Duties- keeping a Google Spreadsheet that all members can view
- communicating with a NBRC Moderator
- communicating with all Team Members
- making sure Team Members are staying active
- notifying the NBRC Mod if someone drops out
- have effective and kind (this is a game, remember) on-line communication skills
to help members having trouble
- making sure Team Members belong on your team
- posting weekly status updates/reminders
- dealing with minor issues that arise
- post little challenges within challenges, if desired.
I'd suggest splitting some of these up and sharing some....

Maybe share "mini-challenges" unless anyone is good at coming up with ideas for them.
Which leaves....- Google spreadsheet
- communicating with nrbc mod
- making sure team members are active
- notifying nrbc mod of dropouts
- weekly updates/reminds
If there's 3 of us I'd suggest splitting it
1: Google speadhseet

Sounds good to me! I can work on the google spreadsheet since I've started making one and I use spreadsheets a lot. Unless someone else really wants to do it. I agree with sharing mini challenges. We can use this thread or make another one to think of ideas as we go. I've never come up with a challenge before but here are some simple ideas to get us started
Books/ Authors that start with A (for April)
Purple cover challenge
Something relating to Earth day?
TBR challenges (I know some people really like those)
Sorry guys I'm late....busy day/weekend! Didn't realize I'd be called upon to help co-captain! Please let me know what I can help with. I'm not really good with google spreadsheets and images (but will do my best to learn/help if needed!). I can do #2, make sure members are active/notifying of drop-outs. And I'll help out any other way I can.
Do we want to do weekly mini challenges or monthly? I think starting with something "purple" related might be nice because of our team name.
I agree starting with a Purple challenge would be a good idea to get everything started. Maybe do a monthly and shorter minis (as frequently as we can think of them?)?

I'm for the getting to know the team members thing, too. In Round I were so many people in one group that this sort of thing wouldn't have worked... But then most in my group already knew each other (which isn't that great when one's one of the newbies D:)
But what could that thing be? I mean, I bet we aren't all in the same timezone, so it has to be something that doesn't live from everyone posting as fast as they can... Mmh.

I'm happy enough to do the weekly updates and communicate with Mods etc. Like the idea of a purple challenge - in Team c last time we'd a colour a week theme challenge going for a while - how many books with a certain colour cover you could read.
Along the team name lines - any book about royalty, or with a reference to royalty/majesty etc in the title?

Rebecca - I checked out the team spreadsheet. Can only you edit/update it? I changed my goal to 100 and I noticed on our team page that some of our members have finished books. Didn't know if I could help update or how that worked.

Yes Rebecca, I'm going to continue to use my tower team reads shelf. And I didn't ask to make you update it now! I was just wondering if it was only acessible to you and if you had to do it. :)

Also captains can you PM me your email addresses, if that's okay so I can give you all permission to edit the google spreadsheet :)
I definitely think we should do a purple covers mini challenge, maybe to start out. After digging through my TBR list, I think we may have to be lenient about how much purple is required on the cover, because its not a commonly used color, at least in my books/
I think any noticeable purple should be allowed. I think I already have access to edit the spreadsheet as I edited in my shelf yesterday...
We can also link to the list(s) at listopia that have purple covers when we make the announcement. Not quite sure how to do that, but I was perusing the lists of "purple" covers they have there. I got the e-mail from Rebecca. Haven't had a chance to try opening it/editing yet!

Welcome all to team Purple Mountain's Majesty! To celebrate the start of this team challenge, your captains are bringing you a mini challenge. Hopefully this will get everyone motivated and excited for this upcoming year.
Challenge
Read as many books as you can that have PURPLE on the cover! Any amount of purple will count.
**Bonus points if the word "Purple" or any other shades of purple are in the title.**
Duration: April 17th - 30th 2013
Note: When posting a qualified book: Make sure to post the cover and mention that it's for the Purple Mini challenge, so we can make sure everything is counted.
If we're only waiting on Reed & Sarah Jordan then I think we could start anytime... if they join over the next day or so then can still count any books finished since the start date.How long are we gonna run it for??

Rebecca - I wanted to let you know that I changed my bookshelf name (I also let the moderators know in the "let us know your bookshelf name" thread. It was tower team reads, but is now purple mountains majesty. I've comepleted my first book so far, yeah! and it's showing up correctly on my goal page. If you wouldn't mind changing the hyperlink for your spreadsheet that would be great!

Hey girls....there's a poll in the Impotant updates thread with a poll as to what day/time would be best for status updates. I didn't think that I saw any of our team captains had voted and not sure who we decided (if we did) who was going to be in contact w/the mods. Does anyone want to do this? I don't mind. Just wasn't sure if anyone else had said they were going to.
Scrolling up I think Vikki said she'd do the mod updatesI didn't answer the poll because I didn't want to answer for someone else. :)
Also any ideas for a May challenge?
Let's brainstorm:- A Fastest Week ("Read as many books as you can in one week")? Maybe even as a regular challenge like 1 week every two months or something?
- An "Unusual month" (in need of a better title, couldn't think of one): One week a bookgenre new/unusual to you, the next a new author, eh... there has to be some more stuff like that should we decide to do that... Well.
- What's special in May? ´Round here exists the tradition of setting a tree with messages on it in the garden of your girlfriend. Romances? Worldbuilding?
Mmh. That's currently all I can think of. What d'you think?
Off the top of my head.....along the lines of April Showers bring May Flowers, maybe a flower theme either on the cover or flower name in title?Cinco de Mayo, Mother's Day, and Memorial Day are also all celebrated in May so maybe something with those holidays???

Zodiac: Taurus/Gemini
Birth Flower: Lily of the Valley

and there's a whole bunch of other special days and heritage months -South Asian, Jewish American, Mental Health Awareness, etc. So there are a lot of directions we can choose!
I think it should be a month long challenge vs. weekly at this point to give people time to get books and read them.
You've got a point, @ Nancy! More time to get books... I think, it could be useful to post the challenges half a week (?) before their start.

Those are some great ideas. I agree to a month long challenge because it will also allow people to read books for the challenge AND any other books they want to read that month that don't fit in.I like flowers and/or a holiday themed one? I need to think more about ones that would be easy to think of books for.

Looks like the first week in May'll be a read-a-thon http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1.....So, if we do something flowery, it'll be 3 weeks (or 4 if our theme's flowery..)
Yeah very true. We could pick a theme and extend it for the month or do a separate team one after the read-a-thon.Also I will be at a work conference during pretty much the whole read-a-thon, but hopefully I will get a good amount of reading done while I fly across the country and back. However, I won't be able to organize this one
I can organize this one. I have started setting up a spreadsheet in Google Docs. This is the first time I've tried doing one. I used Rebecca's as a guide. I hope everything looks the way it was supposed to and I didn't mess up the first spreadsheet when figuring things out! If you guys can PM me your e-mail addresses I can share with you so you can view and let me know if anything needs to be changed!
I know Vikki is communicating with mods. I saw on the thread about updating page counts and clicking the members links before the weekly update. Vikki are you able to do that or do you need help?
Thanks for updating the Mods Vikki.I know that when I update the spreadsheet I check to make sure everyone's books are >/= 160 pages. So if they are wondering, whatever the "last updated" date is its also the last page check. Though it certainly wouldn't hurt to have someone else spot check if they really want to.
Also, most of my weekends are super busy (and I'm usually away), so I don't usually update the spreadsheet until Monday morning. I'm not sure when you need to update the mods by, but I just wanted to let you know that the weekend might not be completely up-to-date.
I almost forgot... I am traveling to Seattle from May 4-9th for a work conference. I don't think I will be taking my laptop, so I won't be able to update the spreadsheet during that time and I don't know how much I'll be able to access the group from my phone (depending on how much "down" time I have between meetings).If someone else wants to update the spreadsheet while I'm gone feel free, it's pretty easy! If not I can update it while I'm back, as long as everyone knows it won't be accurate :)

On the subject of leader boards: I just posted one as I find them very useful. Sorry for not asking here first, I didn't realise that maybe I should do that until after posting -.- ... Anyway, would you guys agree to doing that once a week to let people know how the challenge's coming along?
