DHASG May Reading Challenge

Introduction: The fifth month of the year is May! It's time to put those cold weather clothes away for good, at least until late September. The flowers are growing, and everything is new and fresh and green! Let’s celebrate May with a new monthly reading challenge on the Dangerous Hero Addict Support Group.

Instructions:

1. Books must be read between May 1st and May 31st of the month.
2. Please post on this thread that you are signing up and update your stats as you finish. Let the moderator know when you are completed in your final post.
3. A book can only be used once in the challenge.
4. Books of any genre can be used for the challenge, unless a particular part of the challenge states otherwise.
5. Best of all, enjoy the month of May and all the good books you get to read this month!

Levels
1. Spring Fling: Read 8-10 books
2. A Full Bouquet: Read 5-7 books
3. Breath of Spring: Read 3-4 books

1. May Day! The first day of the month started out as a pagan holiday celebrating the fertility of spring. Read a book where one of the characters is pregnant or has a baby or a book that represents the concept of fertility and new growth.
2. Cinco de Mayo—May 5th is a day to celebrate Mexican heritage, originally the day on which the Mexican Army defeated French forces at Puebla. Read a book set in Mexico, or a book which has a character of Mexican heritage, or a book that has five letters in its title or five words in the title.
3. Nursed Back to Health—Since May 12th is International Nurse's Day, read a book about a character who is in the nursing profession, or read a book in which a character is sick or injured and gets nursed back to health.
4. Lily of the Valley: The birth flower for May is the Lily of the Valley. It represents tears in Christian symbolism as well as life in pagan belief systems. It's popular for weddings, and is a name for females. Read a book that represents the lily of the valley in some way, such as a tear-jerker (makes you cry), a story where a wedding takes place, or some other way that fits in your mind with lilies of the valley.
5. Four Feet Off the Ground—The Kentucky Derby is the first Saturday of May, a world-famous horse race. Read a book about horses or one that features horses as a big or small plot point. Maybe even horse(s) on the cover...
6. Mother May I?—Mother's Day is the second Sunday of May. Read a book that celebrates or features motherhood in any way. The heroine can be the mother or the main character can have a relationship with their mother or a motherly figure.
7. Memorial Day-In the United States we observe the last Monday of May as the day to commemorate people who died serving the US Armed Forces. Read a book with a character who has been in the military or is currently in the military.
8. Green Eyes—The birthstone for May is emerald. It represents love and success. Read a book with a character with green eyes or has a cover with green as a prominent color. You could also read a book about love (ie romance novel) or about a character who is successful in some way.
9. A Sound Mind For All: May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Read a book with a character who struggles with mental illness or deals with a relative/loved one who has a mental illness.
10. Pick Your Holiday: You can choose to read a book to represent one of the five below holidays celebrated in May: Children's Day, Jewish Heritage Month, South Asian Heritage Day, Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Towel Day (in honor of Douglas Adams The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy).

The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie might be good, although Ian has what Jennifer Ashley calls Aspergers Syndrome. Back then, he would have been considered 'mad.'
