Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I will start Angelfall tomorrow night. I'm excited too since it's been a couple years since I've read it. I hope it will be almost like reading it for the first time.

Crystal Navarro (kanarenee) I was wondering when we were starting the Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee reread. Got my Kindle ready!

I am also currently working on my reread of Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins in preparation for the movie release. Looks like November is stacking up to be a month of re-reads!

message 4259: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Today Crystal :)

message 4260: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Having trouble getting through Pure (Covenant, #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout so switched over to reading a fun HR When She Was Wicked (Honeycote, #1) by Anne Barton . Not brilliant but it had all the elements I enjoy - wit, steam, misfit sisters. All good and thoroughly enjoyable to read.

message 4261: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Misfit sisters? I never thought of that as a category but that does sound fun. :)

message 4262: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Stacia how are you liking Devil's Reprise?

How is the read of Angelfall coming?

I just finished Tempting Danger (World of the Lupi, #1) by Eileen Wilks and loved it, I can't wait to read the next one.

I also just finished listening to Horde (Razorland, #3) by Ann Aguirre which was a good ending to the trilogy.

I am listening to The Devil's Metal (Devils, #1) by Karina Halle -- the audio took a little bit of time to get into as the voice is very young, but the heroine is really young too.

And I am reading How To Run With A Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #3) by Molly Harper which has me laughing already. I love this series.

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Oh I also finished Glitterland (Glitterland, #1) by Alexis Hall

message 4265: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I haven't for months Dee, I completely get it. Combination of being so busy that I can't use the 5 minutes free time I get a day to write a review and then lack of motivation. But I did do 2 yesterday which was an amazing thing!

I'm liking Devil's Reprise better than the first book so far. The first one had some hiccups or something, but maybe I just like being in Sage's head better. Who knows?

message 4269: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments i've had tempting danger languishing on Mt TBR for at least 3 years, maybe I should get to it...lol

message 4270: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I really liked it. It is sort of heavy and complex for a first book in an urban fantasy series, I am not saying this right but when there was humor it was very dry. There are no explanations or definitions offered -- the reader just has to pick them up. And it is a longer book than many UFs. I am not a fan of police investigation UFs, although I have exceptions that I like. I am also not a fan of the fated to be mated storylines. Both of these are present in Tempting Danger and I still enjoyed it!

If you are sick of sarcastic spit fire UF heroines whom everyone seems to hate, then this book might be the answer to that. But like I said, it isn't perfect I just really enjoyed this story.

message 4271: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished No Good Duke Goes Unpunished (The Rules of Scoundrels, #3) by Sarah MacLean . It's not her best but enjoyable enough.

I also started our re-read of Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee and I'm loving it!! I have missed these characters.

message 4272: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I was surprised at how much I loved Angelfall all over again when doing my re-read.

message 4273: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments thanks Regina! I decided to go historical with my next read and do The Dragon and the Pearl - need a book set in the Far East for a challenge and my library had this one for download (and I can't find the print copy of the book I was going to read because its lost in the piles!)

message 4274: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I just love her writing style, Regina. It's really nice how she describes the places in the Bay Area during the World Before and After. I can picture it so well and it's even more awesome because I have driven past the "Penryn Exit" whenever I drove up north.

message 4275: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments I need to read Angelfall as well...another book that has been languising on Mt TBR...I have this challenge to finish by Friday, then i'll have some freedom...haha

message 4276: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments So cool. I have no image of any of it. I love when books I am reading are set in places that I know.

message 4277: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Yes Dee. You do. No question! Read it soon! I enjoyed the audio (I re-read by listening to it - so read the first time and listened the second).

message 4278: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments haha, thanks Regina! too many damn books, too little time!!

message 4279: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Get on it, Dee! LOL

Regina...I love it too. Especially if an author captures it truthfully.

message 4280: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments aye aye!! lol!!

message 4281: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments LOL!!

Its so bad when an author doesn't. I think the classic bad take is by Jim Butcher in his first 2-3 books of the Dresden Files. By the 4th book it appears his editor forced him to take a trip to Chicago or at the very least by a map of the city.

message 4282: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) A little behind... starting Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee today.

Dee, do you like the Tang Dynasty series by Jeannie Lin? Thinking you must if you're re-reading the 2nd book, The Dragon and the Pearl (Tang Dynasty, #2) by Jeannie Lin . I'll check out the series - I like historical Chinese fiction.

message 4283: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments i actualy haven't read Jennie Lin before Lori - I needed a book set in the Far East for a challenge - and this popped up when I searched china/romance in my library catelogue...lol

I forgot to look for that exit while down in San Jose last June! It's in the San Jose area, right?

I'm reading The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty and hoping to finish tonight in time for an author's discussion that's taking place tomorrow. I'm really liking it, as much as I did her What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty . Her writing makes the reader, or at least me, what would you do in that person's place or in those situations. She comes up with some pretty outrageous situations too, that choices can be a little tricky. More so, in The Husband's Secret. I can't wait to see how the author resolves it. So it may be a late night reading. Will have to skip the whisky.

I grew up in that area. I totally agree with you Kay. It's fun picturing SF in the book.

message 4286: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Lisa, it's actually north of the bay area...I think past Sacramento off of I-80. I always see it on our way to & from Reno.

message 4287: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Penryn is north of Sacramento past Rocklin in Placer County, yep up I-80. It's beautiful with rolling hills, but it's a very small town. We looked at a few houses in Penryn but didn't buy them.

I finished Angelfall... Wish I could give it another 5 stars. Now i'm beyond excited to read World After (Penryn & the End of Days, #2) by Susan Ee . So who want's to read it the moment it's out with me? :)

message 4288: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Wow, fast reader. I've been feeling like crap all day and didn't get much time to read. I am down to read World After on release day. There's no need to twist my arm.

message 4289: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I cannot wait for you all to read it!!!! I loved it!

message 4290: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments Geez, I don't know why I thought that Penryn was near San Jose. Got my Calif. geography all mixed up :) Thanks Kay and Leea for clearing that up for me.

I can't wait for World After!! Need to do another reread of Angelfall quickly.

message 4291: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments No worries Lisa, it's such a small blip on the map. Ha! I just passed the exit all my life going up to my dads house in Auburn.

I started reading Highland Master (Murray Family, #19) by Hannah Howell

message 4292: by Laura (new)

Laura | 15 comments Just finished Black Ice (Ice, #1) by Anne Stuart , so different!

message 4293: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Hey Laura! I need to read that next. What did you think?

message 4294: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Finished Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee last night - had to break it into 2 parts, interrupted by a night out. Almost wish I'd changed the plans for dinner & a movie - LOL! But I needed that break.

Glad book 2 World After (Penryn & the End of Days, #2) by Susan Ee is out soon... although this is more than a 2-book series, right? Still processing and unsure about this series. Penryn is such an interesting name.

Just got the latest Preston & Child Pendgerast book last night, White Fire (Pendergast, #13) by Douglas Preston . This one features Corrie, Pendergast's protegee from Still Life With Crows (Pendergast, #4) by Douglas Preston . She made a brief appearance in the last major Pendergast novel, "Two Graves". But I'm really glad she's featured in this one. Hoping it's a good book.

message 4295: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments I'm looking to cross off some challenge reads and looking for a storyline that includes a prostitute so I'm looking thru the GR list of books and Poughkeepsie (Poughkeepsie, #1) by Debra Anastasia comes up and it looks good but I'm not seeing any mention of a prostitute. Anybody who has read it? Otherwise, I may go with a Lisa Kleypas Someone to Watch Over Me (Bow Street Runners, #1) by Lisa Kleypas

message 4296: by Leea, Escape Artist (last edited Nov 12, 2013 04:10PM) (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I read Poughkeepsie a few years ago and loved it. There is no Prostitutes or at least not one that I remember. Ha!

message 4297: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments LMAO, I don't remember any prostitutes either.

message 4298: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments I'm trying to think of a book that works but no ideas right now

message 4299: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments Glad I asked. Guess you can't totally rely on those lists. But it still looks like a good book so I'll want to read it sometime but later. Thanks all for your help :)

Will be starting A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks to fill the North Carolina part of the same challenge - that Outlander scavenger hunt one. Then I'll reread Angelfall to prep for World After!

message 4300: by Laura (new)

Laura | 15 comments Leea wrote: "Hey Laura! I need to read that next. What did you think?"

Hey Leea!!! It was good! A little slower at the beginning and then it's lots of action. Definitely a thriller. I would say it's more focused on the suspense aspect than on the romance. For me, it was a refreshing read, just something different than what I have been reading lately.
