Serial book listing

In a group discussion in one of my groups the issue of how serialized books are represented on Goodreads came up. The consternation is these books being listed without a disclosure that it is not a complete work.

I looked in the library manual and didn't find a specific process. I did a search and found this discussion; http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

However, I am really not certain what the policy and correct process is.
1. Is a serialized book allowed to be listed as a book only with a prospective completion publication date?
2. Is this different (and why) for e books?
3. Is there a proper way for us as librarians to indicate the "part" Published is part __ of __ belonging to X book?

In process serials do not belong on Goodreads unless the individual parts are being published (as individual Kindle editions, ebooks, or print editions). An online serial that is in process and its parts are not being individually published (posts on a blog, a web site that gets updated, etc.) should not be added to Goodreads until after it has been completed.

If the individual parts are being individually published, they get linked like any series. The description of the series can state how many parts there are expected to be.

Thanks so much for your prompt reply Rivka. So an in process serial with individual parts published as, for example an e book, would each have their own ISBN numbers?
I take it that the onus is on the author to disclose that said on process e book serial is not complete? SW

Or ASIN, yes, in most cases.

One would certainly hope that at minimum the original source mentions the status of the work.
