What age should you read it?

What age do you think should be reading this book? I know alot of people that read it in seventh grade, but what do you think is the minimum age you should be to read it?

It's AT LEAST a sixth or seventh grade read, if not higher. I just think it all depends on the person's personal preferences and morals. It's not like there is anything that will cause you to change your morals, but it's up to you what your age appropriate content is.

Hmmm I am pretty conservative and I only remember a page being a little steamy. I let my 14 year old read it. Overall it is a clean, good book, very little content

I would say like 15 or 16. That way its not overly inappropriate, and they will at least understand the concepts of the book.

What?? 15 or 16?? So you wouldn't let someone younger read it? There is no language, only a few mentions of sex, and a *bit* of kissing.

It's different for everyone and as Alexandra said it all depends on personal preferences.

I think that I would wait. I have a brother who is 10, and I wouldn't let him read this. It wasn't to bad (I read it when I was 13), but there were a few pages I would say don't have so much to do with maturity, as they do with how comfortable a parent is with their child's familiarity with sex.

I agree with the people that say it depends on your maturity, but if I had to say a good age to read it I would have to say at least 13 or 14.

I feel like it is not a matter of how much sex and love there is in the book, but I feel like you benefit more from the the entire story, when you are just a bit older. I read it at 14 and it was the perfect age for me.

One thing I have to say about kissing, no one is too young to hear about kissing. Kissing is in The Little Mermaid for goodness sake, kissing (mild) is apporpriate for all ages.

I think that seventh or eighth grade and up is a good time. But really it's all about a person's maturity level and interest.

I don't think there is anything inappropriate in the book that younger readers would be affected by. HOWEVER, I feel that a younger reader wouldn't be able to fully understand the sociological themes in the book. I read this as an adult and loved it. In my opinion, to get a true appreciation for the book the reader should be about 14 or older.

Honestly, there isn't anything in this book a 10 year old wouldn't understand. The whole book was unrealistic and well...stupid. The world building was very poor. Really, pretty much anyone can get the so called themes. If that's what's holding you back, please don't let it.

I think the minimum age to read divergent is 10 or 11. Maybe even 9 but it depends on how mature the person is.

I read it at 12 and remember being a little weirded out. 11 year old brother is reading it now, and I really wish he wasn't. This is probably way to old for him. (he's never even read a kissing scene. ever) But, of course, my parents get the final say. (not that they know about the book)

I think fourteen, but a mature thirteen-year-old could probably read it, too. I read it at fourteen and really enjoyed it.

It contains:

-Some minor language
-Mentions of sex
-A few brief sensual scenes
-Quite a bit of violence
