Thoughts after "The Elite": Team Maxon or Team Aspen?

Well no. You're lessening the fact that Maxon's dad regularly abuses him just because he has a medical staff that helps him deal with it. It's not okay just because someone is there to treat him after.
Aspen has sacrificed loads for America, yeah. But so has Maxon.

Okay, yes I see your point, but look at it this way. Maxon has only sacrificed for America, as long as he known her. Which would be a couple of months. So that couple of mouths that his farther has beaten him for what America has done, that would be sacrificing.
But Aspen has known America for virtually their whole lives and when you add it up. Personally I feel like Aspen has sacrificed more.
What exactly did aspen sacrifice for her... ??... What do u even know about the couple... They are always making out anyway.. no conversation no nothing... He reminds me of adam from shatter me... I hate adam...

I get that. I think in this thread (or the other Maxon vs. Aspen one from book one) I said that I couple appreciate Aspen, because nobody can deny everything that he's done for America. It took me a long time (almost the whole year!) to understand that Aspen chose to do what he did because he couldn't possibly allow America to live his life, because he loves her that much and knows that she deserves better.
Yeah, Aspen has sacrificed so much for America. I won't take that away from him. My problem with Aspen stems in his thoughtlessness while they're at the castle. Kissing her and sneaking around which is illegal as long as she's in the Selection. Risking both of their lives after what happened to Marlee.
I try to understand Aspen, but it's hard for me. Because if was sure of her feelings for him he would wait until America is out of the competition and then they could live whatever life they chose to. But he initiated these secret romantic meetings (which will no doubt be revealed in book 3).
Off topic, since someone mentioned Adam; is Shatter Me a good read? I've been pretty hesitant to start the series because the ratings have been all over the place lol
Nothing he did nothing... Other than their secret meetings that were dangerous for her... When she asked him if she wouldmake a good princess he said no you wouldn't ... Way to give ur girl sone self esteem. .. he could have said that she would exel at anything she does but he loves her and wants her and asks her not to be a princess... But noooo. .... Plus he said that maxon was an actor and bad... I mean. .. why!!!! And america believed him like maxon wasn't all good to her.. and waiting for her and loving her. .. aaahhhhhh I hate heroines some times...

America, not to insult her, isn't exactly one of those people who can survive on her own. She's those people who need moral support and Aspen she felt was the best person to do so and she loved him for that. Aspen on the other hand was better then that, he thought a bit of through knowing this was a bad idea, and even before America was chosen to be in the Selection he would get in trouble for doing so. But Aspen doing what America wanted he stuck out for her even at the cost of his own family.
Also he snuck around with America past curfew, which I would think would land a punishment on Aspen's family, no food for a week, more hours of labor? But he did it because America didn't want to be yelled by her mom and she didn't want to be shunned on so he did all this for her sake. He also had to swallow his pride for her when everything he wanted to do was take care of her. And he had to do so much to survive and if he hadn't done all the pain stacking work he wouldn't have food for his family or him and if he were never to eat he would die of malnutrition or infection from punishments at work for not working up to grade and would not be there for America who needed him. So I would say he gave a ton to be with America.
And Stephanie, I hope it doesn't seem like I'm attacking you! I'm just trying to understand lol

Agreed really good book, sort of like Rouge from X-men, is what the main girl reminds me of, but without taking the person's powers

Ha, Warner has quite a following on Tumblr and I'm really intrigued about his character. Yeah, I'll probably start it closer to the release of book 3. Waiting for The One is enough lol.

Yah I agreed, and that's what I'm kind of annoyed at. Cause I can actually see America and Maxon getting together, based on how Maxon was written into the book. IDK Keria Cass was a tid bit one sided I feel on this making it hard to defend Aspen, but still going strong cause I like the feel of his character

Besides,I don't NOT like Aspen, he cares too,otherwise it would n't be a 'love' triangle, but the presumption that needless to say America loves me,and not giving her breathing space and sneaking around with her,when she's obviously confused, DRASTICALLY made a nasty impact.Also they don't really talk much,or share pieces of them selves with each other, or anything really, it's all talked about, but you don't feel it with them.i think it's a case of 'forbidden romance' it's not like you can feel America genuinely happy to be with him,she just stuck onto the past,and scared out of her mind when their together, I lost some respect for him,cause of that.also the fact that he tried to black-wash her mind about Maxon,which is just wrong.

If u see my status updates while reading the selection.. I thought aspen was cute at first.. but then he took the money from her... And he ate the food and then objected(now I know he is hungry) but at the time it seemed like he is taking advantage of her... So then I stpped liking hI'm and I sought maxon.. ho. Was cute charmung.. funny in a classy way... And so beautiful I loveeedddd him... I know that things were cleared about aspen's supposed affair in the elite.. so then i read the book objectively giving my self the chance to love any of the 2 guys.. but aspen's secret dates with america in the palace and him being all judgy about maxon and the fact that he wasn't supportive... All rhat played a role in me choosing maxon.. but when I saw that maxon had an edge that sealed the deal and I declared my love for. Him... Plus he reminds me of warner. :p he talks sweet things. .. :p. . So that is my argument.. u can check my the elite review... If u read it. . Aspen is a little right,Maxon does put on a put-together facade, but with America, even when they were just friends,he was always genuine with her, he open up to her, because he is messed up, he's been hurt and spurned, but with America he was n't fake. So don't tell her it's fiction,it was pure and the most real they 've ever been with each other.
PRESUMPTIONS: tsk tsk Aspen, so you know she cares about Max, then why are n't you giving her breathing space,she's muddled and confused, and your just selfishly mindless of her condition sneaking around AND playing dirty(not like your best buds with Max,to share your little revilation-don't know where you got that opinion from, considering Max is nice and caring to most)

This is not an excuse,just an explanation.yes Maxon did fool around with celeste-though I strongly doubt they went all the way,Mr king-the douche bag,spurns half-truths- it was wrong, but AMERICA made no promises, he had mind-crushing pressure from the country,the rebels,a SOB of a father-who conveniently happens to be king, and going through the adolescence at its finest-broken hearts,broken bones in plenty. So yes, he made a testosterone fuelled choice,cause for once it blocked out everything, you 've read this story before,boy-tries to forget girl,sensory over load-indulge in escapism. As for kriss she likes him, no complications, so yeah, he wants to get to know her. Basically, America did the same thing as him,when she's upset with Maxon, she runs to safety blanket Aspen. Way to toy around guys, so ultimately it comes down to....

THE HEART. really,Maxon and America have all these...,moments.Good and Bad, but one thing 's constant.PASSION. Wether it's just the two of them talking,or if they 're just with one another,you feel this peace ,wholeness. When they make mistakes,and sneak around with others,you FEEL..wrong,unsettled,slow sour taste burning through,like you just want to chuck them both with a piano. At their lows you can experience their turmoil,at their highs you happy dance like a moron. At each time,they give each other a small piece of them,you feel touched,and there's this low hum,beneath your skin,traveling all the way to your soul. It's annoying,cause,amidst all the confusion,a real love abides,but they just can't see it yet.but I think America is getting a clue.

Because as much as I know America <3 Maxon, and I get that's a important part of their story,I am SICK of the whirl-wind, so I really want some action, a lot more suspense(not related to the L-Triangle) and some AMERICA-MAX WORKING TOGETHER, and a clean finish.i mean after the epoch shaolin food-fight of a explosion.But please,let America stick to her little epiphany cause otherwise I might just get a hemmorage. The One to redeem The elite out of the rut.
Yeah a big reason why I didn't enjoy The Elite much was because I felt like America went through the whole book to make the same decision that she did at the end of The Selection, only now Maxon doesn't trust her and the King hates her.

Team Maxon, Clearly Aspen blew his chance by breaking up with her the way he did, and clearly he needs to move on his sudden appearences during the book really did upset me because the more he came around the more he'd screw with her head and the angrier i'd get. Aspen is cool, sweet nice...etc but he should move on its like getting the one in a million chance and passing up because you feel like youre not 'good' enough yet or you dont deserve it yet, Aspen thinks just because he's a two he can waltz right back into her life and expect a welcome commitee and mariachi band and nice refreshments? Heck no! im glad she got him straight at the end

Aspen and America are cute together but, America cannot do what Aspen does. She's strong but not in Aspen's way. America can handle emotional strife but, struggling with Aspen would just destroy their relationship, and her. I hate to compare them but, She's no Katniss.

I think both have equally Maxon more so because he allows himself to be him self with her. Maxon is in the public eye all the time he can't be himself and the stuff with his father prince or no prince no one should be caned.
I'm still rooting for Team Maxon. Yes, both Maxon and Aspen did some stupid things in The Elite but so did America. The Elite is the book that showed the occasional lovers spat and how relationships are not always perfect. If two people are really meant to be then they will find a way to work it out; which is what America and Maxon did in the end of the book. Maxon showed how he would do anything for America, he even stood up to his father for her. Aspen is still in the background, sneaking illegal kisses in the middle of the night. I'm all for Team Maxon. I think in The One, America will finally realize who she is meant to be. I liked how at the end of The Elite she told Aspen to leave her alone when her heart was broken and how she told her maids she was serious about getting Maxon.

I don't care, I just want America to MAKE UP HER MIND ALREADY! Seriously?? She keeps stringing these poor guys along. Besides both of them are pretty stupid. Maxon is fooling around and I don't really know what happened to Aspen during this book.
I finished The Selection being torn between Aspen and Maxon, but now that I finished the elite I can sincerely declare myself a part of TEAM ASPEN.It's unusual being on the less popular side, my choices usually agree with everyone else's. But I'm going to make my case, even if all the Maxon shippers decide to torch me.
First off, I think most of you are much too harsh on Aspen. You act like he cheated on her and then wanted her back. That's not the case at all. He left her for her WELL BEING and although it was a stupid move, it was extremely unselfish. To let go of someone you love for their own good, that takes courage and a large amount of affection.
I though Maxon was very sweet in the first book, but he kind of irked me in the second. I don't care how many times he says he tried to stop Marlee and Carter from being caned, I will never truly forgive him for that. He sat there and didn't utter a word, I believe that was cowardly of him. If Maxon is supposed to be king in the future, he needs to grow a backbone and stand up to his father. Another point on that, he accepted the fact that his father would make America go. If he truly loved her, he wouldn't have left that decision up to his dad. It would have been completely swoon worthy if Maxon would have declared his love for her on the spot or something of that caliber. Another point is this fling he's carrying with Kriss and Celeste. Let's get one thing straight: America loved/loves Aspen, he's not some guy that came out of nowhere and decided to seduce her. But with Maxon, why is he fooling around with Celeste since his next best option is Kriss? And confirming that Celeste would be his third choice is really stupid, only shows he'd want someone like his father rather than Natalie or Elise.
However this does not mean I'm fine with Aspen and America sneaking around. I believe this is really going to bite them in the ass, especially after the king's warning about having "eyes" all over.
Aspen (: while many of you believe he's being an idiot sneaking into Mer's room, I have to say I completely agree. He's a total idiot. But at the same time it shows he's so devoted to her he's willing to risk being caught. You have to keep in mind that aspen doesn't get to fight for the Lady America like Maxon does. Aspen has to get a chance as well, and I bet it's hard watching the person you love hanging around in someone else's arms. The only complaint with aspen is I wished he would dropped Kriss and ran straight to America when the Northern rebels attacked.
I agree with the fact that book 2 ended exactly like book 1. I had such high expectations for America and I hold her responsible for many events in the books. I just wish she'd stop playing with both of these guys' hearts. If she chooses Maxon, then Kriss and aspen end up broken hearted. If she chooses Aspen, the Maxon feels crushed. Decisions, decisions.
One last thing: was I the only one that though America was going to join the Northern rebels or at least get captured?

Maxon is trying to fight his father the only way he can. I agree with some of the comments you made for aspen I do not hate him. HOWEVER I still believe that it is his ego he cares more for. True he gave america up for a better life but you even see in the first book how he reacted to her making him a feast and "I'm a man I'm supposed to be the provider" this is set 300 years in the future? that way of thinking is archaic. I believe that America loves both men. But I hope she stays true to at least one guy in the next book.
Maxoooon. I hated it, trust me, but it was nice to see that America not get what she wanted. For a long time she had both Aspen and Maxon's attention, but she was kinda neglecting Maxon, just a tad. I think (AND HOPE) that Maxon and America are together in the end though.AMERICA AND MAXONNNNN (please Kiera Cass!)

Maxon all the way! I'm gonna be pissed when America ended up with Aspen. Not that I hate Aspen but he just doesn't work for me. But I'm also pissed at America when she's being indecisive. Seriously? Why are you so indecisive? If she keeps doing that she'll lose Maxon. And I'd hate that :|
Stephanie-I am coming into the Aspen range. I am so stuck, though, I think I just need Kiera to decide for me.

Fabuolus thinking. I agree- Kiera Cass may just have changed her mind to thinking about America and Maxon. I think your thoughts fit in well with the interview.
My opinion swayed a bit 3/4 in The Elite, however, I still think I'm team Maxon

I am TEAM ASPEN all the way !!! he really cares about her, i dont hate or dislike maxton he is really sweet and stuff but he is ,how can i say that, toooooo good and kinda boring ... and why must the prince get always what he wants i dont get it ! aspen is such a sweethaert and left her only because he wanted her happy ! so it would be a diffrent and unexpected ending if aspen and america get together because their story is waaaay more dramatic than maxton and hers is !!!!!
