I'll keep watching though.

Hi Rinda!
I'm up to ep 7 now. This isn't a series I would rec because of phenomenal acting. It is watchable. A friend of mine said she probably watched it because all the episodes were available at once - if you had to wait each week for a new one, you would lose interest. I agree.
I look forward to comparing thoughts once I'm done.

Oh, I am looking forward to comparing notes. There's some mock-worthy stuff going on. :) I do happen to enjoy craptacular movies/shows - I watch them and pretend I'm on MST3K.

After watching the show I have to say I probably won't be picking up the book. If you give it a try, I'd love to hear how it compares.

For me, UF is the home for the strong female character. Even in a lot of the male-lead UF, most of the time (at least in the ones I read) we also have very strong female characters.
In HG - not so much. There are really 2 female characters that I wish we got to see more of because I think they might have some depth (and also maybe because I find the actors portraying them to be a bit better than the others). Unfortunately, both are crammed into the roles of the virgin (Letha) and the whore (Destiny).
The more I think about this, the more it irks me. There are these tiny moments where you see that they have a ton to offer, some real power, but they aren't let out of the box very often.
The other female characters - you have 2 mothers, very different, but I'm not sure (and we've already discussed Famke's atrocious accent). Shelly, the misfit sister, who could be interesting too, but we'll see where that goes, and the very wooden wannabe novelist who is very annoying (when you are rooting for a character to be the next victim so you don't have to watch them anymore, that is not good). We also have the Dr who comes into town knowing a lot about werewolves. She is closer to our standard UF heroine, actually, but I'm still on the fence because I'm not sure I trust the show with it's eventual depiction of a character that would usually be one of my favs.

That's how i did it, I started watching and just couldn't stop. Enjoy!

Beautifully shot, though. Hemlock could be a winner.

:)
I may give it another try. I worry that they might have run out of plot, though? A few of those reveals were indeed strange (almost like they kind of slapped it on to tie up loose ends by the end of the season). Might serve them to work on some of the lore and build from there.

It is not perfect at all, but was entertaining enough that I'll keep watching.
Lots of WTH, Famke's accent is weird, and the transformation was gross, but pretty good.
