TEAM MAXON!!!! Aspen is so annoying! I mean, he told her to enter the competition!! What does he expect? And he's so possessive of her that he has to follow her to the palace and everything. I understand that Aspen was her first love, but really America? Aspen is bad for her. And I wish she would just make up her mind already! She keeps being indecisive and just doesn't focus on one person. She always jealous of Kriss, but maybe she should stop her secret meeting and make-out-sessions with Aspen and just focus on one person. If she really wants Maxon, which it sometimes seems like she does, then actually MAKE AN EFFORT!!!!!!!

I'm sorry but I dont think you guys were reading the same book I was. Because i clearly feel that this book was about transitioning America's and Aspen relationship from puppylovers to friends.I admit it is a slow transition, but again their relationship had an abrupt end with her going off to the selection they never really had a complete break.
Add to that her realization of her growing affection for Maxon and her struggle with accepting him and the crown.Aspen is the past Maxon and the welfare of this broken kingdom are her future.

-SELFLESS. Well, except for wanting America, but that's natural.
-Knows America VERY WELL, inside and out, so he understands her :)

at first i was all like MAXON! then i kinda went to aspen for a bit them jumped bak to maxon and im staying there :)
well even though maxon did some stupid stuff, so did america, so they kinda fit...lol but im still with maxon<3america all da time now!! ;)
Ok first let me say when i finished this book a few months ago I ended feeling like I didnt want either boy for America.Aspen felt like he was America's past and Maxon because he went anywhere near that scum Celeste, even though I think that was put in the book to show that Maxon is HUMAN. Not your perfect fairytale prince. AND i was disappointed in America for being SOO weepy and for her weak presentation.
I DONT DISLIKE ASPEN! I just dont think he and America are meant for eachother! He is a good guy, for pretty much all the reasons Annie listed above. But the last time Aspen and her meet in Elite you see that their views on life and their roles are changing. They are beginning to go in different directions as people generally do at an end of a relationship. Its only then that America finally decides to fight for Maxon.
While I'm not oppose to America joining the rebels I just feel that that story has already been written. I mean its ok if Cass wants to republish the Hunger Games, I liked that series the first time I read it, but IF I was an author I'd want to think up something original.
P.S. What does having known someone longer have to do with whether or not she should love Aspen or Maxon? Have you not heard of 'love at first sight'? Also,I'd be careful about suggesting only poor people can be down-to-earth and/or sweet. You could be offending a lot of people with that statement.

All of the rich people I've met are really snotty and spoiled. NOT that Maxon is that kind of guy and I'm not suggesting that I don't like MAxon, but I still like Aspen better. I get it all comes down to what kind of guy the READER likes. And plus, I'm not referring to RICH people in general, I'm ore referring to the KIND of person he is, you know caring for his family. In Maxon's case, which is REALLY horrible, his father beats him up if he talks back, but I mean, Aspen is a STRONG male character who takes care of his family. That's all I'm saying.

Yup. that's why it's kinda hard to support Aspen and come up with a decent list of reasons for my argument, because Cass wrote so much MAxon into this book. We didn't get enough Aspen moments.

You know all of the characters in the Elite got annoying at SOME point in the book. But I think the most annoying person byfar was AMERICA. Gosh, so many times I wanted to go in the book, slap her a few times (if I could reach that high) and scream: "CHOOSE! YOU'RE HURTING MAXON AND ASPEN WITH YOUR WAVERING AND CHEATING ON THEM BOTH!" but no, I had to continue reading the same lines over and over again:
He hurt me. Now I love Aspen.

Now repeat the lines above like 302 times and you got the book called the ELite.
Yikes. After writing all those replies. I find it very likely that Cass will has Maxon end up with America JUST BECAUSE her fans want it. Or she's tying to mix Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella and the Bachelor by which I don't love. What attracted me to this trilogy in the first place????????????????? I think it was the cover.

I like Aspen, I just don't think he's for America. Putting fire with fire just makes the blaze larger, but fire and water (America and Maxon) equal each other out.

There really isn't a bad boy in this love triangle at all,Aspen is just more of the unlikely candidate.

True, that was another thing that disappointed me in this book. The guys share a lot of the same qualities so it's hard to like one over the other..... ALTHOUGH, I do consider Aspen the sort-of-bad boy if you compare him to Maxon. I'm just going to pick a guy, so TEAM ASPEN!

I think it's more like fire and wood. I feel like Maxon's gonna get burned to death by America's foul temper. I think this is one of the first books that I've read where I absolutely have no tolerance for the protagonist. But I'm probaby going to end up reading the one anyway so................

Ummm, from my POV when I look at your fire and water representation of America and Maxon, instead balancing each other out, water would douse (or douce, I'm not sure but that's when you put a lot of water on stuff)fire, meaning after that made America special would be put out by maxon. And technically when fire is put it with fire, nothing is affted, the only thing that affects the blaze larger, is the amount that is burning and the amount of oxygen just saying... :)
