Sanne (sanneennas) | 24 comments I came across the book above, with the weird name. I was able to trace it to a NOOK book available on Barnes & Nobles (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/34727...)

But.... that doesn't clarify which book it is. Now what? Who's going to buy a book with that weird nonsense title? should it be kept in the GR database at all?

It's a valid book: it stays.

If/when more information is available, its title can be edited.

Sanne (sanneennas) | 24 comments ok, thanks for the quick response.

Jan | 849 comments Hi, googling the book's 'title' I came across this webpage as the first result:
http://www.gutenberg.org/files/34727/...
This page contains the full Ebook 'A Sketch of the Life and Labors of George Whitefield, by [rev.] John Charles Ryle.
This book - maybe not the same edition - appears on Goodreads too:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

I trust some one can do justice to the reverend ànd Couperus, please. Thanks, Jan

What exactly is your request?

lethe | 16368 comments There is no way of knowing which Couperus book it is. I do think it's Couperus, because the Nook EAN of The Hidden Force (De stille kracht) ends in 72450 (and this one in 72474).

I've used the report link on the nook page, hopefully their staff will take a look at their erroneous title and fix it.

lethe | 16368 comments Ah! I didn't know that was possible, good thinking!

It is for (some) Amazon (data), so I figured they might be keeping up with them. I just hope I managed to submit it as the pop-up window did not close itself.

Hi Ellie,
I suggest that Igraine has meant to add:
title: A Sketch of the Life and Labors of George Whitefield
author: John Charles Ryle.
I further suggest that you replace
'34727-h.htm' by 'A Sketch of the Life and Labors of George Whitefield'
and that you replace 'Louis Couperus' by 'John Charles Ryle'.
However, you might find it problematic that WorldCat doesn't know the isbn '2940012072474'.
Two things are for sure, in my opinion: no such book title as '34727-h.htm' exists, and therefore Couperus ought not be attributed to that. One other thing I'm pretty sure of: this 'ghost title', by the extension htm very much looks like (at least part of) a webpage. And the other url I hyperlinked in my message 4 proves it.
I admit, that 's all based on the assumption of the correctness of the number 34727 ...
You might be able to and want to check with Igraine; I can't, because 'Igraine's profile data is set to private.'
Hope I made myself sufficiently clear, this time. Jan

lethe | 16368 comments Hi Jan, I'm not sure where you get the name Igraine from? Both the Couperus book and the Ryle book you linked to in comment #4 were imported by bots, Barnes & Noble and Amazon, respectively.

ETA Oh I see, "Igraine added it". That means she added it to her shelves, and she did it long after the last changes to the record. (Plus she doesn't accept messages.)

Elizabeth (Alaska) Fixed the original publication date for A Sketch of the Life and Labors of George Whitefield and entered the original title.

Do a GR search for 34727-h.htm and you get 3 pages of results.

lethe | 16368 comments But only the first hit (by Couperus) has the exact number. That's a lot of orphaned books though.

ETA And nos. 2 and 3 are by Various, poor things.

That's what I was thinking. And when you search B&N, there is no new information. I searched, because though I know we can't use them, it might have given us a clue to search elsewhere or at least combine with the correct title.

It gets confusing when a thread linked to a specific book or author is also used for other books. I am closing this thread. Start new ones for other books.
