I have several- Caged series by Amber Lynn Natusch, Magerie Series by Dannika Dark,Experiment In Terror series by Karina Halle, and for young adults, The Premonition series by Amy Bartol, These were all books that I bought the next one immediately or as soon as they came out.
"A Song of Ice and Fire" by George R.R. Martin, "The Banned and the Banished" by James Clemens, "Harry Potter" by J.K. Rowling, and "Chronicles of Ancient Darkness" by Michelle Paver. Oh yeah! "Women of the Otherworld" by Kelley Armstrong as well.
Of course, Harry Potter but the series I had to keep borrowing from a friend's son was Jim Butcher 's Codex Alera which started with Furies of Calderon.
Morning Folk, I have a couple, first being Jean Auel's Children of the Earth series, commencing with Clan of the Cave Bear, my absolute favourite and read many times, Harry Potter, read several times and the same with Twilight, Fire and Ice which still isn't finished and most recently The Outlander which I enjoyed and may read again....

Another great series is Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden series is also top of my list and it's still going strong.

I too read and enjoyed Ms. Auel's Earth's Children series. However, I was very disappointed in the sixth and final installment. Out of curiosity, what did you think of it?
Actually felt it rounded the series off, the only negative comment I have was that she repeated specifics as if we were in a classroom and we should be made aware of them, if I had edited the book, I'd have cut them out. My favourite was Valley of the Horses, no-one to tell her she couldn't do it, social mores and norms eliminated, she made up her own mind what she could or couldn't do, wonder if it would work now....

Your point regarding Ms. Auel repeating all of the details as if the reader was dense and unable to comprehend or use deductive reasoning to understand the situation is exactly what irritated me while reading The Land of Painted Caves. There were far too many redundant and overly-detailed passages. I often felt like an adolescent being lectured to by an adult.
The second book of the series The Valley of the Horses was also my favorite for the very reason you mentioned in your post. An excellent example of what one may accomplish if no one is around to tell them that what they are doing is improper or impossible.
My Daughter, (Squallogal) who also read and enjoyed the series had exactly that same comment to make Jim, only difference is that her favourite was the Mammoth Hunters, when she actually becomes part of a group again... Maybe another editor before publication may have been the way to go or maybe a addition research document as an adjunct to the story, but it doesn't alter the fact that Jean Auel is an incredible writer..... :-)

Okay, you guys are going to laugh but it was the Twilight series and I could not put it down I didn't sleep I've barely ate I didn't leave the house and I literally got all of the books read in 3 days. My daughter and her friends kept talking about it kept talking about it kept talking about it finally I gave up and started reading the book and I read them several times. Then it should probably be the Christine Feehan Game series absolutely love love love that series. Also I like the Charlaine Harris Sookie Stackhouse series, The Sisterhood by fern Michaels is amazing and funny and if for any woman who has ever wanted revenge on anyone it is be perfect series I also like Lori Foster and her Edge of Honor series and can I just say that wow that is sad and exciting and hot and all the things that you want in a book. I I like the Maya Banks series and she has several of them so anything by Maya Banks works for me. I also enjoy the JD Robb series it is probably my favorite crime series. And also the Sherilyn Kenyon series of the night walkers I love those. Fifty Shades of Grey is quaint I hesitated to read that because of all of the reviews on the hot sex and everything but as much as I did enjoy the scene destroy mine and it is heartbreaking and I love Fifty Shades of Grey and if you haven't read 50 shades of Grey because of all the hype you really do need to read it because again the story behind that is heartbreakingly beautiful and I will never regret reading that.

I too am a big fan of Clan of the Cave Bear, The Valley of the Horses and Mammoth Hunters. I was so looking forward to the Painted Caves that I had pre-ordered it and was so excited when it appeared on my Kindle. As much as I loved the first 3 books, this one was so hard to get through. I think we fans could have written a better book. I would have done the 3 parts so differently. Part 1 would have been Ayla's training; Part 2 would have focussed more on Jonayla (I think that was their daughter's name. It's been so long since I read it.); Part 3 would have been a summer meeting with Ayla being reunited with Durc. To me, Ms. Auel was totally burnt out on this series, which was indicative in Shelters of the Stone, but it seems she felt obligated to put a final end to the series. I guess one notable thing with Painted Caves is you find out Ayla and Jondolar are more human with their needs and finding resolution with others, instead of being super perfect in every way. Just my 2 cents.
This is a fun topic. I have several series to add to what others have mentioned: Elizabeth Naughton's Eternal Guardians; Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress; Karen Marie Moning's Highlander and Fever series; Kresley Cole's Immortal's After Dark; and Donna Grant's Dark King. For YA series: Jennifer L. Armentrout's Lux; Shelly Crane's Significance and Lisa T. Bergren's River of Time Series.
Good Morning Julie, love to hear your two cents worth... Goodness everyone has read some amazing books, some I've never even heard of, now to get back to Jean's Earth Children series, I've read the books so many time I choose the bits I liked best and now only read them, in the Plains of Passage, I pop to the section whereby Jondalar and Ayla track the D'Ama ( can't remember how to spell it), where Wolf rips the throat out of the evil head woman, those folk who used to hunt wolves and also the bit where the Clan man broke his leg, a wee but of chauvinism showing through there, and on the ice, sorry, just on my band wagon again, what a fascinating film it would make, not the half backed movie that came out years ago but a well made movie that actually shows what a wonder Ayla truly was....

Hello Grace - yes, the movie was disappointing in that if you had not read the book, you would not have had any idea what was going on. Making Clan into a movie was/is a challenge due to dialog. The book was so good. You need someone like Spielberg to interpret it and make it magical. But, with the other books, it definitely would be an incredible mini-series. I totally agree with you. Valley of the horses would be amazing, especially showing how she took on Whinney and Baby, then Jondolar. Wolf came later right - Mammouth Hunters? Ms. Auel started out brilliantly, even with being overly descriptive and repetitive from book-to-book. The last couple of books just fell flat for me. With Painted Caves, it almost seemed like it was witten by someone else. A lot of the creativity was gone. It would have been better if she gave the caves some true meaning and/or significance, in stead of leaving it to us to come to some kind of conclusion. The whole training issue, with it consuming so much of Ayla's time didn't make sense to me either. I think there could have been a better balance and as I mentioned before, had part 2 be based on there daughter and train her to be a medicine woman. Much like what Iza did with Ayla and they couldn't even speak (technically). Well, I don't want to keep beating the same drum. I do agree with you, the first few books were great and an incredible journey.
