Have you seen that someone got an early copy and posted who she ends up with? Anyone planning on peeking?
I read about that last week. People were nuts on blogs & the author's FB page. People were really, really upset. I did peek to see who she ended up with but I didn't read any of it. I still plan to read it & want to see how she brings it all together. I feel bad for the author after all these years w/this series it is ending with such drama & negativity.

Yeah...it sucks that happened.... I am almost sure who she ends up with ( i have not peeked yet) and while I have not been happy with the last few books....it is scary how some readers are responding to CH about it....
I wonder if someone will bring it up at the big RT conference that is going on soon. I am sure it will be discussed in private, but I wonder about public.

I agree. This should never have been leaked. They should be shunned. The person who did this is why bloggers everywhere can't get ahold of certain last in the series ARCs. This kind of thing can leave an author with a sour taste in their mouths and potentially keep them from writing more. It's just not right. FYI I have not peeked.
Lisarenee wrote: "The person who did this is why bloggers everywhere can't get ahold of certain last in the series ARCs."I have a feeling that that will be the long reaching effect of this episode, publishers and authors will probably see to it. I wouldn't be surprised if more authors even put that in their contract clause for series enders.
I was actually really surprised that she did a ARC for a big series ender like this. With technology like it is today it's just too easy for this kind of thing to happen. It's really unfortunate for bloggers, readers & the author. I'm really surprised though at how angry some readers are about the ending not being what they wanted. Lot's of people canceled their pre-orders. I'm still fascinated by how involved people get with the characters in series. I would like to think I'm immune from that but I'm still peeved at Kim Harrison. I will likely never forgive her (but I'm not boycotting all of her books....lol)
Was it a blogger that did this? I guess I thought someone had received their copy of the book early?? What blows me away about some of the attacks at CH over who she ended up with is that if you go to her site and read the FAQ's or any of the discussions she has said for quite some time that Sookie will never be turned and her HEA will not be with a vamp....while it is always the author's prerogative to change their mind...she seemed pretty adamant about it. I will still get the book or the audio because I have the entire series...I'm just not going to get it on release day and hope it goes on sale at audible at some point this year...
It's really upsetting that a person how probably not a fan or a great lover of this series has posted the ending after loyal Sookie fans have stuck it out for every book. They probably don't care that they've ruin it for others who get told the ending which we've all been waiting for, while struggling to read the last 2 or 3 books in series.

I've never listened to a Sookie Stackhouse audio book. Who is there narrator?

Johanna Parker....she does a great job with the series
Has anyone started the new book yet? The reviews are just horrible. I read through a bunch of them last night. Apparently it is not just who she picks Sookie to be with that is upsetting people but how she leaves things with other main characters. I have to say that after reading many of the reviews I think I myself am going to be really unhappy myself. I will still read it though because I've come this far, I can't just not read the last one.
I have the book, but have a couple more I want to read more first. I have been avoiding all reviews, so hadn't seen that.
I have been avoiding the reviews while I am hopeful I will enjoy the book honestly I expect it to totally suck. I do not want to read how bad it sucks also this is a library book for me I have not even bothered to figure out where I am on the list so it comes when it comes I am in no real rush.
I had just received a notice that the price dropped on Dead Ever After so checked out how much and noticed that the book has 380 reviews on Amazon and is showing 2 Stars 231 of the 380 reviews are 1 star....I'm tempted to look at some of them but I do want to read it myself and not have any "preconceived" ideas....but I don't think I have ever seen a rating that low on her books...I just checked and the drop in ratings started with book 9
I pre-ordered this and got it yesterday. It will be next book I read. I am also staying away from the reviews and haven't read a one. And there's this one: After Dead: What Came Next in the World of Sookie Stackhouse Depending on the outcome (for me) of Dead Ever After I may pick this up (or not).

Personally it started falling down after book 8? It was From Dead to Worse I think.
Dawn wrote: That is very sad. Personally it started falling down after book 8? It was From Dead to Worse I think."Yeah, after book 8 is when i started to be disgruntled with the series and it felt like the quality of the writing was not as good as those first books

Funny how that happened around the same time the show started. To me it felt like she was writing for the tv show and not her own characters.
I totally agree Dawn about the decline coming around the TV show success. I don't read author's. websites, FB etc often so I never hear much insider stuff unless it's on GR. A LOT of the reviews mention CH has repeatedly said the vampire world was a metaphor for Gays. Have any of you heard that before?
So I've read about half of the book so far and it's pretty good. I think people can't get over who she picked Sookie to be with.
I could accept who she ended up with if it had been set up in any way at all. It was so random and non-sequiturish and a completely lazy sewing up of the series and story arcs. And totally shortchanges other characters so hard. I think this was just a series that jumped the shark a while back and slowly dragged out to a mediocre, disappointing conclusion. I wasn't expecting to be wowed, but I was still massively, massively underwhelmed. I would be angry, but I was pretty sure she was going to try to loop it all back to True Blood since I think that is where her financial focus is now. I was pretty much anticipating this to be a way to try and line it back up with True Blood based on test screening/market research. Le sigh.
Alisa wrote: "...A LOT of the reviews mention CH has repeatedly said the vampire world was a metaphor for Gays. Have any of you heard that before? "I think when the show first came out I heard a lot about that but not so much since then. If memory serves I think Alan whatever his name is denied it.
While on the one hand it seems like that could be the case but on the other if you think history and social movements it does seem like that could be a possible reality. Which IMO this is what made the series so interesting...until we had so many types of supes which leads to a little chaos.
With the books being sooo different than the TV series, it wouldn't matter what she wrote, it'll be changed on TV. So I don't understand how she geared her books toward the TV series.

Just my thoughts and I could be wrong. I'm a little surprised by the number of people who wanted Sookie to end up with Alcide in the poll we've got running.
I finished this one yesterday. I thought things were wrapped up pretty good. It seems like all the characters showed up. I can't believe how mad people are about who Sookie picked. These books are Harris', she choose to share them with us, but ultimately they are hers, she can do what she wants with them. I can see people not being happy, but the level of hate is a little much for me.
It's a good story, just a lousy end of the series. Too many unanswered questions and loose ends for a series ender. Nothing was wrapped up. The book should have been larger, the book coming out in October should have been part of this book.

was the writing improved in this one versus that last couple of books? That has been my biggest complaint, not really who she ends up with....

HAHAHA ok so I wish you could have seen my face. I kept thinking ok Kate Douglas I can see that but CH...she is still kind of grandma like ... but um yeah that is still a little gross.
