It sounds intriguing Kim...the cover is gorgeous!

Marianne, put it up and comment here saying that you read it & attach a review if you wish (it doesn't go anywhere else)
Re the stars: you can find the tips here on how to put the stars next to the title of the book

didn't like this as much as this author's other translated book The Last of the Vostyachs but still a good read.
Now on to The Alchemist - 10th Anniversary Edition ....eventually

I have just started reading One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn for this challenge.

I'm glad you picked something Russian

Thanks - now this one just went into my top-among-to-reads shelf. I loved Beloved Friend: The Story of Tchaikowsky and Nadejda Von Meck by Catherine Drinker Bowen.
It is a reconstruction of the life of the Russian legendary musician Peter Ilyich Tchaikowsky and his patron and confidante Nadejda von Meck from their letters to each other and Tchaikowsky's letters to his brothers. These letters were willed by Madame von Meck to her favorite grandson Vladimir and his wife Barbara von Meck associated with Catherine Drinker Bowen to publish this. It is a very moving tragedy and invariably reminds me of Dostoevsky.
I'd love to put up more spoilers in order to seduce someone to read it, but it will take away some joy from reading the book if you already anticipate the nature of the tragedy. In case you want a little bit of spoilers, would you mind looking at my review?

I'm glad you have added the book to your to-reads Lit Bug:) Your review and words are brilliant! Thanks for that...

You don't need to worry about that Lit Bug!!

Brenda I'm sorry I'm not tech savvy enough to figure out how to send it to you, but do not for a minute feel like you're missing out. It's not even worth the time I took to read it :(
Definitely not worthy of the trilogies name!

Thanks Christy, but after you saying that, I won't bother. I have lots of others to read:) Thanks anyway:)

I'm in a similar situation. I chose The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami because I enjoyed 1Q84 so very much. Sadly this book is nowhere near as good and I am just rushing through trying to finish it now! Sad.

It took me A LONG time to finally realize that it's just ok to not finish a book. Like Brenda said, there are too many good ones out there to waste time on something you don't like. I was lucky, mine was only a short story and I still feel ripped off!

Oh I can leave a book unfinished when I want to! I'm the person who has started A Game of Thrones TWICE and thrown it against the wall twice as well!(How is it I hate it so much when it is in one of my favourite genres and everyone else in the world loves it?) However The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle is a challenge and it is not so bad. Just not that good:)

Well I finished it. I would not recommend it to anyone else though.

Well done Elaine...I had heard it wasn't that good.

Andrea, I read that book and I must say I felt a bit like you wih the first bit of it. I kept thinking I'm not intellectual enough for this book!!! Then I kept reading and thoroughly enjoyed it and the movie I felt was very true to the book. I'm glad you enjoyed it too.
