May Buddy Read Discussion
Duration: 5/1/13 - 5/31/13

Instructions & Info:

Rules:

Use this thread to find your buddy and determine your book! You can always start by posting books, authors or genres you are interested in! When you decide who you buddy and your book you will head on over to the FINAL SIGN UP thread (see link at bottom) and tell me your book and buddy there (there will be instructions to follow) If you are without a partner by the end of sign up I will match the remaining people up, so no worries...EVERYONE will have a buddy:-)

1.If you want to participate post your name and maybe let people know what genre(s) you are interested in reading and or any books that you're interested in reading.

2.If you already know who you’d like to read with, go to the Final Sign UP thread and post your information for me!

3.Whoever doesn’t have a partner, we will place with another person and you guys can pick a book together! If we have an odd number we can have groups of three, more people to discuss with!

4.I will create Buddy Discussion Threads for each Buddy group and you will be able to start reading and discussing on February 1st!

5.The challenge will span a month.

6.For each group we can set up a thread so the two of you can discuss without having to sift through a bunch of other conversation. But please leave us updates as to how far along you guys are and how you’re liking the book!

7.You CAN sign up for more than one Buddy Read...in fact it's encouraged! And I'm giving a full month just for reading this time around so it will give you more time for more books!!!

ANY QUESTIONS JUST ASK!

Once you have a buddy, go to the May Final Sign Up and post your book and your buddy

Night Road is one of my 2011 favorite reads. I read True Colors a few months ago. Very in depth story. She is a really good writer

message 15: by Elishia (new)

Elishia Glad her others are good as well then. I'm wondering if i'll need tissues as well for that one because I did for Night Road.

ummm, yea. Tissues are standard for her. True Colors was really much more gritty than Night Road. It was more complex of a book. But yes, you will need tissues with this one, but know that her books end well---unlike Jodi Picoult

message 17: by Kacie (new)

Kacie (kaciern) I've read 2 others and yeah prolly bring the tissues. I love that it leaves me with a brighter outlook. And I agree about Jodi Picoult!

message 18: by Vi (new)

Vi | 624 comments Elishia - which would you prefer? I would be reading both of them anyway.. Maybe The Host (The Host, #1) by Stephenie Meyer since it's longer?

message 19: by Elishia (new)

Elishia Ok thanks I best prepare myself. I've never read Jodi Picoult I don't like sad endings.

Elishia wrote: "Ok thanks I best prepare myself. I've never read Jodi Picoult I don't like sad endings."

After trying four Jodi Picoult books, I have decided that she isn't for me. My old book club loved her and would always nominate her books.I don't know if I would say she has "sad endings", but there is always some big ethical/moral dilemma, like suicide or child molestation etc. The resolution always leaves me feeling unsettled. I guess I need to make peace with the fact that sometimes those kinds of issues don't end neatly or cleanly, but I never feel "settled" or with a sense of closure after her books. I am still pertubed and uneasy after her endings. I hope that makes sense, but my sense of justice is never appeased at her book endings.

That's okay Jenne! I found this Shadow Kin (The Half-Light City, #1) by M.J. Scott on your TBR pile. As luck would have it I bought this book.

Marla | 1036 comments @Kacie & Elishia - Can I read True Colors by Kristin Hannah with you? I haven't read a tear jerker in a while, I'm due.

@Vi - Let me know when you are ready to read Drums of Autumn (Outlander, #4) by Diana Gabaldon by Diana Galdbadon.

@Barbara & Vi - I'd love to read Tears of the Giraffe (No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency #2) by Alexander McCall Smith , so let me know if you want to read that next month.

message 41: by Elishia (last edited Apr 26, 2013 12:21PM) (new)

I'm sorry Marla but I don't have any plans to read that in the near future. Maybe Vi does. I just needed something set in Botswana for a challenge.

message 43: by Vi (new)

Vi | 624 comments Marla - I'm not sure when I'll get to Voyager (Outlander, #3) by Diana Gabaldon since I'm reading Memories of Ice (Malazan Book of the Fallen, #3) by Steven Erikson now with A Feast for Crows (A Song of Ice and Fire, #4) by George R.R. Martin coming up later. I'll let you know definitely :)

As for the Tears of the Giraffe (No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency #2) by Alexander McCall Smith , it depends if I like the first and plan to continue the series. Again, I'll let you know.

message 44: by Marla (new)

Marla | 1036 comments No hurry, Vi, they have both been on my to-read-next book list for months and months and it would be fun to read them with a buddy. PM me when you are ready or interested and we can sign up.

Elishia - thanks, I will let you know when I get the book!
