Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea
question
Do you think Captian Nemo was creepy?

So, I guess in some parts he is but I don't think he's that creeping, but people always say he's so creeping. Anyway, this is totally one of my favorite books!!

I think that "creepy" does accurately describe Captain Nemo, but because he has so many other traits, to just leave it at that would be grossly unfair. He is such a beautiful, frightening, and complex character with terrible darkness as well as glorious intelligence and vision that I couldn't help but fall in love...and I love him still, even as we now see what he truly is, and that includes "creepy".
Nope! I admire a man who holds fast to his principles!
And he certain-n-n-n-n-ly ..uhhDID!
I love how in the movie, (cast with none better than James Mason) he replies to Arronax, thusly: "For good to prevail it must be constant.."
The scientist was quibbling with him about his ethics; and trying to remind him that while the nations of Europe are frequently at war with each other, they also produce many good, progressive things as well.

I think that he might not be "creepy", but he is certainly rather controlling. If you think about it everything in his life is controlled by him - he lives in a submarine (which makes for a very controlled environment), and everyone he provides access to is under his watch, and rules. That in a way could be considered creepy.
I don't think he's creepy. If you want a creepy Jules Verne main character read Journey to the Center of the Earth. I forgot his name (I think it's John) creeps me out.
Peepin' and he's creepin' and he's creep-in'.
I don't know about "creepy"; bitter is the way book!Nemo comes across.
Certainly creepy.
In the way that all visionary, half-mad geniuses are. Nemo is creepy like a Bond villain. He reminds me of Dr. No, actually. His ethics are somewhat questionable, and his actions too.
For a character in a fiction, his complexity is an asset to the book.
