TMI by a million miles. TID sucked. I hated Tessa even more than I hate clary. Plus TID is really just TMI set in stupid ye olde tyme. Tessa is just as much as a slutty, superficial dummy as clary. Like both of them hang out with shadow hunters for a couple days and suddenly they are telling Jace and will what's up. Just coz they think they are hot.
Seriously tho. TID sux. I'm going to finish the last 2 TMI books coz I actually like Simon, Jace, Magnus, Alec and company. And even tho Jem seems cool, the story isn't as good (even tho it's the same plot: stupid mundane girl gets in trouble, saved by hot shadow hunter boy, she lusts after him, she turns out to be more than a dummy mundane girl, she "helps" with some missions due to her power not her brain, romantic tension coz hot boy finds something special about dummy girl, etc).
She shuda wrote more TMI than create an even worse version of clary.
I liked TMI better because it seemed to have deeper story lines and more character development (partially because there were more books). I was hooked on TMI from the first chapter and devoured all the books in under a week. I liked the Victorian setting of TID, but it was a bit steam punk, which I usually don't like. In this book, I didn't mind it like I normally do, but I didn't get hooked by the series until halfway maybe even 75% through the first book....by the end I ended up loving it, but it was harder to get into.
I agree with Inda. Life must suck when you have read that many books only to hate them yet keep reading.
Point taken. I have also taken several different courses in English which I highly recommend trying one. That way we will know if you are talking about a person or a letter in the alphabet. It is a pleasure to be referred to as Clary. Especially since she is also an artist like myself.
They can be. I find people to be harder. Some of the fan drawings on deviant art are really good. ;D It's interesting to see how people see the characters.
If you check out my profile pic page, I drew Jace, Magnus, and Alec. Oh and I have a horse on there too.
Just to clarify a bit. Of course I too have taken several courses on the English language. In fact, I am very well versed in it and I have been singled out throughout my educational career as an exceptional writer using it. However, as I am merely writing a few bits of opinion on what dreadful people Clary and Tessa are rather than a paper for school, I find it unnecessary to adhere to proper grammar and structure. Good day to you, ladies. ;)
True about more people seeing it here. The difference is none of them will have an effect on me getting into college. Thanks for the apology tho. I assume it was sincere and not sarcastic or anything. In which case it was appreciated but not necessary. The back and forth was kind of fun and distracted me from the boredom of waiting for my mock draft to start. :)
Well I meant no harm feelings and the comment really hadn't been aimed at you. Just in general. And I wasn't being sarcastic in my apology. I really am sorry.By the way, if you watch Robert's interviews for city of bones they are hilarious!
They're both really good stories but I prefer TID because it's so unbelievably amazing and I love how we can explore a different era it's like a taste of something new because most of the books I read are in modern era or future or some other era in the past so it's a nice change and I am a person who usually falls in love with supporting characters and I usually dislike the main girl but in this book I'm in love with all three of the main characters and all of the supporting but in tmi I'm only reading it for Simon+Isabel and Alec+Magnus and Sebastian and I don't really care about the other characters I actually rally hate jace and clary they can die for all I can care actually not clary because then my beloved Simon would be sad and the plot really bugs me because it's so strange in a good way and bad way both though I love how we can relate to all the characters and stuff but I just don't think this story compares to TID so TID no hesitation (though I love Simon out of all characters of both TID and TMI)

Agreed! CA could have been better but overall I liked TID much more. I cried for a good while after CP2.
No, CA was great!!!Not boring at all! I didn't expect Mortmane to be the bad guy! I had a long time to read another book and CA woke me up! It was fascinating! And i think I liked a little bit this bad side of Will!
This is a really hard decision but I think I have to go with TID
same here..ithink THE INFERNAL DEVICES is better..i loved he characters and thought they were really strong ones which was good..but yeah i mean moratl instruments was good too...:)
OMG I LOVE LOVE LOVE INFERNAL DEVICES!!I really thought it couldn't be better...this is my favorite book series follwed by Vampire Academy!!
I LOVE Will Herondale...his chemistry w Tessa and Jem are best in book series... love book and quote references Will and Tessa share...made me fall for Will! YUM
I read TID because recommended to me and I definitely fell in love with the series. I have not read TMI yet .... But that is definitely my next series.
I actually enjoy both of them. But I would say TID because I think the setting and the characters are more interesting. Also, I prefer Tessa over Clary (she kind of annoyed me sometimes) and I love Jem ^ ^
Ashleigh wrote: "The Mortal Instruments for sure! Everyone says that TID is better but I just don't understand the big hype of it."Agreed. It wasn't bad per se, but just not equal. I think I might should go hide before TID peeps see this...
oh this is definitely a hard one to choose between. Both are such amazing series! I'm going to have to go with TMI though, just simply because I read that series first and fell in love with it.
I completely agree with you Ashleigh! Many people in this group agree that TID is better because Tessa's feelings for Jem and Will are "real" and it's not just lust like Clary and Jace. Where are those feelings that are so real?!?! Tessa's first reaction to hearing Jem died is sleeping with Will. She seriously doesn't give a second thought after realizing he's out of the way. Obviously, everyone has their own preference. I'd just like to understand why Tessa is so much better than Clary. My personal opinion is that TMI is a better series because of both the plot and characters.
I seriously cannot choose. TMI and TID were both amazing, and I completely love the Shadowhunter Franchise. And I seriously cannot wait for the new series to come out.
Yep! Also Tessa didn't strike me as the nicest person around either way.
When I met Clary she was an innocent girl with a best friend. But when she joined the Shadowhunter world she didn't forget about him. She ran into a nest of vampires to save him! She might not be a superhero, but she's not supposed to be. She tried her best. Meanwhile Tessa was hung up over an evil brother she refused to believe would do anything bad. And she can't make up her mind over two boys. I guess Tessa was to "teenagery" for me. Not really an insult exactly, being a teenager too, but just not the perfect character fit for the book.
Anyway...before I get attacked, everyone has their own preference, this is just my opinion.
Ahhh that's hard in the infernal devices you get a VERY complicated love triangle, strange abilities, and automans. But on the other hand the mortal instruments has demented fathers and sons, more stage abilities, a lot more of Magnus Bane, and of course the lightwood siblings. Still I'm going with the infernal devices, I just love Wessa too much.
