Jason (darkfiction) | 3233 comments In honor of James Herbert's awesome career, this May we've decided to have a group read, and therefore a vote, of James's writings.

I have picked six his most popular and well-known works in hopes that nobody has trouble getting a copy for the group read.

You can vote here:

I've only read one Herbert and haven't read any listed. Looking forward to reading any of them.

Jason (darkfiction) | 3233 comments I've only read one Herbert, too. And I hated it. lol It was Once..., and I couldn't help but feel that it was like a soft porno with fairies. I hope that his more classic works are better, though I'm certain that they are.

Char | 17469 comments I just read Haunted (good) and The Rats (very good, old school fun!). I haven't read Once, so thanks for the heads up, Jason.

Jason, Once was a one off for Herbert.
All the other choices you have up are excellent.

His serial killer book, Moon, and post apocalyptic/alternative history book, '48, are also fun reads.

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I'm almost finished with rats. It is old school good, but there's not too much to it, it seems. Just scenarios of people getting attacked by rats.

L.A. Taylor (mrwriterman) | 15 comments Hi, guys, I'm also a horror author who likes to write stories like James did - 'The fog' for me was a very graphic, cool horror story. Nothing like the movie that came out with Jamie Lee Curtis, but I thought it was good.

I voted, too. I've read a couple by him, but would be happy with any of the selections. :) It's always a different experience when you have others to discuss it with.

Jessica | 82 comments Jason - I bought Once the other day in a charity shop for £1 or less, maybe I shouldn't have? Soft porno with fairies doesn't sound like my cup of tea!

I've only ever read one Herbert - The Rats - and I didn't rate it very highly. Like you say Tressa, not much happens in terms of story and I didn't like the main guy. I have Others waiting to be read on my Kindle though.

Jessica, The Rats story evolves in the later books, Lair and Domain.

Then again, so do the rats....

Mike Faulkner (thisdyingbreed) | 12 comments So, anyone else started on The Fog? I'm finding it a surprisingly quick read. Halfway through after today , and that was just with commuting and waiting for my college course to start in the morning.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

I started it today too. Almost 25% read.

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 964 comments I bought a pb copy of Moon today at the library.

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 964 comments I just noticed its not on the list. Sorry. I don't own any others.

You should read it, anyway.

It's excellent.

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 964 comments Thanks, Jon. I read The Dark years ago. Very good.

Have two others to finish up. Will probably start this one by the weekend.

The Survivor is my favorite James Herbert book. It's simply terrifying. I highly recommend it.

Mike Faulkner (thisdyingbreed) | 12 comments I was engrossed and just finished it. Plus I had ninety minutes of waiting at college today and two hours of commuting.
