Jalyn (jalynnie) | 3827 comments Clue Challenge
May is Mystery Month :)

description

Who killed Mr. Bookworm?

This challenge will work like the game clue. Each book has to have one Character/Cover, one Weapon/Creature and one Room/Genre to qualify. This challenge will start on May 1st and last for the whole month (I'm posting it early so you guys have some time to figure out what books you want to read that will work for the challenge).

Characters/Covers
Colonel Mustard - Yellow cover
Miss Peacock - Blue cover
Miss Scarlet - Red cover
Mr. Green - Green cover
Mrs. White - White cover
Professor Plum - Purple cover

Weapons/Creatures
Candlestick - Witch/Wizards
Knife - Human
Lead Pipe - Vampire/Fairies
Revolver - Werewolves/Shifters
Rope - Angels/Demons
Wrench - Other (Zombies, Ghosts, etc)

Rooms/Genres
Hall - Horror
Lounge - Dystopian
Dining Room - Romance
Kitchen - Contemporary
Ballroom - Fantasy
Conservatory - Sci-Fi
Billiard Room - Paranormal
Library - Fiction
Study - YA

How to format your books:
Sweet Evil (The Sweet Trilogy, #1) by Wendy Higgins
Miss Scarlet (red cover)
with the Rope (angels/demons)
in the Billiard Room (paranormal)
Review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
Buddy: Yes http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

***All books have to have one Character/Cover color, one Weapon/Creature and one Room/Genre to qualify.***

Qualifying covers
All covers have to be 60% or more of that color
OR
The color you want to use has to be the only color on the cover (besides like black or white). For instance, I would accept Eclipse (Twilight, #3) by Stephenie Meyer as a red book even though it's not 60% because the main focus of the book is the red ribbon.

Sign ups and questions are in this thread.

At the end of the challenge I'll find each Character/Cover, Weapon/Creature, Room/Genre to see "who did it" (through random.org). If only one person reads a book with the correct C/C, W/C and R/G then they will win. If more than one person reads the correct type of book then I'll narrow them down through random.org too. There will also be one random winner.

POST YOUR BOOKS ON THIS THREAD
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

This thread is for signing up and asking any questions. Please don't post your books on this thread.

message 3: by Tati (new)

Tati I'm in, and I have a question.

How much of the cover has to be a certain color to qualify?

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

Definitely doing this! I love Clue!!!!!

Jalyn (jalynnie) | 3827 comments The books have to be more than 60% of the color you want to use. If anyone has questions on a cover just post it on here :)

EDIT: I changed the rules a bit to include books with the main focus of the book being one color. Check rules above :)

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

Would Matched count as a blue cover? Not sure...

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Oops sorry Crossed, the second book!

message 9: by Jalyn (new)

Jalyn (jalynnie) | 3827 comments Crossed (Matched, #2) by Ally Condie I'm going to say yes to this even though it's not 60%. The blue pops out and since it's also the only color on the cover, I'll ok it.

message 10: by Jalyn (last edited Apr 19, 2013 04:08PM) (new)

Jalyn (jalynnie) | 3827 comments I just amended the rules on the color of the covers to include books like Crossed :)

It is so difficult finding book covers that are all one colour! Most of mine are such a mix there isn't one major colour. I'm doomed.

Greta (goodreadsgreta) | 4545 comments Sarah wrote: "Oh, think I might have found a yellow one! Looks like I've got one so I might as well join in!"

it only has to be 60% a certain color :)

message 26: by Jalyn (new)

Jalyn (jalynnie) | 3827 comments The covers can also have one color as the main focus. So something like Starters (Starters and Enders, #1) by Lissa Price 1984 by George Orwell Evermore (The Immortals, #1) by Alyson Noel Cinder (Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer Need (Need, #1) by Carrie Jones would still count because the focus of the covers are that particular cover. Does that make sense? If you guys have any questions about a book you'd like to use, just post it on here and I'll let you know if it works :)

Exactly :) I wish everyone would realize that with almost all of our challenges we do at least one randomly picked winner, so even participating with one book you can still win.

I'm not sure with the part of the weapon/creatures, but does that pertain to the cover being a creature like the demons, shifters, etc? or just the heroine/protagonist himself? I'm not sure if you know what I mean, I can't explain it clearly. So Cinder is still accepted even though it's just her foot on the cover, and not a face?

message 34: by Tati (new)

Tati I don't think the creature has to be on the cover, but the story must be about them. Or it can be about regular humans as well.

yes, it refers to the protagonist of the story :)

Nope. The only thing you have to worry about when it comes to the cover is the color. The weapons/creatures have to be what the book is about :)

Mei (meijey) | 3810 comments Shrishti~Music~Psyche wrote: "I do NOT understand this."

Well, put simply, you have to read a book that 60% of the cover's color should be any of the colors stated above, and the characters are either zombies/fairies, etc. (as mentioned), regular humans will do, too. When you post your books you have to follow the format just like in the example.

message 45: by Jalyn (last edited May 02, 2013 12:26PM) (new)

Jalyn (jalynnie) | 3827 comments Shrishti~Music~Psyche wrote: "I do NOT understand this."

You have to find one book that qualifies in all 3 categories. The hardest part will be finding a book that qualifies as one of the colors. Once you find a book with a cover that qualifies, the rest is easy to do since you just have to say what kind of "creature" the book is about and what genre the book is. So for example, let's say that I read
Need (Need, #1) by Carrie Jones
I could choose either white or yellow for the cover color, but let's say that I choose YELLOW.
Because the book is about both fairies and shifters I could choose either, but let's say that I choose FAIRIES.
This book would count as either Paranormal, YA or Fiction, but let's say that I choose to use PARANORMAL.

Now, after I read the book I would get on the thread for posting the finished books (the link is up top with the instructions) and I would post this:
Need (Need, #1) by Carrie Jones
Colonel Mustard (yellow cover)
with the Lead Pipe (fairies)
in the Billiard Room (paranormal)
Review: Link
Buddy: No

Did that help?

Fifteenth Summer by Michelle Dalton
Would this count as yellow? or is it too multi-coloured? I'm guessing it's too diffuse to count.

Scent of Magic (Healer, #2) by Maria V. Snyder and would this count as blue?

message 47: by Jalyn (new)

Jalyn (jalynnie) | 3827 comments I'll have to say no to the Fifteenth Summer, but Scent of Magic is fine.

message 48: by Mishma (new)

Mishma What colour does this count as?
Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth

I'd say that's more of a pink, but you can use the original cover and use the color as yellow because the fire is the main focus of the cover. Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth

message 50: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) That also means the cover to Grave Mercy counts as red because the dress is the main color, right?

Grave Mercy (His Fair Assassin, #1) by Robin LaFevers
