Lily Potter's relationship with James/Snape

In my opinion, all of the components of the James-Lily-Snape Triangle seem rather enigmatic, though Snape least of all.

I think though James Potter was a bully as a kid, but became more respectable as he got older, while Snape became more opinionated and influenced by his Death Eater friends, which is why Lily turned away from Snape and more towards James.

I think part of Lily's friendship with Snape was out of pity but she was secretly attracted to James. However, I don't think she truly loved James. I think Lily and James only got along together because they were on the same side - against Voldemort. I'm not sure about Lily and Snape, as both seemed to have rather conflicting views - but I think this was due to a stage Snape was going through.

I think Snape was not really prejudiced and opinionated, but he acted out that way in revenge for being bullied and unpopular. I don't think Lily really loved Snape, she just pitied him.

Discuss:
How do you think James and Lily got together?
What do you think of the nature of Lily's relationship with James/Snape?

Lily and James a better match? Seriously, no.
Lily was a nice person and she was beautiful. Snape was very ugly (not a handsome ugly, but creepy ugly) and he was an instrisically mean and uncaring person. Though James was a jerk as a teen, he didn't seem to be a jerk to everyone around him, ...just to Snape. He targeted Snape because Snape was a sneaky tattletale and I am sure he instigated many problems (via backdoor). I do think James was a douche, but I don't think Snape was completely undeserving, either.
Snape was a sadistic and mean person with most people (as a child through adulthod). He even struck out at Lily, the love of his life, when he was humiliated. I know he regretted it, but not just anybody would strike out like that. It takes a true rotten hearted person to react that way. And like a weasel, he regretted it (probably) immediately, and sought to apologize.
James and Lily seem like the right combo to me.
PS. Snape is one of my absolute favorite characters so I am not saying this because I dislike him. The way I see it, it is what it is.
Do I think Snape deserved Lily? Would I have liked to know they had a more intimate relationship rather than just friendship? NO!
I think Lily felt a certain attachment to Snape because they knew each other as children. She was alone in her discovery of being a withc. Snape provided answers and she didn't feel so alone in it.
I am sure that Lily pittied Snape as well. She may have felt like he needed a friend and he was probably very good to her. Though I am certain she noticed his dark nature, she probably felt he just needed a good friend to help him get through some of his issues. His home life seemed bad and she was probably the only positive thing in his life and Lily knew it.
When they parted ways int heir fifth year, it sounds like lily ahd had all she could take. It wasn't an isolated incident. It was just the final straw. i am sure they both knew they woudln't be destined to hang around the same circle of friends, but they continued their friendship because Lily always tried to see the best in people. Snape probably made it hard at times and when the incident happened in fifth year, Lily must have had enough.
As far as James goes, it would make sense to me that Lily didn't see a lot of the bullying of Snape because she stopped hangin out with him. This may have made James let go of his hatred to some degree and eventually in 6th year and 7th year, they had an opportunity to talk and she saw that he wasn't so bad. Like I said before, I didn't get the impression James and the Mauraders walked around giving nerds wedgies or shoving their heads in toilets. I got the impression they targeted Snape and Snape only. I am sure they didn't get along with Slytherin (just as Harry didn't) but nothing serious ever happened.
Also, a lot can happen in two years with teens. they can drastically change from one year to another. ANd because I don't think James was truly a mean person, he grew on Lily. Makes perfect sense to me.

Q: How do you think James and Lily got together?
A: I think James noticed how smart Lily was and wanted to be with her. They were both quite smart, and I guess they were compatible.

Q: What do you think of the nature of Lily's relationship with James/Snape?
A: humm.. I don't know. We don't get much of their story and we kind of see their relationship through Harry and Snape's eyes only, so my thinking is actually influenced by how they perceive it.

In my opinion, James and Lily got together purely because of James' persistence. To him she was like forbidden material and he wasn't used to not getting what he wanted so made it his mission to get her. I don't think they were in love.

My guess is that although Lily's relationship with Snape was strained, i dont think she ever stopped caring, and in my opinion Snape must have really loved her to not take advantage of her while they were at school. The Snape and Lily story ripped my heart out when i was reading it, they should have been together.

I believe that Lily and James loved each other. People that bullied me when I was younger some of them I became friends with and just kinda forgot about. So sure he was a bully when he was younger but he stopped that and I believe that he and Lily really cared about each other. Snape loved Lily but just because he loved her doesn't mean that Lily has to love him back and why would she he was into all of the dark arts and became a death eater and all of that stuff.

So basically James bullied someone when he was a CHILD.
Snape became a death eater when he was and ADULT which to me is a lot worse than bullying someone as a child.

I didn't really follow the discussion questions but after the movie came out all of this Snape and Lily anti James stuff just makes me annoyed because I believe that Snape was good in the end but James was better.

I don't think anyone really loves anyone else but that we all just fear loneliness. That said, however, I'm pretty sure Lily and James' marriage was of the arranged sort. You know... Muslims and that kind of thing.
