It is hard to take a break from her books. Her men are too hot to leave for too long. Ha ha!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Post 246 : College-age.

Basically, it's young adults out of high school and in those first few years of life where they're either working or living on their own for the first time, or attending college.

So the reading level falls in between Young Adult and Adult. With the contemporary romance (which I wouldn't recommend much of because so many of them read the same), it often has added steam. Some NA has about the same amount of steam as an adult book.

Yep.

message 255: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments Thanks ladies! All these terms are lost on me.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I still think the NA cutoff is 22, but that's just me. Not everyone defines it the same but most of the 23/24 age group is shelved as adult in book stores. Most people 23/24 are in post-grad stuff.

message 257: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments Wow that is a really confusing genre. Who comes up with this stuff?

message 258: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments And still acting like college students. Lol. Or at least I did. *blushes*

I am reading Gameboard of the Gods (Age of X, #1) by Richelle Mead and am really liking it. Wendy and Leea what didn't you like?

I still question that one. LOL.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Marcella wrote: "Wow that is a really confusing genre. Who comes up with this stuff?"

I'm so weird on this but it's one of those random things that makes me take a second look.

Technically, NA would be an age classification, not a genre.

A genre is something like sci-fi, paranormal, contemporary, etc. - the actual term for the type of world you're reading about.

An age classification refers to reading level. Think adult books, for example. No one calls adult books a genre because it just encompasses mainstream reading, but it is an age classification overall. i.e. - childrens, middle grade (jr. high), young adult, new adult, adult.

I read about a quarter of it and the story was just not grabbing me. The world was confusing and I didn't feel the connection between the leads. Does it pick up?

Makes sense Stacia. The way you describe it, there are an astronomical amount of books in this classification.

message 263: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I am only at 20% and liked it from the beginning. So I may not be the best person for you to ask. I like the connection between the leads and the set up of the world. The world is interesting. I know two of the some I blog with really liked it. One didn't like it until 50% but the other liked it from the beginning.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Gameboard is on my list for early May. I'm holding out hope that I'll like it okay. I don't mind if it's heavier sci-fi though.

message 265: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I didn't like any of those things... haha! It felt fake or like Mead was trying too hard for us to like them. I mean when they first (view spoiler) I may pick it up again because I love Mead as an author.

message 266: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments GIve me a heads up, Stacia when you decided to pick it up in May, I really want to finish it.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments Marcella wrote: "I am having withdrawals from her books. I haven't read one in at least one month. Ha ha!"

LOL! Well I'm on my eleventh one in a row. I think I've been reading her for like three weeks.

message 270: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments Been there, done that Angie.

message 271: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I've tried quitting her, and I can't. Even the books I don't love have some elements that I really like. LOL

message 272: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I'm halfway through Dream of Me/Believe in Me (Viking & Saxon, #1 & #2) by Josie Litton and I'm enjoying it. There's lots of sexiness ;)

So, I love my new Nook HD but I started reading on the kindle touch my mom gave me. For you kindle owners, is the reading speed time really accurate? I see now what Lori was saying about trying to race against the time. LOL I don't think it bothers me though b/c I like to know that I can finish a particular book in X amount of time if I had no interruptions.

message 273: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments As for the NA PNR/UF...that's a hard one. I seem to read a lot of this genre in contemporary. So, is the cut off age 22 or 24?

message 274: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments LOL Kay. I never actually pay attention to it.

message 275: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Kay, I've found that if you click/press on that reading speed, it'll change - sometimes from X min to next chapter to X hrs/min to end of book. But keep clicking! I usually don't stop until I hit the "real" page numbers or back to the old Loc.

Yeah, I'm weird. If I leave the reading speed, it does seem to be accurate for me. Of course, if you page around or go in and out of a book, then it insists on recalculating it again.

I'm liking Dream Of Me too, although I'm not all that far into it. You've been asking some really great questions so far - got me thinking!

message 276: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I'm way late, but I second Leea.

I couldn't get into the world at all, and while I liked the male lead more than the female neither one hooked me.

I will be trying to finish it though because I got to almost 50% and have heard since then that the second half is better than the first.

message 277: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Thanks for all the suggestions on NA! I've only seen contemp romance with it - and was also questioning how the term was being used. Because it seems sometimes to be used as a genre, even though I agree, it's not.

I'm just curious about it, not knowing much. Regina, you brought up Fever - Mac is 22? So is that NA? In the end, is it a ridiculous classification - a marketing ploy? Stories being either YA or (upwards) adult?

I'm fascinated by it - potentially because it does seem to be smoke and mirrors. Anyhow, thanks again for all your thoughts.

message 278: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Oh I just thought of another one! The Hallowed Ones (The Hallowed Ones, #1) by Laura Bickle

It's definitely for marketing. But I do like that age range. Marketers are getting very good at figuring out what people want.

That looks really good and original.

message 280: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Stacia turned me on to the book, both of us really liked it. The sequel is out this fall, I cannot wait.

message 281: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished Dream of Me/Believe in Me (Viking & Saxon, #1 & #2) by Josie Litton and I really liked it!

Not sure what to read. I'm thinking of starting Dead Sky Morning (Experiment in Terror, #3) by Karina Halle or maybe a light contemporary.

message 282: by Lori (last edited Apr 24, 2013 10:25AM) (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Wow, Kay, you're ripping through these books! Did you already finish Red Fox (Experiment in Terror, #2) by Karina Halle I wasn't sure if I should jump in or not... Everyone's reading this series just as quickly as I did the first time around. Seems like there's a lot more reading than chatting about the books - LOL!

I'm reading [bookcover:City Of Ashes} now. It feels very different than the 1st book.

message 283: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Lori...after I read book 1, I immediately picked up Red Fox and The Benson. I just couldn't wait!

message 284: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Is anyone else having problems with goodreads? I am having problems loading pages and the page timing out. It's getting on my nerves.

message 285: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Kay, there was a definite "glitch" a few minutes ago. I think it's fixed now.

message 286: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I finished Creed (Unfinished Hero, #2) by Kristen Ashley , and I loved it! Now I'm reading Raid (Unfinished Hero, #3) by Kristen Ashley .

Hallowed Ones is REALLY good. You can't go wrong with Amish plus vampires.

Regina, I'm excited for the next book too. I'm going to be reading another Amish book in a few days because I love reading about Amish culture.

Finished Never Have I Ever by August Clearwing last night and it was a major *headdesk* for me. There were about 20 different/warring plot devices in one book.

Starting Dark Light (Dark Light, #1) by S.L. Jennings

message 288: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Kay wrote: "Is anyone else having problems with goodreads? I am having problems loading pages and the page timing out. It's getting on my nerves."

Yes, I wanted to see a Dex & Perry video on the authors GR page and they kept disappearing once I clicked on them.

message 289: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Okay been addicted to Dex and Perry... I finished Red Fox (Experiment in Terror, #2) by Karina Halle and now I just need more so i'm going to read The Benson (Experiment in Terror, #2.5) by Karina Halle . Then I'm reading the Viking Romance book. I've got to catch up.

I am feeling overwhelmed by books these days. I seems like the days get shorter and the books I want to read keep getting longer.

Stacia, when are you going to read Spirit (Elemental, #3) by Brigid Kemmerer ?

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments May sometime, hopefully not too far in. I have 3 other galleys I have to fit in by Tuesday, eek.

Did you read 2.5 yet?

Dark Light may be a bust. I'm only having fun reading it because a few of my friends are reading it together and cracking on it. That's so sad.

Probably going to start Wicked as They Come (Blud, #1) by Delilah S. Dawson so I can read my book 2 galley over the weekend.

message 291: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Yes. I'm all ready to read Spark just need the time. :) I was hoping to jump in and read it with you since i'm totally bailing on our other buddy reads.
