Hey Rothfussians,
I recently downloaded this book for free on my android through Kindle (link below)

http://www.amazon.com/Eternal-Knight-...

I would really love some of you to give it a read as well. I enjoyed it quite a bit, I loved the female veiwpoint, I felt like it was really relatable. The world has a nice flesh to it as well and is interesting. I couldn't believe it was self published and edited, as I'm sure any of you who download free books from amazon have realized, most of them are utter trash, but I thought this was an excellent novel and deserved a bit of recognition.
The Author would really like to get a group going to discuss the first book and possibilities for the second and it would be awesome, in my opinion, if the Rothfussian's were a part of that since I think the people on this board are very good comprehensive readers who can offer some of the best feedback on the genre and where they want to see it going.

Anywho, hope some of you would be into it. It's not super long, I'll have it finished today and I've probably only put in a good 12 hours of reading - but yes, I quite like what I've read so far.

Michael Lavin | 71 comments I am on my Laptop which i do not read off. So my question is how would i download it to my phone because i do read off that. Is that link compatible to put into my phone? I am a HUGE advocate of supporting Mom and Pops as well as Local business. American made is something i try to look for on things i Purchase. I will read this and when you get a Thread going i will comment critically so the writer can use it to better themselves. I am also in the process of writing a story and Most likely going to have to use the internet to spread word and help publish if not Self Publish so I will read this amd Hopefully when i Put my story out there All My Goodreads peeps will do the Same For Me. (but first i have to figure out how to download that on my Phone.)

You may have to download the kindle app to your phone if you do not already have it.

This link you should help you if you don't already have the app which should be free. Mine was.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html...

If you already have the app / Once you have it you can just click to download and it will show up in your shelf section of the kindle app, you might have to make an account, I already had an amazon account so mine just linked right up instantly. If you have any other questions I could probably help you out, even if I don't know the answer I'm pretty good with google. LOL!

Best of luck on your own writing, I'd be more than happy to read something you've written and offer opinions if ever needed. I like reading these free books because, if I do like one, the authors are actually pretty accessible and I think it's cool to talk to someone who created something I found engrossing and interesting.
Thats one reason I adore Patrick Rothfuss, best selling novelist, and still tries really hard to connect with his fans.

Yes, I was directed to this site by Pat just last year I believe. I fell in love instantly. Great site, it has it's glitches here and there, but overall Goodreads is my internet home. I don't even go on my facebook anymore LOL!
I will definitely give you heads up if I run across anymore new authors I enjoy. I've been looking for some good Indie stuff since I like being one of the people who read a book before its ever popular.

Jessica | 117 comments Done and done. I look forward to reading it and helping the author out. It will be end of May/somewhere in there before I get to it. I am in the process of waddling through Anna Karenina. Good book but I have been super busy this week (friend's wedding) and no time to read. I hate it when I get behind. I will have to get the audibook version to get caught back up.

Do a lot of people in our group write their own stuff? I was just curious. Good luck in the writing @Michael. Hopefully we can read what you write soon. :D

Sweet! Now I'm excited, I really want some people to talk to about this book obviously. LOL

I'm not sure how many people on here write...eh, what reader doesn't dabble in it here and there?

I don't write much really. Minus D&D Adventures and world building.

message 8: by Jessica (new) - added it

Jessica | 117 comments I have always wanted to write something. I just have nothing to say or no story to tell. 6 years ago I picked up the pen and a composition notebook in an attempt to write. But I found I couldn't form a good story, so I gave up. I am always inspired by what I read but that's as far as it has gone.

I feel that way often as well Jessica!

I love reading these stories, and I think, wouldn't it be cool if this happened or this happened, or a certain scene would work better if this had happened before it instead of after....
But I have a rough time forming my own original story to do that with.
Maybe we are more editor material than actual writer material?

message 10: by Michael (new)

Michael Lavin | 71 comments Listen Both of you are readers who understand how storylines run and Sub Plots. When you write throw all that out the window and start with a basic outline of a story. Then you go back and start branching off storylines and tie in pouts. But if you do it like a map you can SEE it better. The only Difference is you need to KEEP writing and Plow through those Blocks. It as taken me years to try and do that but lately ive been able to get it going. Start small Write up a small Short Story maybe a paragraph maybe a page. Write it all down and then you can go back and add or move things around but just get something down and you will feel inspired to polish it! Im not saying anyone can be a "Martin" but ALL of us, Deff. us Readers, Have a writer inside of us and a story to Tell. SOOOOOO Let it all out Girls and share with Friends Tell Your Story!!!!!

Thanks! Nothing beats fellow readers uniting AND inspiring one another. Love this! I needed that. I am hoping to use some personal experiences from life (one day) as a basis for a story. We shall see.

I love talking about books and dissecting characters. So many interesting conversations can come from those moments. I am saddened that PR's NotW is not fresh on my brain, as it used to be. I read the theories often on here, but can't contribute a lot due to that. Hopefully I will get to listen/reread that stuff soon.

Anyway thank you for the awesome inspiration, Michael. :)

And @Amber, yes i might me more of the editor/creator of ideas than an actual writer. I have actually always wanted to get into book cover design. Maybe one day. :D

Beth (bethd) | 28 comments I'm about two months late to this discussion, but I've only recently been active in the Goodreads groups I joined. (I'm kind of a Luddite, so this interweb stuff can be overwhelming.) Anyway, I like the look of this book, so I just downloaded it, and I'll read it as soon as I finish the book I'm reading now. Amber, did the group ever get started?

message 17: by Amber, Master Sympathist (new) - rated it 5 stars

Amber (ivorydoom) | 1471 comments Mod
Nope, I've only got one other person to read it so far. (That I know of at least) The second is supposed to be coming out in a couple months. August I believe, if you do end up reading it let me know, I'm thinking if we have at least 5 people to offer variation, we can probably pull the author chat together and have a nice discussion.

Beth (bethd) | 28 comments I finished yesterday morning--love Hadde and Maret grew on me, especially since she grew so much. It made me want to learn archery.
I agree that the world is well developed and interesting--I want to know more and I'm looking forward to the sequel. So if there's a group, count me in!

Brian, I think it is available as a paper book, but the e-book was a free download.

Oh I'm glad you liked it Beth. Maret grew on me too, especially after what happens with Waltas and the ending with Orlas, that made me get teary eyed.

I liked how Hadde stuck with her friend though, even when she was being kind've a jerk.

I know, at first I was thinking, Why are you making excuses for her?!

Then after everything that happened I realized that Hadde was above all that.

Beth (bethd) | 28 comments I'm afraid my Luddite lack of technical skills means that I don't know how to make a spoiler link...so, yes I agree!! I felt the same way!
(How do I make the spoiler link? I have to ask my 18-year-old niece how things on Twitter work...)

Yah, I was pretty stoked when I figured out that Spoiler Tag as well.

You can also bold, italics, and underline the same way except just type the first letter.

Like

< i > fancy words < / i > for italics and so on for the others.

Okay people real spoilers are happening again!

Matt Heppe (mattheppe) | 5 comments Gah! How did I lose track of this thread? It's not like there are dozens of conversations out there about my book!

I had a bad summer of writing. Lots of excuses, none of them acceptable. On the bright side, things are going great right now. I am making terrific progress and just finished writing one of my favorite scenes in the entire novel.

I love some of the ideas you are expressing. Some are more on the mark than others! I'm not telling who is on the right path.

Right now it looks like a December/January release for Child of the Knight. I'd love to beat the holidays, but that depends on my critique partners and editors (and me getting chapters to them fast enough).

I'd love to discuss the novel with anyone who is interested. I'm sure I could drum up a few readers to join the conversation.

Best,
Matt
