Grave Peril (The Dresden Files #3) by Jim Butcher - START DATE:May 16, 2013

I finished Fool Moon yesterday and enjoyed it overall. Will try to get to Grave Peril by the end of the month but I have some other audios I want to listen to first. Listening to

Is that what you were looking for, ShoSho?
“Loup-garou,” Bob said. “Or that was the name Etienne the Enchanter used for them, before he got burned at the stake. The loup-garou are the major monsters, Harry. Someone has cursed them to become a wolflike demon, and usually at the full moon. That someone’s got to be really powerful, too, like a major heavyweight sorcerer or a demon lord or one of the Faerie Queens. When the full moon comes, they transform into a monster, go on a killing spree, and slaughter everything they come across until the moon sets or the sun rises.”

Thanks:)

I'm skimming along. Post your Q's and I'll do my best to answer.

I also bought the paperbacks for the next couple in the series, so I'm set.
Off topic/Info for ShoSho: I went to a different library to get Scent to Her Grave, the first in the Bath and Body Mystery series for "II" of the Double Decker challenge. I just couldn't start out of order. LOL!
My regular library was closed, so I could NOT get Tangle of Need - but it is still available, so I plan to get it on Monday.

I also bought the paperbacks f..."

ShoSho’s Questions for Chapters 1-12, as Answered by Lisa Kay
1-Michael is one of Knights of the Sword, huh! I’m sure we hadn't met him in the previous books. I like to know how Harry and Michael met. Did he know Elaine? What do you think of him and his wife? He is too faithful for my taste, with all the you can’t lie even for the greater good and stuff!
Too faithful? LOL! Okay. I think some of Harry’s best scenes in the book are the ones with Michael. I love the….well, contrast, if you will, between their characters. I think Harry is a good person, but he doesn’t see himself a “good.” To me, it shows that there can be various kinds of good instead of just degrees. Just like his character juxtaposed to Murphy does, it shines a different light upon him.
But, you’re right, I’d like to know how he and Michael met, etc. A little background. Maybe we’ll get it in another book. I loved that Charity does particularly like Harry. LOL!
2-Do you have any theories about the chaos in the spirit realm and why the ghosts are going crazy?
No, I hadn’t a clue when I read it the first time. It helped to read it the second time, as I really picked up more clues that JB gave out.
3-I'm thinking there will be one person at the end who is responsible for all the stuff that has happened in the first 2 books and the ghost chaos and it is the same person who called Harry on the phone. The question is who? Any ideas?
Ah! You are so clever. I didn’t get that the first time I listened to it. I didn’t see that there in a thread tightly woven between these books. Some people felt that Murphy should have told Harry that Kravos was dead, that that was a hole in the plot; however, I agree with the people who think that she was about to tell him when Harry found her and his “double” at her office. Plus, it was a “hush-hush” incident before then.
4-Do you think Lydia was a genuine person in need or was she acting? Did he made a mistake in giving her his talisman? I LOLed at” nipple erection on command”! The incident at the church makes me trust Lydia a bit more but still I don’t trust her completely!
I’m one of those people who always go 50/50 on a person, until a little ways into the story. So, the first time I read this book, I didn’t trust Lydia completely, and was partly concerned it was a set-up. Even after the church, but maybe I was 75/25 then. LOL!
5-Hmm a fairy godmother, that was a new way to see a fairy godmother. Did I get that right? They have a contract and Harry has to give his life to her? Does it mean she wants to kill him or want him to spend his life serving her?
Well, I can’t remember what chapter it came out that she wanted him as one of her faithful hounds. But, you are right, that is a very different twist on a fairy godmother. Or should I say “twisted.” She a bit bi-polar, in my book. We still need to know exactly the back-story of her and Harry’s mother.
6-Lea found him really fast, do you think the same person is responsible and somehow helped her to find him?
Hmm… that is a good question. Even after reading the book for the second time. She has some way to keep tabs on Harry, but I’m not exactly sure how she does it. Nor what she really wants with him, because she was really upset that he took poison mushrooms to evade her. More disappointed that him just not being one of her faithful hounds. I’m betting she wants some so far undisclosed magical ability of his.
7-Do you think he really loves Susan? I don’t think so. I get his reason for not being able to say it but I don’t think he really does!
Well, at the beginning of the book, I didn’t think so, but I do now. What he said about the ability of those three little words really broke me up, both the first and second time. Very eloquently said, and I believe, very true.
8- Will he end up taking Susan to the vampire gathering?
I was pretty sure he wouldn’t, because he knows how very dangerous they are. I’m so naïve, I didn’t even think of her crashing neither the party, nor the consequences of her doing so. BTW, that Bianca is one scary, evil bitch, right? I was surprised she had so much to do with Kravos’ resurrection.

Yes it is a much more entwined, convoluted plot that the first two books. See why I re-read it? LOL!

@ Lisa Kay
#1 . I like that he doesn't see himself as good but he's really a good person , it shows how he always wants to do the right thing.
Hopefully there will be some background info in the future books.
#3. when that cop gave him the book but didn't tell him what was going on I though that Kravos had escaped !
#6 how she found him so fast wasn't reveled even at the end . Did I miss that or Lea was working with Bianca ? Why was she all of a sudden so close to Bianca and vampires , and did we find out what was the gift Bianca gave her?
#7 . I could see at the end that he really loved her , he even asked her to marry him , poor Harry!
#8 . I was surprised too but Didn't she die?

Response to ShoSho...
#6 - No, we weren't told. I don't think she was "working-working" with Bianca. But, I've been wrong before. LOL! She could have given her the gift - whatever it was - to butter her up, so she didn't save Harry. However, Lea did intervene - in her own sneaky, indirect way - so, I'm thinking Bianca didn't realize how badly Lea want Harry.
#8 - I think we've learned no body is ever completely gone in this series. LOL!
