Oh my gosh, if I did that my parents wild never take me out to eat! And my friends aren't cool enough to do something like that.

Sabella When you write in Dwarvish in class

A common lament for me too.. :(

Martine You know you're obsessed with the hobbit when you start learning how to read and write runes!

Whenever I go shopping, I always want to go try on rings to see if any of them make me disappear!

The hobbit and Lotr, Timeline-wise, are about fifty years apart. Aragorn is a little boy, and hasn't met Arwen yet.

Sorry, do you mean 'copies of the book'?
I do not think that 'copy' owns 'of the book'.

When you realized you've posted four comments while scrolling through this thread.

And now you're posting a fifth because you love it so much.

message 166: by Sorrel (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sorrel when you manage to fit a Hobbit reference casually into every sentence and then throw a "We are superior to everyone else in this conversation for this moment in time." look at the only friend who understood.
When you are a little confused because if the LOTR and the Hobbit are 50 years apart, why are they putting Legolas in the hobbit films?

when you get really mad at people like this who dont understand that you took this thread to mean Hobbit and LotR :p

Sorrel When you got bored in maths and started sketching what it would look like if Gollum had a daughter with an orc. Not good. Very scary.
When you are watching star wars and when you see Luke Skywalker's blue lightsaber and think "Ah, there must be an orc or goblin nearby." (totally thought that it was lightsaver for the longest time)

Federico When you have six editions in the bookshelf, in three languages.

C. J. Scurria When you wish the hobbit book was published in the way Tolkien had originally wished it. (maps highlighting certain things in red, etc., and certain things seen by a light source). It would have been expensive during Tolkien's time but why not now!!

message 172: by [deleted user] (new)

When you:

1. Get a huge crush on Aragorn
2. Get a huge crush on Kili
3. Get a huge crush on Faramir
4. Teach yourself to write elvish
5. Have watched the LOTR movies 20 times each
6. Have drawn an Elvish calendar complete with 6 seasons and Elvish names for months and seasons. It is also colour-coded.

All of the above apply to me.

Theodosia of the Fathomless Hall 1 2 & 3 (Edit. & 7) are me all right! Are you forgetting Legolas? :)

message 174: by [deleted user] (new)

Aaah! How could I forget?

7. Get a huge crush on Legolas!

Have you seen Orlando Bloom in Pirates of the Caribbean?

message 175: by Theodosia of the Fathomless Hall (last edited May 26, 2013 08:38PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Theodosia of the Fathomless Hall Yep,listening to 'He's a Pirate'right now in fact:)
Watched them years ago though, so cannot remember much of them(read as'remember only a few moments')
I like Legolas better then Will Turner though.

message 176: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, Will was a bit weird. Elizabeth was weirder, though. Kiss Jack Sparrow? NEVER!

message 177: by Theodosia of the Fathomless Hall (last edited May 27, 2013 09:43AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Theodosia of the Fathomless Hall Well,I like Legolas better because A. I remember next to nothing of Will Turner. B. I am biased towards LOTR and The Hobbit. & C.I just like Legolas's personality better.
Only 200 days to go before The Desolation of Smaug :)

message 178: by [deleted user] (new)

Eee!

I'm a real Hobbit cos I live in Middle Earth (New Zealand, Land of Sheep). Jealous much?

message 186: by Jordan (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jordan Sorrel wrote: "When you are a little confused because if the LOTR and the Hobbit are 50 years apart, why are they putting Legolas in the hobbit films? ..."

Legolas is an elf. He's about six hundred years old as of FOTR, if memory serves.....

Michael Jordan, that's right, however, Legolas isn't in the Hobbit books, so why put him in the movie? Just to have Orlando Bloom there to sway over the girls...? That's a pretty lame trick in my books...

message 188: by Jordan (last edited May 28, 2013 12:39PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jordan True, he doesn't appear, but his father is the Elf King that keeps the dwarves imprisoned for a while. It is not at all a stretch to assume Legolas was on the scene as well.

As for it being a trick to sway the girls, that may have been the studio's reasoning. Still, I have to say that Legolas does have some male (and straight, for that matter) fans out there. I was hoping he'd make at least a cameo long before they announced his inclusion.

Michael I respect that, however I was never an elve-friend, give me a sturdy ol' dwarve anytime! (also very straight for that matter :p)

Indeed if you look at it that way, it's not a big stretch, but as I said before... it will lead to extra viewers just because he's in it (female and male)

message 190: by Theodosia of the Fathomless Hall (last edited May 28, 2013 03:40PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Theodosia of the Fathomless Hall Here is my rationale.
The Elvenking(Thranduil)was one out of two wood-elves named in the book, Legolas is portrayed as his son. It is logical to think that, had Tolkien decided the son of the Elvenking would appear in a later work he definitely would have wrote him into the Hobbit.

Plus given the Rule of Drama you cannot not have the Company in Mirkwood and them not meeting Legolas, especially given he is one of the most popular characters in LOTR,movie or book.

I am not saying this is a flawless reasoning but I do think it is a nice touch to have Legolas in the Desolation of Smaug and probably in There and Back Again

Hey Rowenna!

Thanks for the friend request...I'm really sorry I couldn't accept it. My mum is really strict that I don't let people see my details on here, you know- stranger danger... but can we still be friends?
Thanks about the username- I love to write!
It's awesome being LOTR/Hobbit fans!

Theodosia of the Fathomless Hall It's fine Anastasia!I am really privacy conscious too so I understand.
Would showing your mom my account, help?
Sure,I'd love to be.
Can you comment on my page's'friend comments?'I'm not sure whether or not you can or not.
Me too!!!!I only started in September though and I love it.
Yes it is great :)

message 193: by [deleted user] (new)

Your little icon is cool, Rowenna!
No, I don't think I can comment on your page, sadly, and I don't think showing Mum your page will help. She just wants to protect me from axe-murderers. You know, because there are so many axe-murdurers on a site about reading. Huh.
What sort of things do you write, Rowenna? I love short stories and poetry, and once I wrote a novel (although it was terrible).

message 194: by Theodosia of the Fathomless Hall (last edited May 28, 2013 09:29PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Theodosia of the Fathomless Hall Thank You!For some reason I decided to google 'spring fairies' while looking for a icon and found the little animated-fairy thing.
Dang.I was thinking then we wouldn't clutter up this thread,ah well.
I can respect that but I was thinking that if she saw the reviews etc it might change her trepidation

Well I have two stories on my account one from a writing club world and the other just thought up.

I have a lot more writing on paper though and the story I have made the most novel-like progress on.
*drumroll* Is about a foster child that falls/jumps into a portal and enters Albion which is full of scriveners(aka magicians)and shape-shifters etc.
Oh yeah it incorporates some myth and legend King Arthur,Camelot etc(the description sounds like Narnia but it isn't that much like it)
The first three, full stories I wrote were historical fic,but currently it's fantasy I am writing.
P.S I know today I re-read the first story I ever wrote(about a girl in the French Revolution set in diary form) urghhh. Badly written to say the least!

message 195: by [deleted user] (new)

Ooh, they sound brilliant!
Especially the Albion one. As you have probably gathered I am a fantasy nerd. Send me a copy when it's published, won't you?

message 196: by Theodosia of the Fathomless Hall (last edited May 29, 2013 11:12AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Theodosia of the Fathomless Hall Thanks! I'll probably type it out sometime and if I do I'll put it on Goodreads so I'll keep you posted.
Yeah so are my brother and I :)
P.S If you want to see the fantasy world our writing club made here's the link https://sites.google.com/site/neshewr...

message 197: by [deleted user] (new)

Ooh! That's awesome! Good job.
Due to Safety Reasons (as placed by mum), I can't say how old I am, but lets just say that I would be the right age to do that fantasy world thing too.

message 198: by [deleted user] (new)

You know, we're totally dominating this thread.

Theodosia of the Fathomless Hall Anastasia Inkyfingers wrote: "You know, we're totally dominating this thread."

Yeah We're rather derailing it :/
Thanks:)We only joined the club in September but it's been going since February of 2012, next Monday is going to be the end of the fantasy world and WC is going to pause for the summer but my brother and I are definitely going to keep writing!

There's the Javalina story on my account if you want to read it Anastasia,
If my guess is correct I'm almost the exact same age you are :)
To avoid spamming this thread we could message if that's good with you.

message 200: by [deleted user] (new)

If my guess is right I agree :D

What do you mean by messaging?
