I often hear from people all the time (who aren't from Chicago or NYC) that say - I love Chicago it is mike NYC without the attitude. I do disagree. They just haven't met the right Chicagoan.

So my sister in law lives in Georgia and one her sons' teachers said in front of her about how New Yorkers thought they were better than everybody else. Very seriously, my SIL turned to her sons and said: "We don't think so. We really are."

Lol Samantha. I don't think it is cleaner but the difference is in how garbage is disposed downtown - there are alleys so all the garbage everywhere is never on the street. So there is a perception of being cleaner. I rememeber being shocked at garbage on the street downtown in NYC. But NYC is older and designed differently so it makes sense.

Chicago is a beautiful city. The diverse architecture, the Lake which looks like an ocean and the trains criss crossing the city - add in the people. It is a great city. I do love it.

We have a canal street too! What I love about NYC and Boston too is that in the business and financial district there are independent restairants and street vendors. Chicago used to be that way in the business financial area but it was "cleaned" up so no more street vendors and there are mostly chain stores and restaurants. It is the outskirts of the "loop" that the independent restaurants are.

Finished ... It was OK, but I was a bit disappointed. Have you read a steamy book where there was simply too many sex scenes? If this was one of "those" books, I'd go with it; but the series is set up to be "hot" without being over the top. Maybe I OD'd on this series, since I re-read books 1 & 2 before starting 3.

I've actually read , but I forgot to review it. So since my memory is so bad, I have to re-read it before moving on. Hopefully it'll be a quick skim. I remember the highlights. I like The Iron Druid Chronicles. The series has its own quirks and all, but it's a good read.

Probably have to cleanse my palate again with some historical somethings. And I have to get back to , but not until the end of this month.

Whenever I saw movies of Chicago, I thought the Lake was an ocean. How could I have thought that when I knew very well that Chicago is in the Midwest is beyond me, but in my defense the only lakes I've seen are fairly small. It just never added up for some reason!!

Haha, it is so true. Whenever Luis's (my husband) relatives visit from Mexico and go to the Lake they are stunned. Where Luis is from in Mexico and a day's drive to either ocean, so they are very familiar with the ocean. One uncle said in Spanish, "That is a f***ing big lake!" I get oddly scared out on a boat in the middle of the lake far from the coast. Maybe because the water is so cold and dark and deep - -I don't feel that way on the ocean. So many swimmers and boaters die every summer, the undercurrent of the lake rivals that of many beaches along the ocean and then boaters who go for a swim (happens all the time) -- get separated from their boat when they don't anchor it and even though they can tread water or they die of exposure. Sorry to be so grim - -but it is a huge body of water that is scary and beautiful!

Regina, I'm not as tied to S&N like I am EiT. I think it's the thing that draws you and repels me - the grittiness and darkness of "real". For some reason, there's enough of the paranormal with Perry & Dex that I don't get bogged down in that in EiT.

But I do want to finish S&N. If it's a cliff-hanger ending (which I think it will probably be), I might change my mind. I'm so the person they target when they do that - I hate not knowing what comes next for major events.

I finally cracked open this series (it's been on my TBR forever). I think since the first one was free, I didn't take it seriously, but its got great reviews so I finally tried it. Glad I did:


I'm starting the third book today. It's a quiet sort of PNR, but well-written and somewhat cerebral vs action-packed (although there is some action).

I haven't started

yet as I've been trying to get through

I'm so happy someone just commented that it might be better to read it afterward.

Searock - I *adored* the Elemental Mysteries. It took me awhile to get into book 1 , though, I have to admit.

I got one of them free - I think it was book 2 or 3. But I can't start in book 3 without reading books 1 & 2, so... yeah, I'm the sucker that goes for those deals. BUT I really enjoyed the series, so it was worth whatever I ended up paying for the 4 books.

Those pics of the lake, Superior? by Chicago...impressive! I've been to Chicago once for a Pampered Chef conference, in July. It was SO hot and humid, I about died. Ended up not doing much sightseeing, unfortunately. And yeah, thought that body of water was the ocean LOL! I'll blame it on the heat frying my brain.

Anna has been pushing that series for a while, so it's one I'd like to try soon. I'd gotten book 1 as a freebie too.

I finished [book:Caged Warrior|15723597] a couple days ago but have been behind on book chat. I liked that women can be kings in this book. And for a pnr, it had a lot less cheese than normal, which was a pleasant surprise. I just wish that there had been more of the dragon lineage side of the story told. So much of this book was spent on fight training for the cage mage that the world building was glossed over in parts. Maybe we'll get more on the next book.
