Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I'm up for a reread of Angelfall too.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments It's been on my Kindle forever. I don't know why I haven't read it yet.

message 3755: by Crystal (new)

Crystal Navarro (kanarenee) If I have time I'll hop in on the Angelfall reread! I'm planning on rereading Catching Fire before the movie next month as well, and I'll be strapping on my big girl panties and cracking into Outlander...it will be an exciting month.

message 3756: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Sounds like the perfect kind of buddy read - how fun!!

message 3757: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Reading Close Enough to Touch (Jackson, #1) by Victoria Dahl A little long in parts but overall a lot of fun!

message 3758: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I'm reading How to Love by Katie Cotugno

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Tellulah wrote: "Reading Close Enough to Touch (Jackson, #1) by Victoria Dahl A little long in parts but overall a lot of fun!"

I've been meaning to try out something else by Dahl. The one book I read of hers was hilarious.

Finished Dying Is My Business by Nicholas Kaufmann and it was a pretty good UF for a male-driven, grittier style. It's definitely not a romancey book at all but I liked it. My only complaint is that there were too many different types of supernatural things going on (although I appreciate gargoyles and dragons as much as the next person, haha).

Starting Bold Tricks (The Artists Trilogy, #3) by Karina Halle

message 3760: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I can't wait to see what you think of Bold Tricks! I am afraid to start it, but the last one did live up to my expectations. :)

So I woke up covered in pee from my 5 year old at 2:30 am and I couldn't go back to sleep. So I read Rhythm and Bluegrass (Bluegrass, #2) by Molly Harper and it was good fun - and sweet. I wish it had more sex though, but that is not Harper's style.

I started Driving Her Wild (Wilinski's #3) by Meg Maguire and I am loving it. Each one in this series gets better.

message 3761: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments An awful way to wakeup, Regina :( Did the reading help you fall back to sleep?

Hey, I'd like to join in that Angelfall read! I've already read it twice but still need a refresher before the next is released.

I'm reading Linda Howard's Son of the Morning by Linda Howard - a buddy read and it's pretty good.

message 3762: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Haha...Regina...getting pee'd on sounds familiar.

How does the week of November 10th work for everyone to start Angelfall?

message 3763: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) *raising hand* I have Angelfall and haven't read it, either. Can I join in the November buddy read?

Regina, that series looks good, and you've given me a lot of great recs, so... I picked up Making Him Sweat (Harlequin Blaze #740) by Meg Maguire and Taking Him Down (Wilinski's #2) by Meg Maguire . Since this series is Harlequin, and I've only been turned down by them at Netgalley EVERY TIME, I'll read those 2 first. I if I like them (which I'm sure I will), I'll purchase or borrow Driving Her Wild (Wilinski's #3) by Meg Maguire when it comes out.

I have TOO MANY TBR BOOKS! I have a stack of hard copies (still) and a stack at Netgalley I have to read and review.

I find myself with Reading ADD these days... too many books, I guess. I keep picking one up, reading a bit, and then putting it down. Partly, I think, because the books are disappointing me.

For example, Revealing Us (Inside Out, #3) by Lisa Renee Jones - it took me ONE MONTH to get through this book, and sorry to say, I was sorely disappointed, ticked, and resentful when I finally finished it yesterday.

message 3764: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Oh that sucks Regina... At least you got some reading in :)

Dahl, keep meaning to read another book by her but I haven't found a moment to.

message 3765: by Crystal (new)

Crystal Navarro (kanarenee) Looks like we might have to start a 'Not-quite-romance' group read lol

message 3766: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I snuck in reading today at work so I finished How to Love by Katie Cotugno . It was okay.

I'm off to search for something else to read. Sucks that most of the books I've been reading have been around 3ish stars.

It works for me.

message 3769: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Hehe...Angie. I'm still thinking about that one. Just because it's a trilogy and I hate waiting for books that haven't been released yet.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments The 10th is fine.

Oh, yeah. And the last one isn't coming out until November 21st. I certainly understand that. LOL

message 3772: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Okay, great! we'll start Angelfall on Nov 10th. I also created a thread under buddy reads so we'll have somewhere to discuss it.

message 3773: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments So I read Driving Her Wild (Wilinski's #3) by Meg Maguire yesterday and I loved it. It has a touch of Willing Victim in terms of the sex -- but more from the heroine wanting to go there. It is so good. I would say that this series started off as just a fun to read romance with really good sex scenes. But with each installment it got strong, and this is the strongest. There were parts in 1 and 2 that I skimmed, but Maguire got stronger at writing the "in between" story advancement scenes. It can be read as a stand alone. I am sorry it is over!

I am starting Shattered Bond (Joe Bashir #2) by Sophie Littlefield -- I loved the first in this series and I really enjoyed the first in this series Blood Bond by Sophie Littlefield

message 3775: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I am 25% into Bound by Night (MoonBound Clan Vampires, #1) by Larissa Ione . This is my first read from this author. The plot in this book is so interesting to me.

message 3776: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I bet you would love her first series, it is fun, sexy and strong -- it is PNR, so the couples do change every book (I remember you saying you would prefer to not have that):

Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, #1) by Larissa Ione Desire Unchained (Demonica, #2) by Larissa Ione Passion Unleashed (Demonica, #3) by Larissa Ione Ecstasy Unveiled (Demonica, #4) by Larissa Ione Sin Undone (Demonica, #5) by Larissa Ione

I don't mind if it's a new couple every book, I just don't like it when it's the same heroine with a new hero every book. I tend to get attached. LOL

I will definitely take a look at these. Thanks, Regina!

Do we know if Bold Tricks is the last book? I sort of got that impression.

message 3779: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments This completes it!

message 3780: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Thanks, that's what I thought :)

Starting Bold Tricks now... It's snowing in Squaw Valley (we're on vacation) so I hope to get a lot of reading done today. Since we can't go hiking or play outside.

message 3781: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments Is there enough to snow-shoe, Leea? It had snowed here at home while we were in Calif. but hadn't stuck. Glad I missed it! But it had stuck on the higher elevations. While driving over the pass coming home, yep, snow. Early winter? Eek!

I had just finished Howard's Son of the Morning by Linda Howard last night and can't wait to read another Howard book but will pace myself. Plus, I have other books queued up, so... I've started What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty and liking the author's style of writing so far. It starts with Alice falling during a spin class, suffering a concussion and memory loss. So far, she's just figuring out that she's missing the last 10 years of her life, thinking she's still 29 yrs old. And pregnant.

Can't wait for Bold Tricks :D

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments We'll have to decide which Howard book to read in November soon. :)

message 3783: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments Yeah. Post nominations or suggestions on that thread?

message 3784: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Written in Red (The Others, #1) by Anne Bishop is so good. It is a slow book, but not slow in a bad way just a really well developed story. Great blend of urban fantasy, fantasy, shifters, vamps and others. I love it. It is going to be hard to wait until spring 2014 for the next one. For those that have read Anne Bishop's other series, this is nothing like it.

I loved the Black Jewels trilogy, so even though this sounds nothing like it, still excited to give it a shot. Thanks for the heads up on it, Regina!

I agree! I really liked her Demonica series. I actually prefer that over Bound by Night.

I finished a short book last night... Take What You Want by Jeanette Grey which was really fun and sexy.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments Written in Red does sound good. That's going to have to be a library read for me, though, because I can't bring myself to pay $10.00 for an author I've never read before.

I will get to the Bound by Night series. I just wanted to try the author out to see if I liked her. So far, so good. I've never read this sort of plot line before. I love it when an author comes up with a fresh concept!

message 3790: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I will say that the majority of the negative reviews have the same two issues with Written in Red -- although the majority of the reviews are 4-5 stars. The negative reviews seems to be bothered that the supes are true monsters and eat people (nothing romantic about them at all) and the story is slow building b/c it focuses on the heroine's daily activities and her job -- which I love that stuff. So if those are triggers for anyone, you won't like it.

message 3791: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Written in Red looks interesting. The synopsis reminds me a little of No Peace for the Damned by Megan Powell.

message 3792: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Regina wrote: "and the story is slow building b/c it focuses on the heroine's daily activities and her job"

hmmm...are we talking infodump or info-dense? I hate infodumps but I can live with a story that's dense so long as it's interesting.

message 3793: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments No info dumps. And there majority of reviewers do love it. I was just reading the negative ones today. :).

message 3794: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I don't mind the day to day. Some authors can keep it simple but still make it interesting. Ellen O'Connell is one who can do that, and I think Tracey Garvis-Graves did it with Covet.

message 3795: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Lisa, the snow didn't stick. But the boys enjoyed seeing it coming down. It's getting colder here and we may get more snow tonight.

Read the first chapter of Bold Tricks (The Artists Trilogy, #3) by Karina Halle and wow - non-stop action already. I really cannot wait to see how this trilogy ends, i'm kind of glad it's ending because there is so much action I couldn't take another book. Ha!

Written in Red- another book I want to read. My list is really growing this week.

Oh, excited to which LH book the group picks next to read. Off to check...

Me neither. I can think of books that do it well -- the earlier Sookie books, Harris's other series (Lily Bard), Little House on the Prairie, Ellen O'Connell is a great example. I still need to read Covet!!

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Question for Kindle owners...I'm planning on buying the new paperwhite soon. Should I consider purchasing the 2 year warranty with the accidental protection?

message 3799: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Kay wrote: "Question for Kindle owners...I'm planning on buying the new paperwhite soon. Should I consider purchasing the 2 year warranty with the accidental protection?"

I think it depends on the cost of the protection v. replacement. Back when I bought my first kindle, it was over $300 -- so I bought the warranty. But now (if you aren't buying one of the expensive tablets) the price is low enough to justify not buying the 2 year warranty. Also keep in mind Amazon offers a one year warranty automatically and they are pretty great about replacement. I have had problems (for example stepping on my kindle) in the 2nd year -- and I got another free one. :) But again, that is when the pricing was a lot different.
