What do you use as a bookmark?

Nah - we can all do it here! just got a wedding invite in the post and it is now nestled in the middle of my new book....
I use the envelope my Mothers Day card came in - my son has written 'Mammy' on it and my daughter has coloured in randomly on it! it's big and colourful so i can't lose it, but it's fairly dog eared already, will have to use the envelope my B'day card comes in when it dies :)
I could fall in love with such a liberated self sufficient woman. LOLIf I'm ever attacked by a crocodile I know who to call.

Rats are making a comeback in the UK they reckon their numbers are on the increase. This time last year a couple of ur neighbours saw rats in their gardens, because of the wet weather. There natural habitats had become water logged.Nicola wrote: "Sure crocs no drama but rats? eeeeeek lol."
I recently received a postcard which is an invitation to an art exhibition that is a perfect bookmark. Sometimes everyday items make the best bookmarks.
I am using a paper clip in rabbit form as bookmark.. Photo here. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbi... This is very convenient for me.
Hi!Ashton. I am sorry as you had misunderstanding. I don't manage it. It was attached to the book which I borrowed at a library. Probably this is someone girl's thing left behind. I got it and use it for two years. Well,,,I have another funny one. It's a form of NOSE! Photo here. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbi... However, since this is too large, it's hard to use as a bookmark.
I switch vetween using my faux-fur covered one with a leopards head (from Waterstones!) or, as I'm using at the moment, my kitty bookmark calender.
I have a few bookmarks around the house. If I can't get to/find one, then I'll usually use whatever's on hand, like a scrap of paper or an old receipt or something like that.

She thought I could use them for post cards in my class' post card exchange. They are awfully pretty to share. Perhaps hidden in a book is best.
I have a little metal silver colored holder one of my kids made in high school machinery class I hold all my book marks I happened to get from them or at bookstores, etc. I just grab one of them off my window sill in the metal holder.
I have 3 favorite:yellow bungeeOne I made out of stamps
this year's free comic book day book marker!
I have a Harry potter scarf bookmark :) knitted to perfection!
My daughters school pictures always come with a picture bookmark so I use that one often. I'm also obsessed with owls and recently picked up some really cute magnetic owl clips.
I use the bookmarks that my kids bring home that are of different animals or seasons but my favorite is the ones that came with my kids school pictures.
I use opera ticket stubs from the Tucson Opera. They are quite beautiful with full color scenes from each opera.
used to ear dog it but i got one bookmark with my kids pics on it so that what I'll be using from now on
Great comment... most people do not understand that as a book ages, the "dog ears" eventually drop off the page!
My go to bookmark is a laminated one with a tassel. It's the only kind I'll use now because the tassel keeps the bookmark from falling down out of the book when I've tucked it into pages ahead for safe keeping.
I have a lot of animals and my vet is always sending me postcards about who is due for a checkup or a vaccination. They usually have cute animals on them and they make great bookmarks.
Ray wrote: "Great comment... most people do not understand that as a book ages, the "dog ears" eventually drop off the page!"When my dad caught me turning down the corner of a page he explained to me that wasn't the way to mark a page. To use something else to mark your page like a 'bookmark'. "Someone else might want to read the book later and it won't be fair that you have damaged it".
Also, the library fined people that marked books with 'dog ears' (that's what we used to call them)
I will use anything that I can get my hands on but I did just buy a few bookmarks at my children's book fair recently!
When I travel I look for bookmarks that remind me of something I loved about the place and I use those.
At the moment I am using a bookmark that my friend got me in Costa Rica. Made from paper and hand painted.
I use a variety of things. Sometimes actual bookmarks especially the ones that I get from my local used bookstore when I make a purchase (so naturally I have a LOT of those ;) I also find that it's a good way to use worthless football/baseball cards that I have a few of floating around and a fake 10,000,000 dollar bill that came from somewhere. We have a drawer that we reserve for bookmarks and anything that could suffice as a bookmark, so we always have some selection around. My favorite is a Carl Banks New York Giants card that says "Think About It...READ!" that I think we were given at school in 4th or 5th grade.
Samantha wrote: "The piece of card you get from opening a new tissue box."That makes a really good bookmark.
;-)
Connie wrote: "Do you have a bookmark with special meaning that you use? Do you use beautiful bookmarks or free ones that you pick up at the library or other places? Do you use colored, plastic paper clips to mar..."I have bookmarks that were given to me, I have free bookmarks from stores, but I also used the little magazines inserts (you know those pesky little paper cards that fall out of your magazines when you flip them the wrong way).
I like to read while enjoying a late night snack; usually milk and cookies or a bowl of cereal. Occasionally I have to get up from the table and get a refill and discover I am "bookmarkless". In those instances I get creative. I've tried a Rice Krispie, a Corn Flake, a chocolate chip cookie and occasionally a spoon - though I lick the milk off first. Some might say I'm tasteless.
I cut up old greeting cards. I have about 10 to 15 bookmarks that I made by cutting out a small section of the card. I use the scraps for the kids to make mosaics at work :). I punch a hole in the top and run a ribbon through it.
So that's what I should with all those cards I have no idea what to to with, so I thorough them out.;-)
I collect bookmarks so those are usually put up but I do crochet my own and make my own out of cards. I do a lot of times use a piece of junk mail.
I don't know where I read this or who said it, but it went something like this: "Why spend a dollar on a bookmark when you can simply use the dollar?"! Having said that, I use free bookmarks that come with my House Beautiful sub. Of course, with Kindle, we don't "use one"!

I never gave bookmarks much thought. I have a small, unintentional collection of them from author signings at our local indie bookstore. BUT one day I read The Girl Who Would Be King and was blown away. A couple weeks later, the author offered bookmarks done by the books artist. I bought a set of them and use them like religious artifacts. My wife calls them Gollum's Bookmarks -- and that makes me... :)Peace, Seeley
