Bee's knowledge of the world at the age of 14 is making me feel like a schmuck. researching masters programs now in an attempt to redeem myself against the intellect of a fictional teenager.
i feel like some self depreciating semi-humorous hashtag should go here. like #rockbottom or #notneurotic or something.

I was hesitant about the epistolary form, but as I got to know the characters, they won me over. One of the themes I read for discussion was the idea of knowing someone was equated to loving them. Did that feeling resonate with anyone? More importantly, if this were being made into a movie, who would be your dream cast for the characters?
I'm only half way through the book, but wanted to chime in. I agree I'd rather be a Subaru Parent than an "MP". Parent brunches. Barf. I feel like there were about 3 Ollie-O's in all of my film classes when I went to film school. I can tell you NYC has some awful Ollie-O's to offer and they are all implanted in undergrad film departments asking questions in which they know the answers to about Raging Bull just to demonstrate their ability to ask a deep film question.
At first the style of the book wasn't that engaging to me. Over the course of the first 1/3 of the book though, like Blanca, I started enjoying the characters. This is one of those awesome situations where I enjoy the characters and the way the author is writing them. Something I love about Bernedette is her total lack of concern about what she says. She "goes there" and puts no apologizes on the table. Her lack of concern for her image lets her delve down into the nitty gritty on topics I might for politeness avoid. And I mean, I'm not really polite. With no care about the social contracts of light chit chat and no outer awareness she rules.
So far I'm really enjoying this book, hoping to finish soon.
Blanca- That's totally what's happening for me- loving them and knowing them.

I understood the description of happy-angry so well because those are the majority of people I work with.
I'm currently not reading this book due to other busyness but I'm really jealous of the book discussions happening here.
