Ladyhawk That is very sad Regina! I hate injustices like that!

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Thanks everyone. Leea, I cannot imagine your friend's loss. And I haven't heard of others dying so young, I am so sorry for the loss among your friends.

Exactly what happened to me. Didn't expect it and while my FB is a complete alias since I joined FB to join book clubs and I have very limited friends on there, (some fictional ha! ) I sure as heck don't wish the world via FB to see what I'm reading!

Like Regina says, my book choices are very personal and I CHOOSE like minded people, like those here to share my choices with! I doth protest that automatic link feature!!!

message 4406: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments I guess cause I joined before the stuff went to linking I never had that issue back to reading though

Regina, how heartbreaking. Is always so sad to hear of someone passing so young and with young children who won't have their Dad around to see them grow up.

Creative shelf name, lol!

I've read quite a few books written by R.F. Delderfield, a British author. Most were huge books. One was titled "God Is An Englishman" and was part of a trilogy. One day hubby saw the book on the living room table and said: "I see you're reading Dunderhead again"!

My deepest condolences, Regina. Very tragic.

Leea | 1437 comments Read a huge chunk of world after tonight. It's so good! Ee's writing just sweeps you into the story. I can't keep my eyes open anymore so I'll finish the last bit tomorrow. Can't wait to read everyone's reviews.

message 4411: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I'm so sorry Regina, that is so hard. It's so hard when you hear of someone passing away, especially that young. It makes me want to hug my husband.

message 4412: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Thanks, I feel bad taking any condolences since I am okay at the end of the day. You know?

I really need to get some life insurance on my hubby. I am insured to the gills, but he isn't.

So I started Devil's Punch (Corine Solomon, #4) by Ann Aguirre and am really enjoying it!

message 4413: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments Well, think of it as condolences for your grief and sadness. And also, through you by proxy to your daughter and the man's family.

I have life insurance too. my husband does now that he works for the uofm.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Regina, it's not a bad idea. No one wants to think of their spouse dying, but it's one less thing to have to worry about if they do pass.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Finished World After (Penryn & the End of Days, #2) by Susan Ee and loved it almost as much as the first.

Working on The Fiery Heart (Bloodlines, #4) by Richelle Mead and will start Open Season by Linda Howard tonight. That's the one we're starting today, right? I need to make sure that I have my copy, haha. I think I do, at least.

message 4416: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments I finished up About That Night - it was cute, but I wanted more - hoping to finish up Allegiant today - IDK, something is just missing in it...so we'll see

Leea | 1437 comments I finished World After (Penryn & the End of Days, #2) by Susan Ee and I LOVED it!!

Now on to our buddy read of Open Season by Linda Howard . Yes, Stacia we're starting today. I will start later and I cannot wait to read this. I've seen mixed reviews but the last two Linda Howard books we've read have been good.

Happy Thursday...

message 4418: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments I just finished World After (Penryn & the End of Days, #2) by Susan Ee and loved it too! AND, I love your review, Leea, with the visual aids. Wow!

So now I can't decide which to read next. I want to read Open Season by Linda Howard but I have an arc that arrived earlier in the week that I've put aside for World After. It probably won't take me long to read Open Season, huh? Can you tell I'm trying to talk myself into holding off on the arc for one more book? LOL All you experienced arc readers, what would you do?

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I've been MIA bc work has been crazy. Stopping by to say hi to everyone.

I finished World After (Penryn & the End of Days, #2) by Susan Ee and loved it.

Regina, I'm sorry to hear about your friend. Cancer is such a horrible thing.

message 4420: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Lisa, I'm the queen of putting things off. I'd just read what you want to first. :). I hVe several arcs to read too.

message 4421: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments It's my first arc and wasn't sure how quickly my review is expected after the book's arrival. I'm sure if I read Open Season, I'll be thinking of the arc and if I read the arc, I'll be thinking of Open Season LOL! I think a coin flip is in order and a promise to focus on the book in hand :D

Meanwhile, I'm listening to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1) by Stieg Larsson on my ipod while in the car or doing things, trying to multi-task. Am I the last to read this book?

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Lisa wrote: "It's my first arc and wasn't sure how quickly my review is expected after the book's arrival. "

Publishers will often tell you what they want in the forward. Some publishers would prefer your review to come out after the release date. I tend to post all my ARC reviews in the 10 days prior to release, but if you're able to write a review and save it as a draft send the completed review to the publisher as early as possible noting that it won't be published till such and such a date. Then they can use your comments in promotions if they want.

Regina,

I am so sorry to hear about this. I just lost my mom to colon cancer in April. She was 59, 57 when diagnosed. I am so startled to hear how quick he passed after his diagnosis. At least for my mom, there was a mutation in the cancerous genes that made them more aggressive than what they previously were. After that point, her deterioration was rapid. I am thinking his case was extremely aggressive. What a sad , sad thing, so young and with children. We can only pray for the family and hope that they are able to deal in the best way possible. So hard. :( I am sending positive thoughts your way and I hope that you are able to find some comfort through the tragedy.

Oh, I didn't know it was your first arc... I normally try to read and review the book before it's released. I also don't post my review too early.

I somehow missed this post. Laura, i'm so heartbroken to hear about your mom. How are you doing?

message 4435: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments I liked Divergent and even Insurgent to an extent...but Allegient is like a mish-mash...so many sides fighting each other, and this side against this, whereas the other is against this, and then four others are fighting each other and I can't keep them straight

message 4436: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished reading The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion and Johnny's Girl by Paige Toon . I'm not sure what to read next. How to books compare after finishing such a fantastic book (World After)?

message 4437: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I'm reading Dark Wolf Running arc. It's really good! I'm about half way done, makes me want to start with the first book on the series

message 4438: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Kay it is hard to move past the amazingness of World After. For several weeks after I finished it I couldn't move on. :)

message 4439: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments You almost need a palate cleanser after finishing World After so the book that's read next doesn't suffer in ratings or reviews.

message 4440: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I just started Becoming Alpha which is pretty good so far and The World After but it's still very early.

Me, TOO! I started my new job this week, and I was busy with family stuff and prepping for work last week. My sister's developed Bell's Palsy from her accident now... UGH!

Regina - I'm so sorry about your doctor friend. It's always sad and shocking to lose someone, especially someone young and vibrant with a family.

I've got a lot of reading to catch up on and a lot of reviews to do.

Lisa - I'm super behind on my Netgalley reviews. Probably a bunch of the books are not only released but archived now, too. Oh well.

Started World After (Penryn & the End of Days, #2) by Susan Ee this morning. Headed to see "Catching Fire" this afternoon. And hope to start Linda Howard's Open Season by Linda Howard before the weekend's out.

I've been so exhausted after work, and with the time change and it being dark when I get up and dark when I drive home from work... I haven't been able to do more than eat and get ready for the next day.

BUT... has anyone read any of the Mayan god in the "Accidentally Yours" series by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff? Like Accidentally in Love with...A God? (Accidentally Yours, #1) by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff I got it either free or as a 99-cent Kindle book. It's wacky and kind of fun. I'd never thought much about Mayan gods before.

Catching up with all the posts. Sounds like I need to add a couple of authors to my TBR mountain.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments We're heading to Catching Fire this afternoon. We wanted to go last night but our sitter fell through.

Finished Open Season by Linda Howard and No Good Duke Goes Unpunished (The Rules of Scoundrels, #3) by Sarah MacLean and both were enjoyable enough, but very middle of the road 3 star.

Started Pawn (The Blackcoat Rebellion, #1) by Aimee Carter

message 4443: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I started and finished, Dark Wolf Running (Bloodrunners, #5) by Rhyannon Byrd . The romance was hot but the plot and story was very sub par. Now i'm going to start How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #1) by Molly Harper . I need funny right now!

message 4444: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I DNF Animate Me by Ruth Clampett . It was too long, blah, and amateurish.

message 4447: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I kind of think The World After is begging to be compared to Daughter of Smoke and Bone. It's pretty good, but I think Laini Taylor does everything better.

Lori, glad to see you back but can understand how work can get in the way! Are you liking your new job?

So sorry to hear about your sister's medical set-back. Can't remember if you said the other driver had insurance or not? Sure hope that she gets a huge settlement from either the insurance company or takes him to court.

Leea | 1437 comments I'm really enjoying How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #1) by Molly Harper . I'm laughing so hard at Mo's parents... So much like mine, it's crazy! I've had some of these same conversations with my mom and dad...

"You shop at Wal-Mart?" Mom screeched... "Yes," I said. "Now you know my secret shame."
