Alisa The end of the Sookie Stackhouse series is just around the corner. The last book in the series Dead Ever After (Sookie Stackhouse, #13) by Charlaine Harris comes out on May 7th. This is a series that almost all of us have read. Often a "starter" series for PNR/UF. So what do you think? Are you still reading this series? Are you going to read this one? How do you think it's going to end? Who will Sookie end up with (if anyone)? Are you happy to see the series end or are you already grieving it?

SN the Viking (savannahnorway) | 14 comments I still read this series and I love it, I KNOW what I am doing May 7th.lol
I think the series is "ready" to end now, everything has been more or less wrapped up.
And I am sure Sookie will end up with Eric, it has been set up since book 2.I can`t see that she will break up with him and suddenly find a new guy in the last book, all the other suitors are out of the running, Charlaine has said Bill is out of the run, Sam is put firmly in the friend boxs and Sookie don’t much like Alcide anymore after that “stunt” he had in her bedroom. If she doesn’t end up with Eric I am going to burn all my Sookie books. lol

The book series is NOTHING like the TV show. You won't be able to make comparisons. The TV show is more "based" on the characters than following the books.

Nichole ~Bookaholic~ (nicholebookaholic) | 672 comments I really enjoyed the series through book 8 or 9 then it started being "so-so" I have read all and will read the last one cause at this point I want to see who she ends up with...while I am probably in the minority I think it is time for the series to end.....

You know I hope you're right. I hope she ends up w/Eric but I don't think she will. I think they will end things and Sookie will end up w/Sam. I've actually always thought the author planned to end w/her & Sam together. I'm not sure how I feel about this being the last book. I haven't loved the last two books but at the same time I have really enjoyed this series over the years. It's kind of sad to me it's all ending. I can't get my head around there only being one book left. One book doesn't seem like enough to wrap all the characters up. I too will be doing an all day Sookie read on May 7th. :)

I agree with you here. It seems the only thing the show and books share is character names and the location where the books are set.

I agree with you about Sookie ending with Sam and really after the last book I don't want her with Eric.

Sarah (sarahjbailey) | 21 comments I loved the series and the show because they are totally different and I love Eric. I think it's time to finish the series. The last 3 books I struggled to complete but pressed on. I'm unsure whats gonna happen in the last book but instead of being sad because its ending and excited because another ones gonna be release, I feel like I'm gonna be disappointed like I have been so far by the last couple of books. Sad but true.

They do follow a few of the plot lines but yeah...pretty much the only similarity between the two is the location and character names...

So we have the same plan that day.lol I just hope I am right, I don’t see her with Sam but I never did. :-)

There is actually one more book after this one where they sum everything up you know. (YAY) After Dead What Came Next in the World of Sookie Stackhouse (Sookie Stackhouse, #13.5) by Charlaine Harris

Edit: BTW you know "If I Had a Hammer» is set after Dead Ever After and I did not get the vibe that they are together in that.

Hello pps!

I did not just read 12 books to see her dump Eric did I? No I DNFed Deadlocked n need to force it now that the last Sookie is out.
Eric is a p****. Omg say what? Noooooo! He is my ultimate alpha sex on a blond Viking stick! Why the fk did Harris make him into a p****?!

Sookie n Sam. Barf. It's been long time coming. How sad.
Yes I'll buy the last book cuz I collect it in ppr back. I'm a sucker like that.

message 21: by Tisha (new)

Tisha (tishajones) | 3 comments This novel should have been wrapped up two books ago. The publisher pushed her to expand the series when she had it wrapping up around book 9. So she had to scramble to rewrite things and it shows. The last two books are like WTF. I didn't even like Sookie. I mean she went from being a kick ass, strong willed and minded female to a jealous harpy and I hate it. I'm only going to read the last book just to finish the series.

message 22: by Carolyn F. (last edited Apr 16, 2013 01:34PM) (new)

Carolyn F. You're right about this series reintroducing me to paranormal romance. I absolutely loved it and then started grabbing other books in the same genre. I'm sad to see it end. I hope there will be an off-shoot of the series with another character but I'm not counting on it.

message 23: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I am not sad to see this one come to an end...I am sad that it has gone downhill so much. This was one of my first introductions to UF and it was a great series now it is mediocre at best.

As for Sookie I used to want her to end up with Eric but this new Eric sucks and honestly I am not even sure I even care.

I will read the last one and I hope it is FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC yet I find I have low expectations.

I hope that CH finds a new series that she wants to write about because I think she is truly talented.

message 24: by Lisarenee (last edited Apr 16, 2013 05:52AM) (new)

Lisarenee | 2046 comments I wanted Sookie to take some self defense lessons and kick some butt, but she never did. I never bonded with Eric. So his character decline didn't really alter anything for me.

So did you read the description of the book?

Synopsis:

Sookie Stackhouse has one last adventure in store.

Life has taken her from a waitress in Merlotte’s Bar, Bon Temps, to part owner; from social outcast to the heart of her community; from a vampire’s girlfriend to the wife of one of the most powerful vampires in the state. She has survived earthquakes, revolutions and attempts on her life. Sookie has endured betrayal, heartbreak and grief . . . and she has emerged a little stronger, and little wiser, every time.

But with life comes new trials . . .

The question is, in the end: who will love, who will live, and who will be dead ever after?

Sookie finds it easy to turn down the request of former barmaid Arlene when she wants her job back at Merlotte’s. After all, Arlene tried to have
Sookie killed. But her relationship with Eric Northman is not so clearcut. He and his vampires are keeping their distance…and a cold silence. And when Sookie learns the reason why, she is devastated.

Then a shocking murder rocks Bon Temps, and Sookie is arrested for the crime. But the evidence against Sookie is weak, and she makes bail. Investigating
the killing, she’ll learn that what passes for truth in Bon Temps is only a convenient lie. What passes for justice is more spilled blood. And what passes for love is never enough...

------

That doesn't sound all that cheery, does it? Any predictions?

I think Sookie will become a vampire and live happily dead ever after.

OR

Sookie will end up with Sam and live boringly ever after running Merlotte's. (Just kidding--No, I'm not--Yes, I am. lol)

OR

Bill will finally earn his way back into her heart. (Probably never going to happen.)

OR

She'll end up in Frarie with her grandfather marrying someone we don't know.

OR

(And I hope this isn't the case.) Sookie will die for real. Hey, there's no 'Happily' in front of Dead Ever After.

What do you think?

SN the Viking (savannahnorway) | 14 comments Charlaine Harris has said:

Sookie will never become a vamp.

The fairies thing is resolved.

Bill is out of the run for HEA.

We will leave Sookie at a point in her life that she is happy. :-)

Other than that I sure hope she does not end up with Sam, he is so boring, yawn...

message 26: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 2046 comments Thanks Savannah Norway. I haven't kept up with what she's revealed. That really doesn't leave too much does it? It does sound like she'll end up with Sam. I can't think of anyone else from her past she'd end up with.

You don't think Eric's desire for power & over all long term self preservation will end up being stronger than his love for Sookie?

message 29: by SN the Viking (last edited Apr 16, 2013 10:13AM) (new)

SN the Viking (savannahnorway) | 14 comments No, Eric has said several times that he doesn’t want any more power than her already have. If he did he would have taken over when Sophie-Anne lost her legs. He at that time was the most powerful vamp in Louisiana and he didn’t do anything. Eric hates to be told what to do by high handed people. He wants to live his own life, if he married Freyda his "own" life is basically over. He wants to get out of the deal. That is also why he did not like his maker much. This is why he is so desperate now, he is cornered and reacting badly to it.
His only flaw is Sookie as a ruthless vamp, he really, really loves here.

This is just how I see it.

I've always loved Harris' other series better than the Sookie Stackhouse series - the Harper Connelly books, the Lily Bard books(Did you catch that Lily & her guy made an appearance in one of the later Sookie books?), and the Aurora Teagarden books.

She writes a great mystery. :-)

Yes I noticed that Lily and her Hubby was in the Sookie series. The new series Charlaine is writing Midnight Pawn will have guest appearances from Harper Connelly, Quinn and Manfred from what she has told in interviews. Manfred is one of her all time favorite characters and I really loved him in the Harper Connelly series.
I am not a big fan of her Aurora Teagarden books though, I like all her other books better.

I heard that the publisher wanted her to concentrate on Sookie, so she ended the Harper Connelly one.

The Lily Bard books are..wait for it..Lily Bard Mysteries. They thought long and hard to name that series. lol

See, with large publishers they dictate what/how/when and the author just writes on demand sort of. Kinda sad.

I agree. I keep hoping some of the main stream authors will venture out and self publish a couple of books. I mean, think about it, if Kelley Armstrong or Charlaine Harris was to self publish a couple of books past what the publisher want, I think they'd make a small fortune.
