I think Johanna is JG strongest Herione, I think she is my fav JG female leads, i really liked her, and I enjoyed reading the book as well. The scene at the beginning where she is told that her husband is dead, when she turns to the alter and prays "thank you god" is one of my fav JG scenes.
Yes, I think this one is underrated. Great characters but not really mentioned much. I loved it myself!
I really enjoyed this one. I agree, Johanna has is probably the strongest JG heroine I've read so far.
They never really said much on how bad Johanna had it. But that was a good scene. The idea of someone telling me that I was lower than dull-witted oxen would really get my goat!
Yes, she had to suffer that. And her husband beat her everywhere but her face so no one would notice. Never let her family see her. Always changed her servants so she was totally isolated. Plus the verbal abuse. She had it really bad.
Yes, I know she had it bad but unlike many books that really play up things like that, I felt there really wasn't as much description regarding it as there could have been. The author didn't over-stress it, I guess is what I mean.
No, she didn't. I guess because it was in the past, and not a part of the main story line. Margaret Mallory played up more in
Although, the heroine got on my nerves after a while.

I read the second in that series... one of those ones where I didn't know it was the second. I liked it.

I wasn't as happy with series as I was with her Return of the Highlander series. But I do like it. I have not read the third and fourth yet.
I love this book and the Audiobook with Rosalyn Landor narrating comes out on 06/25/13. I'm excited! I've recently started enjoying audiobooks and find myself in love.
It doesn't say anything. Not romance, not historical, nothing. Barely says highlander. It's too uninspiring for my tastes.
Yes. Nothing about it makes me want to pick it up and read it. Or listen, whatever. Which is too bad, because it's a great book.
This one really is one of her best. I love Gabriel AND Johanna. I don't always love both characters. The cover is deceptive. You think "blah" but inside it's "OMG I LOVE YOU!" As a matter of fact, right now I'm changing my 4 star rating to 5. Yes, it was that good.
No, Giulia, I've read it several time. But Roselyn Landor is wonderful, so I couldn't resist her narrating it.
Ah, so you enjoyed hearing someone read it to you then Lisa. I find I mostly like Garwoods H/h. I can't think of a book where I didn't like them both.
Yes, I did enjoy it. Not as much as Lion's Lady or Mercy... but that could be because the first is my favorite and the second... because of my mood? LOL!

When Lady Johanna learned that she was a widow, she vowed she would never marry again. Only sixteen, already she possessed a strength of will that impressed all who looked past her golden-haired beauty. Yet when King John demanded that she remarry and selected a bridegroom for her—it seemed she must acquiesce, until her beloved foster brother suggested she wed his friend, the handsome Scottish warrior Gabriel MacBain.
At first Johanna was shy, but as Gabriel tenderly revealed the splendid pleasures they would share, she came to suspect that she was falling in love with her gruff new husband. And it was soon apparent to the entire Highlands clan that their brusque, gallant laird had surrendered his heart completely. But now a desperate royal intrigue threatened to tear her from his side—and to destroy the man whose love meant more to her than she had ever dreamed!
