Jane Eyre
question
What to read next

Which should I read next?
Dracula (Bram Stoker)
The Phantom of the Opera (Gaston Leroux)
Jane Eyre (Charlotte Bronte)
Also what is your favorite, why? I am currently reading Wuthering Heights, loving it! Anyone else need a recommendation?

Definitely Jane Eyre, and if you like that, Villette (also by Charlotte Bronte).
Done with Dracula and Jane Eyre. I'm also searching for the Phantom book. I love classics!
I'll echo the others on here, and throw in my own recommendation for "Jane Eyre". I've read "Dracula", and it was definitely very interesting, however, as Brenda said, "Jane Eyre" is definitely more accessible to the modern reader. Also, it has everything: romance, suspense, mystery, beautiful descriptions, wonderful characterisation, coming-of-age, and much more. I have read it several times, and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in literature. Go for it!
(Incidentally, I have also read "Wuthering Heights", and enjoyed it immensely. It is slighly darker than "Jane Eyre", although both novels have a touch of the gothic in them.)

I also reccomend Jane Eyre it is easier reading than Wuthering Heights and has a happier ending
Does anyone remember the name of a book )sorta like Jane Eyre or Sense and Sensibility) The heroine starts out poor with no place to go and takes a stage coach to travel to her relatives but on the way she is kidnapped by a dwarf miner who has also kidnapped many, many children to work in the mines for him.In the end she opens a school for the orphans with her sister. I have been searching for this for ages but seem to get nowhere. Please email me if you know it's title. marlene
You will find both PHANTOM and DRACULA rather dated in prose style. JANE EYRE is far the most accessible of the three to the modern reader, since it has a clear 'voice'. Also it is not written in an epistolatory style, which is distancing for the reader.
Also, your image of PHANTOM and DRACULA is very probably distorted by movies, Broadway musicals, etc. You will find that the creators of the movies and so forth put a whole bunch of creativity into their work, which is not to be found on the pages of the novels. In other words, the books are nothing so cool as seeing it on stage; go to the printed work and hope for something as thrilling as a movie and you will be disappointed.

Dracula (Bram Stoker).
I don't like Jane Eyre or any Bronte book. Too girly.
