Kenna What age do you think should be reading this book? I know alot of people that read it in seventh grade, but what do you think is the minimum age you should be to read it?

message 2: by Jack (last edited Apr 12, 2013 11:54AM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jack Go by the official age rating: 13+

Alexandra It's AT LEAST a sixth or seventh grade read, if not higher. I just think it all depends on the person's personal preferences and morals. It's not like there is anything that will cause you to change your morals, but it's up to you what your age appropriate content is.

Jonida Hmmm I am pretty conservative and I only remember a page being a little steamy. I let my 14 year old read it. Overall it is a clean, good book, very little content

Claire 12+ : ) when you start understanding the basis of dating :P

Devin Flynn I would say like 15 or 16. That way its not overly inappropriate, and they will at least understand the concepts of the book.

What?? 15 or 16?? So you wouldn't let someone younger read it? There is no language, only a few mentions of sex, and a *bit* of kissing.

It's different for everyone and as Alexandra said it all depends on personal preferences.

Kenna So do you think that a 10 year old should read it?

miryamslgg It all depends on how mature he/she is

Isabella Kenna wrote: "So do you think that a 10 year old should read it?"
I think that I would wait. I have a brother who is 10, and I wouldn't let him read this. It wasn't to bad (I read it when I was 13), but there were a few pages I would say don't have so much to do with maturity, as they do with how comfortable a parent is with their child's familiarity with sex.

Olivia I agree with the people that say it depends on your maturity, but if I had to say a good age to read it I would have to say at least 13 or 14.

message 14: by Katharina (new)

Katharina I feel like it is not a matter of how much sex and love there is in the book, but I feel like you benefit more from the the entire story, when you are just a bit older. I read it at 14 and it was the perfect age for me.

Kenna One thing I have to say about kissing, no one is too young to hear about kissing. Kissing is in The Little Mermaid for goodness sake, kissing (mild) is apporpriate for all ages.

Erika Hébert I think that seventh or eighth grade and up is a good time. But really it's all about a person's maturity level and interest.

Jocelyn I read it when i was 14 and loved it. It just depends on your level of reading.

Salome I don't think there is anything inappropriate in the book that younger readers would be affected by. HOWEVER, I feel that a younger reader wouldn't be able to fully understand the sociological themes in the book. I read this as an adult and loved it. In my opinion, to get a true appreciation for the book the reader should be about 14 or older.

notyourfriend I read it when I was 14 too

notyourfriend I read it when I was 14 too

message 21: by Lani (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lani 12+ is a good age.

Isabella Honestly, there isn't anything in this book a 10 year old wouldn't understand. The whole book was unrealistic and well...stupid. The world building was very poor. Really, pretty much anyone can get the so called themes. If that's what's holding you back, please don't let it.

Andrea I think the minimum age to read divergent is 10 or 11. Maybe even 9 but it depends on how mature the person is.

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

i think 13+.

Yasmani Hey sorry to bother you guys but I would love for you guys to check out a story I am working on. I have 4 chapters out so far.

message 26: by Erin (new) - rated it 3 stars

Erin I read it when I was 12.. granted I was a little mature for my age. I had also read almost all of Ellen Hopkins books. It just depends on how mature you are.

william Shirley i say around 12 or 13

Snowballina 13 or 14

message 29: by Catie (last edited Apr 29, 2013 03:42PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Catie 13 more for people who don't act like a kid because tris and four kiss plus there are a couple of moments in insurgent that are scenes where they go get more personal so 13+

Mackenzie I think ten is a little to young to read this book. I cannot imagine my sister reading it. Maybe twelve and up.

Kaitlyn I was twelve when I read the series and it might have been a little old for me so i would say 13+

Laurel In the US, I'd say 8th grade up...

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

I read it at 12 and remember being a little weirded out. 11 year old brother is reading it now, and I really wish he wasn't. This is probably way to old for him. (he's never even read a kissing scene. ever) But, of course, my parents get the final say. (not that they know about the book)

message 34: by Ella (last edited Dec 15, 2013 09:58PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ella A mature 12 year old should be able to handle it. If not, a teen that's 13 or older... I read it when I was 12, but I handled it...

Jacob I would say 8-10 years old

Madeleine Sullivan I'm 11 (on my moms thing) and I loved the series!!!! I think it mostly depends on kids maturity level...... I would say 11 should be the youngest or just in middle school.... Just in case he/she is really emotional the last book...... Yea let's just say I cried A LOT

Katlyn 11+ It's a little violent, and there's a little kissing, but nothing that bad.

message 38: by Rose (new) - rated it 5 stars

Rose but like, on a scale of 1-10 , 10 being the worst, how lovey-dovey is it?

message 39: by L (new) - rated it 5 stars

L Not 6th grade. Absolutely not. 8th grade. Perfect. Even 7th grade is pushing it a little. 13 is a nice age.

Can you go to my school and tell everyone? (fyi I am joking)

Annika 12+

message 42: by Drew (last edited Feb 21, 2014 02:15PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Drew I think fourteen, but a mature thirteen-year-old could probably read it, too. I read it at fourteen and really enjoyed it.

It contains:

-Some minor language
-Mentions of sex
-A few brief sensual scenes
-Quite a bit of violence

message 43: by Lucy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lucy I would say 12 or 13+ because the kissing and the mention of sex. It is a little violence, but I think it is good for a 12 or 13 year old.

message 44: by Nick (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nick Brown I read it when I was 12

message 45: by Rose (new) - rated it 5 stars

Rose Miller I would say 13+ because of the kissing/mention of sex, and it would be beneficial to being able to understand the message of the book.

Libby I would say 12+ ;)

Redpoet Uh, I am 64 and reading it at the advice of my fifteen year old niece. You think, I'll be okay?

Kristin Moscardon I would say 12...

Libby Well, I've watched the film and its for 12+ plus I've read the book so yeah, I would say its for a 12+ ;-)

message 50: by Sky (new)

Sky Stream I am 10 and I read it. I am going to see the movie right now.
