message 3557: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Congrats, Kay!

I've been in a reading frenzy, trying to get through ebooks and hard backs before I have to return them to the library.

Working through Stella in A Bad Day for Scandal (Bad Day, #3) by Sophie Littlefield and should finish tonight.

Starting another Linda Howard book for a Group-Buddy Read, Son of the Morning by Linda Howard .

Also reading Victoria Roberts' 3rd book in the Bad Boys of the Highlands series, To Wed a Wicked Highlander (Bad Boys of the Highlands, #3) by Victoria Roberts . It's a Netgalley book, but I think that it's already been published. I am way behind in my Netgalley reviews/feedback. And I see that they've just changed the format of things there...

I'm going Son of the Morning

Lisa | 383 comments Congrats Kay on your Moderator position :D

@Lori - I was mistaken and found that my library has book #3 of the Sorry books so will check out A Bad Day for Scandal (Bad Day, #3) by Sophie Littlefield when I get back from vacation. Something to look forward to when it's back to the ol' grind.

message 3560: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Have fun on vacation Lisa :) Where did you go?

message 3561: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments We'll spend a day in Seattle before flying down to So. Calif. where we usually go, Carlsbad, staying by the beach :D We have some friends meeting us there who live further north in Calif. so it should be LOTS of fun! Can't wait for some warmer weather. It's rainy and cold here in Wash. Definitely feels like autumn. Figures. Today is Leavenworth's kick-off to their annual Autumn Leaf Festival.

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I just finished A Skeleton in the Family and Cassie Scot: ParaNormal Detective...both were average reads which had magical ratings. 4.64 Stars for A Skeleton... and 4.36 Stars for Cassie Scot....

I was looking at the average rating of some of the people who read the books and a lot of them were well above 4.5 Stars...there were a few 4.8s and 4.9s and one average rating of 5 Stars. Why bother rating if every book you read is going to get 5 Stars? I wish they would realize that when they rate a book 5 Stars they are telling people to spend their hard earned money and buy it.
Not saying people who rate high are a problem....but when a lot of people rate a 3 Star book 5 Stars I start to wonder what's going on.

Have a great time Lisa. Carlsbad is not far from me. I live about 20 miles east of Los Angeles.

Lisa | 383 comments @Marcella - Thanks! You're not far from where we go. I bet it's even warmer where you live! Lucky. Well, except maybe for summers LOL. Peggy Z lives verra close to where we visit twice a year and we met here at GR and now get together whenever I'm down in Calif :D I'm trying to remember which book I've recently read that takes place in Julian and other So. Calif. locations. It'll come to me...

August was a nightmare weather wise. We were in the upper 90s to low 100s for a month with humidity. I was really considering moving to Alaska. No joke!

Not really sure whether you'd like it, but I'm enjoying Color My Horse...sort of romantic suspense lite with horses.

Carlsbad is one of our favorite places to vacation, I LOVE the outlets there... We're going next summer. Can't wait!

message 3572: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments I also like the outlets in Carlsbad. I haven't been there in a while. The drive is sooooo boring. Ha ha!

message 3573: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments @Leea - I know...the outlets! Sometimes I go a bit crazy shoe shopping *gasp* and have to UPS them home. I like how centrally located Carlsbad is - to all the great beach towns, beaches, near San Diego and Los Angeles. Dini's, in our timeshare building has Guinness on tap and knows my husband enough to start building him one as soon as he walks thru the door LOL.

@Marcella - if it gets too cool at the beach, I'll mosey on over to your area and msg you :D

Seattle has a Premium Outlet just like Carlsbad's but I haven't been to it yet. And it's about a 3 hr drive, one way. After all that shopping, who has energy to drive 3 hrs back home? Would need some energy drinks LOL. Or spend the night in a hotel with sauna!

You're just like my husband... Add some trail running shoes, waterproof trail running shoes and some five finger shoes and that's about as many as he has. I have a lot too... Still love my Saucany's!

Ian - woman love shoes... That and handbags :)

Lisa, we stayed at a timeshare a few years ago that had a brewery on site. That was so fun! We're staying in the new Hilton resort out there. We got some invitation to do a tour in hopes we buy their timeshare.

message 3585: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments @Leea - FUN! I'll have to check out the new Hilton. Our timeshare is at The Tamarack, across the street from the beach. We really like it there.

Yes, shoes and handbags! I keep buying sandals while in Calif. and our summers are so short that it's ridiculous but I can't help myself.

I think it's all about color coordination. Also not all shoes go with every outfit. Women are complicated like that.

Leea | 1437 comments Does anyone have a pair of Toms? I'm wondering if they're worth all the hype?

I'm in a HUGE reading slump. How have I lost the desire to read, I must be ill?

So excited, the boys are out of school for two weeks!! I have so much fun stuff planned for them.

I'm reading an ARC... Sweet (True, #2) by Erin McCarthy .

Lisa | 383 comments Thanks Kay. I'm headed out the door to rainy Seattle. It's even raining here and it's parade day (festival weekend in der Bavarian Village). I'll be wearing my pretty black with purple highlights Montrail Goretex athletic shoes. But the sandals are ready and waiting in my bag!

Have a fun 2 weeks with the boys, Leea!

Leea | 1437 comments See we're leaving the warm valley and headed up to Tahoe, Squaw Valley for some colder weather. Then it's apple season here, so the boys are itching to head up to apple hill for the day. I'm excited for some apple donuts :) They're just sinful.

I'm still slowly reading Son of the Morning by Linda Howard , not making much progress...

I don't have a pair of Toms but know people who do that love them. As much as I like what the company does I refuse to pay over $50 for those shoes.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Aw, too bad you missed the link Leea put in Powder Room a while back. I think she had a site that had a bunch of them for like 15 or 20 bucks as a special sale, but I'm sure it's done now.

I haven't bought shoes in long time. Still wearing my flip flops into the ground, haha. They're so comfortable!

I love their apple donuts.

No worries. I didn't get a chance to start yet. Any free time I've had has gone to fixing my BL stuff. Maybe I will start tonight.

Leea | 1437 comments That website was in the UK, for the Toms and shipping was $17... I bought a pair of Bobs (toms knock offs) from Kohls for $9 and I had a 30% off coupon. Score!!

Yeah, I'll have time to read more tomorrow. We're off on a double date with our oldest friends. The last time we had a double date with then was at least 10 years ago. Normally we just BBQ and the all our boys run wild. Wine tasting and the gun range. very odd date. Guess what part the ladies picked? haha!

I hope everyone is having a fantastic saturday. It's beautiful here in N. Cali. 80's and sunny!!
