Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Just wanna say...How (not) to Kiss a Toad was really, really bad.
I just started On What Grounds which is a sort of rec from Lisa Kay...a minor deity in the Goodreads world.

On What Grounds (Coffeehouse Mystery, #1) by Cleo Coyle

message 352: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished What Price Paradise by Katherine Allred and I didn't really like it. I think this author's storytelling is just not for me.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I finished Wicked as They Come (Blud, #1) by Delilah S. Dawson and really enjoyed it. I can't even nail down a genre but it's written in PNR format (one couple per book and some steam), but reads more like high fantasy with a slight nod to steampunk. Vampire bunnies, clockwork guardian snakes and crazy carnies...it's all very surreal.

Starting Belonging (Temptation, #2) by Karen Ann Hopkins and I'm liking it so far.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments That sounds super interesting! I'm checking that one out!

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I finished Sing My Name by Ellen O'Connell . I loved he beginning 2/3 but thought the last third dragged and should have been edited out.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I'm reading Extreme Exposure (I-Team, #1) by Pamela Clare .

Samantha | 419 comments Let me know what you think of that, Angie.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments He can build a bed, Angie. Is it sad that this is what I remember about the book?

message 359: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments LMAO!!!!! I remember loving the first half of the book and being bored out of my mind and skimming the last 1/2 of the book.

I don't like perfect heroes. Give me a scared messed up guy with good intentions any day.

message 360: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments Samantha - I'll let you know. :)

Stacia - I'm not sure if that's sad or not. I'm not finished yet. LOL

I'm only a quarter of the way through, so I may change my mind, but it's clear to me that PC's forte is a historical setting. I think her attention to detail is nice in the historical setting, because I wasn't there and I don't know what it was like. But it's not as beneficial in contemps, because I can picture a lot of the stuff for myself. Does that make any sense?

message 361: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Angie it does make sense.

Exactly why I want to hear your thoughts. That was my first book by her. I wonder would I like her historicals more.

Her historicals are among some of the best books I've read. The first one in the MacKinnon's Rangers series, Surrender (MacKinnon's Rangers, #1) by Pamela Clare , is my favorite by her.

This book does not seem to be picking up for me. I will at least read the second one in the series because I hate to judge a series by one book.

Except Gabriel's Inferno. I will never be able to read the second book in that series. LOL

and we had some pretty interesting discussions about PC's contemps ;)

message 365: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 419 comments Haha. I read the first and second book in this series. Not sure if want to try again. LOL.

Haha. I felt the same way about Gabriel's Inferno and then I read book 2. Better...much better.

message 366: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 419 comments We sure did, Dee.

message 367: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I still need to read PC's Contemporaries.

I haven't read much this weekend, it's been busy but fun.

I'm about 38% into Dead Sky Morning (Experiment in Terror, #3) by Karina Halle and they're (view spoiler)

message 368: by Crystal (new)

Crystal Navarro (kanarenee) Just finished The Departed (MacKinnon Curse, #3) by J.A. Templeton . Ahh, guilty pleasures. LOL

message 369: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) I haven't read any of Pamela Clare's contemporary books, either. It's mainly the I-Team series, right? I just bought the 1st one. I wonder if it's like Maya Banks' KGI series? IMO, MB's KGI series is OK; I wasn't thrilled with book 1 (found it cheesy and schmaltzy with a too perfect heroine). I haven't been able to read book 2 yet because of it.

I'm trying to finish up City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments, #2) by Cassandra Clare , but it's been a tough haul. I haven't been feeling quite like myself lately, so it's been tough to read. Maybe it's just the hotter weather? I had to turn on the A/C this weekend with 90+ degrees going on. And I've been wanting to be out and about in the sunshine.

Maybe it's just work deadlines. In the middle of the end of a software release cycle - getting stuff ready for reviewers and testing and making updates based on edits and reviews.

Anyway, being much slower in my reading these days!

message 370: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Lori I hear you. Real life gets in the way.

That is disappointing about the KGI series. I felt that way about Shannon K Butcher's romantic suspense sereis too. I read the first two in the I-Team series and never wanted to go on.

message 371: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments It's going to be hard finding Romantic Suspense series after Troubleshooters, i'm still in shock we finished it already.

I'm not 70% into Dead Sky Morning and holy spooky batman... Wow! Now if only we could get a kiss.

message 372: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Apr 28, 2013 10:59PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I need to pinch myself because I managed to read two good books in a row. It seems like that hardly happens anymore.

Belonging (Temptation, #2) by Karen Ann Hopkins ended up being a lot better than I was expecting. The first book was a cute romance but sort of bordering sappy/clingy. This book changed the entire game and ended up with a bit of a suspense element at the end, which surprised me. Plus, we got more insight into the Amish daily life, which I always like reading about.

message 373: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Is it steamy Stacia?

Leea, I have been looking for a long time and haven't found anything like it.

I am really enjoying Headed for Trouble (Troubleshooters #16.5) by Suzanne Brockmann -- many of the stories I have already read. I am loving Arlene's story. It is so moving.

Yep, that book's something! It's not my fav of the group, though. So I can't wait to discuss it with those of you reading or who have read book 3. It's creepy, but just so... off to me. Can't wait to hear what ya'll think.

I finished City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments, #2) by Cassandra Clare last night. I liked the book, but... Can't describe it just yet. So dark and intense. And I'm with Wendy - (view spoiler)

Started into Unleashed (Ross Siblings, #1) by Cherrie Lynn , because as I've said before, when I'm in a slump a good hot, steamy romance can usually pull me out of it.

message 376: by Ladyhawk (last edited Apr 29, 2013 10:28AM) (new)

Ladyhawk Dead Sky Morning (Experiment in Terror, #3) by Karina Halle looking forward to some discussion on this one too. I've read this more recently and remember more particulars.
I actually really liked it!! And so far the most intense and scary for me. I'm almost done with #4. Lying Season (Experiment in Terror, #4) by Karina Halle

and so far (view spoiler)

2/3 through City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments, #3) by Cassandra Clare . Clary (view spoiler)

Ladyhawk - I want to chat about book 4 with you (EiT), but I need you to accept my friend request, so we can Inbox.... But, in the meantime, (view spoiler)

I want to start City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments, #3) by Cassandra Clare , but... that will be another day or 2.

There is sex but it's not detailed. I'd probably be weirded out though by reading detailed sex scenes, given the story setting.

message 381: by Crystal (new)

Crystal Navarro (kanarenee) @Lori: I need to start City of Glass as well. I just need to get the book first. I also need to finish TID series, which is my preference over TMI.

I am going to start reading Storm (Elemental, #1) by Brigid Kemmerer today. I figure I have put that one off long enough.

I loved that book... I can't believe we're done. I miss the Troubleshooters team.

I agree Stacia. I loved how the story unfolded. Some really satisfying reveals!!
I've read Clockwork Angel already, believe it or not! Lol! Wendy suggested I read in order of publication as not to read reveals out of order and Jen another order. I'll figure it out!!

Lori, yes! Jenn is (view spoiler)

Leea | 1437 comments I finished Dead Sky Morning (Experiment in Terror, #3) by Karina Halle and this series gets better and better... Next up book 4, Lying Season (Experiment in Terror, #4) by Karina Halle , I can't help myself.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Finished Wicked as She Wants (Blud, #2) by Delilah S. Dawson and it wasn't as funny as the first book (although there were still a few good zingers) but it was more intense, which made it feel fresh and different.

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments Reading Rogue Rider (Lords of Deliverance, #4 ) by Larissa Ione . I do not like this cover. The book describes Reseph as having platinum blonde hair and ice blue eyes. Does it look like this guy fits the bill...I think not.

message 390: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) I did start City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments, #3) by Cassandra Clare last night. I already like it better than the 2nd book - maybe because it didn't start out so gloom & doom. I know "stuff" is happening, but maybe being in another location and with some new people is helping?

Ladyhawk, sorry that my invite didn't go thru. Who knows? I'll Inbox you so we can discuss...

Leea - Dead Sky Morning (Experiment in Terror, #3) by Karina Halle is probably my least favorite book in the series. I'll pop over to that thread and ask some questions that bug me. As I told Ladyhawk, I have a love-hate relationship with Lying Season (Experiment in Terror, #4) by Karina Halle . It's a great book, but wham!

It drives me nuts when the cover doesn't match the book!

message 393: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments I know right! What is the point of describing a character if you aren't going to put his likeness on the cover.

message 394: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Yeah, that really bugs me. And it happens more often than you'd think!

message 395: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments Lori McD wrote: "Yeah, that really bugs me. And it happens more often than you'd think!"

Unfortunately that is the truth. Do they pick covers before they write the books or what? Otherwise, there is no excuse for the misrepresentation.

message 396: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments Yes. And I'm assuming the book is written when the cover is chosen, so it's not like the features are a surprise. LOL

One of my biggest pet peeves are when the tattoos on the cover do not match the tattoos on the character. That just galls me. LOL

message 397: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments Ha ha Angie! I feel the same way.

message 398: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished reading Wanderlust by Skye Warren this morning. It's a dark erotica and twisted in so many ways.

Not sure what to read next but off to search...

message 399: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) OK, I have to confess... I had to skip ahead towards the end of City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments, #3) by Cassandra Clare , because I had *to know*!!!! I suspected something at about 1/3rd of the way in, and I was RIGHT! And I'm so glad! It makes reading this book so much better!
