Looking for Authors to Interview
Vinny, I an the author of over 30 publications. Most recently, I published my first children's book, Daddy Loves You: a story of enduring love during incarceration (Nov 2021) and have another manuscript with my illustrator. Daddy Loves You was created to address a gap in children's literature for developmentally appropriate treatment of the removal from the home by police and the young child's uncertaintly about this complex adult issue. My goal was to validate the experiences of children who have/have had an incarcerated parent (about one in every elementary school classroom in the US in 2021) and to develop understanding & empathy in peers. There is a discussion scaffold for teachers & families as well as links to three reliable resources. My current book addresses parental absence in a developmentally non-triggering way. There are currently nearly 24 million children living in single parent homes (about 34% of US young children). Again, my goal is to validate children's experiences, develop understanding & empathy in peers, and provide support and resources to teacher and families.
Both of these stories were drawn from 35 years as a teacher and teacher educator. I want the books to get into the hands of the caregivers and children who will benefit from them. These go out as free exposure to our newsletters and social media sites. Just something we do to help authors sell books. We also have them go out at random back out into social media over and over.
