comments Depends on the book, I think.

message 26: by Claire (new)

Claire | 27 comments Depends... One time, it took me three weeks to read 3/4 of a book (I didn't like it)... Another time, I read five books in a week... Just depends...

message 27: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Logan (lisalogan9) Deborah wrote: "Depends on the book. But I am generally a slow reader despite degrees in literature. Usually, English majors are faster readers than me.

Same here Deborah! I thought I was the only slow reading English major :)If I speed through a book, I don't get much out of it or I'll feel like I missed a clue or important detail.
Lisa

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

Forever!!!!! Especially if I like it....Trust me, I try to juice ever goodness out of every paragraph of the books I read...lolz....(In real terms, maybe a week, depending on how good it is)

message 29: by Xiamera (new)

Xiamera | 12 comments If I love it I will lose sleep over it so a book of any length takes about 1-2 days for me to read. If it doesn't really catch my interest it may take a while before I get around to finishing it.

message 30: by Maggie (new)

Maggie Depends on how much I like the book, how much free time I have and how long the book is. I was home sick Saturday - Tuesday and read 3 books. Other times it has taken me 1-2 weeks to finish a book that I'm not enjoying or because I'm really busy.

message 31: by Christine (new)

Christine (MissWinterly) | 18 comments If I love it, a day? If I don't, it could take months.

message 32: by Lauren (last edited Apr 26, 2013 06:32PM) (new)

Lauren (booklover723) | 10 comments if I am just reading a book a moth.
if I like a book then a week
if I love a than two or three days.

message 33: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Raygoza (jenniferraygoza) If its a really good book I can read it in two days.

message 34: by Iz (new)

Iz Alcausin (izalcausin) | 28 comments It really depends on whether I'm busy or not. When I'm not busy, I can finish a book in 6-7 hours. But when I'm busy, maybe 1-2 days. :)

message 35: by Chai (new)

Chai Smith (perfectlyunperfect) | 12 comments It depends on the quality, size and the available time, but I can generally finish most large books with small print in 2-4 days and smaller books in about a day

message 36: by Sheila (new)

Sheila | 21 comments It depends how thick a book it is, how much time I have work comes first & how interesting the book is. When I was younger would read 2 books in a day mostly love stores Mills & Boon & Barbara Cartland.

message 37: by Arwen (new)

Arwen anywhere from 1/2 hour to 2 days

message 38: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey dossa (mrs_lopez2011) | 5 comments it varies for me. Some books I finish in a matter of days while others take e up to a week to finish! :)

message 39: by Guluna (new)

Guluna (toastedbagels) If I read a book within two days, it makes my head hurts, that's also a reason I avoid series....
So It takes me at least two days to read a single book. :)

message 40: by Denny's Eggs (new)

Denny's Eggs Usually about 2 days! Unless if it's a really thick book then maybe a few more. It also has a lot to do with how good the book is.

message 41: by princesz (new)

princesz (goodreadscomjjc) | 2 comments 3 days if the books is good and when i'm not busy

message 42: by Tom (new)

Tom Krug (thomas_krug) | 22 comments 3-4 days if the book is decent. 2 days if it's excellent. 12 hours if I can't put it down.

My one friend tore through the whole Harry Potter series in a day. To me, there's a serious problem there. His words per minute skyrocketed, but his comprehension plummeted.

message 43: by Kat (new)

Kat (itskatco) Well it depends. If I really like the book and I'm not that busy, I can finish it in day! :)

message 44: by Robert (new)

Robert Spake (ManofYesterday) | 61 comments Jordan wrote: "I try to spend at least two weeks on a really good book. I usually bust through the first 5-or-so chapters in one day, and then I slow down. And by the end (last five chapters) I so badly don't wan..."

Yes! I might even put the book down for a while just so it'll last longer.

Generally I read pretty quickly, but it largely depends on the book. Some are pretty heavy, Don Quixote I enjoyed but I couldn't read that in long sessions. Other books I just won't be able to put down, so far anything by William Somerset Maughm I just wanted to finish in one sitting.

message 45: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) I read a book in less than a day if I am emotionally consumed by the characters. I just can't go to sleep until I reach the end.

message 46: by Xxcreativebunnyxx (last edited Apr 27, 2013 04:14AM) (new)

Xxcreativebunnyxx | 24 comments About less than 24 hours if the book is pretty good. Probably 1 to 2 days if the book is not that great.

message 47: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Really fast if I have a lot of time to read and if the book is short and interesting, or maybe a month if the book is long and drawn out or if I don't have a lot of time to read

message 48: by Karen (new)

Karen L (1karen1) | 18 comments I pretty much average a book a day. But a few weeks if I'm reading out loud to someone. I have to stop to allow my throat to heal.

message 49: by kierra (last edited Apr 27, 2013 04:42AM) (new)

kierra (karmania) I don't like reading the whole book in one evening. Usually it takes me several days if it's interesting, so I can think or visualize it between reading. But more often it depends on my free time :)

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)

I usually take 2-3 days on most books as long as I'm not swamped with school work and projects. But I take 4-5 days on books with smaller print. I don't usually have any book longer than a week. If I really like the book and I'm hooked I'll finish it in a day.
