Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments It really was. I am suffering from a book hang over. I can't move on.

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments So was Fan Girl a fantasy? I heard it wasn't all that good. Can I read Carry On without reading Fan Girl?

message 7253: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Must Love Otters is good fun. Cute and quirky but not childish which seems to be where a lot of cute and quirky books end up.

Must Love Otters by Eliza Gordon

Fangirl isn't a fantasy. Fangirl is a light romantic coming of age story about a girl with social anxiety who prefers to socialize online and through fanfiction.

I know lot of us loved it, lol. Though I'm sure it's not for everyone.

Simon Snow is the the series of books that Cath (main character in Fangirl) was crazy about. So it's a fictional fantasy that was created in a fictional romance, lol.

You definitely don't need to read Fangirl first. It's not mentioned even once, because it's like a completely different reality.

message 7256: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I have never heard Fangirl wasn't that good. I loved it so much.

message 7257: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments i wasn't a fan of Fangirl - the obvious HP fanfiction element (aka Simon Snow) was just too much of the story - it felt like it took it over

message 7258: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Interesting! I wasn't a fan of the fanfiction text, but I loved the other part of the story so much.

message 7259: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments i liked the other part of the story, but Cath drove me nuts and the end was just like ehh...i felt like it didn't really end

message 7260: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments LOL, I loved the Cath parts, and the Simon and Baz parts, and all the parts.

I think a big majority of it is because I am so much like Cath. She is the character that I felt like was written specifically for me.

message 7261: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I loved her too.

What I especially loved about Cath was that when I read Fangirl, I'd also read a spate of books about female characters with anxiety issues. And unlike those others, Cath (view spoiler)

message 7263: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I couldn't agree more.

message 7264: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Yes! I loved the writing of the sisters' relationship, the stress of feeling like one doesn't belong in a new environment, the excitement to go home for visits, conflicts with professors, the mental health issues surrounding their dad, and (view spoiler) these were written realistically and fleshed out so well.

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I am finally reading Sweet Filthy Boy (Wild Seasons, #1) by Christina Lauren

I am also really into podcasts right now. I wish I could link to them here!

message 7266: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I'm curious to see how you'll like that series, lol.

message 7267: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Uh oh! You think I won't?

I am enjoying it so far. I am not far in.

message 7268: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I don't know. I liked it. I've read the first two so far. You might like it. They're fun and light. Cute.

I'm pretty addicted to the series. It's a lot of hot fun.

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 173 comments finished Masked Innocence (Innocence, #2) by Alessandra Torre and almost done with End of the Innocence (Innocence, #3) by Alessandra Torre . neither one of these are as good as the first. Ms. Torre was trying too heard for a plot. she should have advanced the main characters relationship without the hooplah. but anywho, i like her anyways. hehe

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 173 comments finished End of the Innocence, it was just ok for me. now reading Succubus on Top (Georgina Kincaid, #2) by Richelle Mead

message 7272: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Finished After You (Me Before You, #2) by Jojo Moyes and loved it. In terms of plot, it's not necessary to read Me Before You (with the same protagonist) but in terms of an emotionally understanding of her journey, I'd say absolutely do so.

Reviews for this one seem to be all over the place. I am really hesitant, but I'm going to read it anyway. I loved the first book so much, and my willpower should be called nilpower. LOL

message 7275: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I saw those JoJo Moyes books at the bookstore and was curious. They're good?

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments Wendy F wrote: "I saw those JoJo Moyes books at the bookstore and was curious. They're good?"

The only one I've read was a five star read for me: Me Before You (Me Before You, #1) by Jojo Moyes . I haven't had a chance to read more from her, but I'd like to.

message 7277: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Wendy I think you would enjoy this book. I think the writing style and relationship is something you would enjoy.

message 7278: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments After You or Me Before You?

I'm definitely eager to try one of them, lol. I think I'd like the author.

message 7279: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Me Before You. I haven't read After You, which is the sequel to Me Before You.

message 7280: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I'll have to grab it. I really want to read it now, lol. Thanks!

message 7281: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Wendy F wrote: "I saw those JoJo Moyes books at the bookstore and was curious. They're good?"

Yes! Really good. I feel like the covers do the stories a real disservice relegating them to the most banal of chick lit or women's fiction. The first one especially explores a complex issue and is full of humour and heart.

message 7282: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Loved The Magician's Land (The Magicians, #3) by Lev Grossman The best book of the series.

message 7283: by Domino (aka Meme) (new)

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 173 comments finished Succubus on Top. it wasn't as good as book 1 but entertaining. i thought Sebastian was hilarious. now listening Whiskey and Wry (Sinners, #2) by Rhys Ford

message 7284: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I am reading Wild Sky (Night Sky, #2) by Suzanne Brockmann , but it's just not grabbing me.

message 7285: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments you are a braver woman than me Angie - i barely made it through the prequel of that series - the audiobook was HORRIBLE!

message 7286: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments The prequel wasn't great. But the first book was great, I really enjoyed Wild Sky too. It took me a little bit to get back into it, stick with it Angie. :)

message 7287: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments the audiobook mgiht have been ok it if wasn't narrated by her daughter...i stand by my belief that audiobooks shouldn't be narrated by authors

message 7288: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments holy shit!

message 7289: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I agree that they shouldn't be narrated by the authors. I don't know why that is such a turn off for me.

See, I was in the opposite camp. I LOVED the prequel, but I thought the first book was just Ok.

message 7290: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments i think because most of the time, the authors don't have the training/experience to be a good audiobook narrator

Book 2 was probably my least favorite of the series. It gets really good around 4/5.

I'm working on Island by Richard Laymon Room by Emma Donoghue Dark Desires After Dusk (Immortals After Dark, #6) by Kresley Cole

Island is weird. I expected that going in, but the main character is super pervy. He's so busy getting a boner that he's not freaking out over a killer being on the loose.

message 7292: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I just picked up Molly Harper's laqtest The Single Undead Mom's Club and from Jennifer Estep Dark Heart of Magic. I'm also reading No River too Wide by Emilie Richards and Look Both Ways by Carol J. Perry.

The Single Undead Moms Club (Half-Moon Hollow, #4) by Molly Harper Dark Heart of Magic (Black Blade, #2) by Jennifer Estep No River Too Wide (Goddesses Anonymous #3) by Emilie Richards Look Both Ways (Witch City Mystery, #3) by Carol J. Perry

I think my issue is the connection between Milo and Sky. It seemed to escalate so quickly. I feel like it has the potential to overwhelm the plot in this one, where in the previous book it seemed to be more of a backdrop in the story.

message 7294: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments So I stuck with it. 56% and it's finally feeling worth it.

message 7295: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments My struggle with this series was I barely remembered anything but that I enjoyed the first book! I think waiting 2 year in between installments is a really long time for a simple book like this. I see why outlander takes years but Wild Sky?

message 7296: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Glad it is becoming worth it! I have no patience anymore. I would have given up long before that time. Yikes.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments Regina wrote: "Glad it is becoming worth it! I have no patience anymore. I would have given up long before that time. Yikes."

LOL Oh, I wasn't soldiering on until 56%. It started to be worth it before that. It was just that that's when things really started cooking.

I forgot that with these books, it takes a while for things to get going. I think maybe the writers struggle with how to start it, or it just isn't enticing enough to me at first.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Just finished Island by Richard Laymon , which was quite possibly one of the worst horror books I've ever read. I didn't throw up in my mouth to the same degree that I did with American Psycho, but at least AP was written with a certain level of intellect. This book was just stupid. And twisted, but not in an entertaining way.

Starting A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
