Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Oh, that's too bad. :( I started on book 3 of the chocolate series but I haven't gotten far enough in to know how I like it because I'm also juggling Skin Game (Skin, #1) by Ava Gray and Red Rising (Red Rising Trilogy, #1) by Pierce Brown

I want to see a book between Sylvain's friend from 1 and the blogger, I think it was?

Yes. I'd like that too but not sure if he fits her parameters for sexy smirking Frenchmen. :P

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I'm currently reading The Understatement of the Year (The Ivy Years, #3) by Sarina Bowen and I'm enjoying it. I usually don't like New Adult but I think M/M New Adult really works for me.

message 6704: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments that looks intriguing Kay - I think the m/m group is going to have it as a read for review soon

That looks really good. I'll have to keep an eye out for it once its pubbed.

decaf?

lol...I was in a cafe a few years ago in a suburb of Sydney called Balmain...very large Italian community.
Anyway, I ordered my large flat white and was waiting for the barista to make it and the next person in line ordered something that made my jaw drop.

Not sure if I'm getting this right but it was something like a skinny, soy, half shot decaf latte.

The barista just looked at her and said, "Get out!"

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Wendy F wrote: "m/m na... interesting."

I wasn't sure if I would like it since NA is usually a miss for me. I think since the angst is about a guy who's so inside the closet, I really feel his fears.

message 6711: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Ian...that's funny! LOL

message 6712: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments i've found m/m has had their version of NA a lot longer than mainstream - i read some by DJ Manly several years ago - it didn't have the angst factor that the m/f stuff seems to have

message 6713: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I don't handle the angst of na well either. it mostly just pisses me off, but then I wonder if it'll be the same with an m/m. Most things don't bother me as much when it's a male character as it does if they're female, for some reason.

Have others read them? I Want It That Way (2B Trilogy #1) by Ann Aguirre or Mortal Danger (Immortal Game, #1) by Ann Aguirre

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I might have to plan a time to read the book after Beyond Shame. It's been a while since I read the first book.

Still working through Red Rising (Red Rising Trilogy, #1) by Pierce Brown and started In the Woods (Dublin Murder Squad, #1) by Tana French

message 6723: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 419 comments I haven't read the next book after Beyond Shame yet.

I'm reading The Seduction Of Elliot McBride (MacKenzies & McBrides, #5) by Jennifer Ashley

message 6724: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Loved The Understatement of the Year (The Ivy Years, #3) by Sarina Bowen First NA book I can say that about. Thanks for the rec, Kay.

message 6725: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 159 comments Finished Beyond Shame (Beyond, #1) by Kit Rocha and The Dark God's Bride Trilogy, #1 by Dahlia Lu . Beyond Shame was interesting and I liked some of the characters, like Rachel so I might pick out the book that she's in. The Dark God's Bride I skimmed through because the way it read was not very polished to me.

I'm going to now read The Golden Apple (The Dark Forest, #1) by Michelle Diener .

message 6726: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Just started Morgan's Hunter. I have to be honest, the story is OK....quite enjoyable. But the bush-craft is driving me insane. You know those old TV shows where twigs snap and the good guys realise they're being followed. Yeah that.
I think the basic story idea isn't bad but some better research and it could have been great.

Morgan's Hunter (The Bodyguards Of L.A. County, #1) by Cate Beauman

It says it's a standalone, but just out of curiosity did either of you read the others?

message 6732: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments It definitely can be read as a stand alone. I haven't read any of the other books in the series. I am curious to see if they are just as good...just not sure if I want to read f/m New Adult angst. LOL But you should give Understatement a try. I think you will like it!

I haven't. I'm with Kay on not wanting to read f/m NA angst. I've had such bad luck with NA and I think this book being m/m and avoiding the whole "broken female" angle had a lot to do with my enjoyment of it.

Does anyone know other m/m NA books worth reading?

message 6734: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments I didn't mind Juliann Rich's stuff - maybe more YA than NA - religious conflict - I reviewed the first 2 in trilogy for bold strokes books

I generally can't stand NA, lol. That's the only reason I'm interested in this one, because it's M/M. I was just curious about the others. I'll probably just jump in to this one.

It's because I generally can't stand NA either that I wanted the m/m recs. (And thanks everyone). See, I figure at some point, I'll forget how much it annoys me and want to read it. But if I can avoid the tropes that drive me nuts, maybe my head won't explode. :D

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Finished Reaper's Stand (Reapers MC, #4) by Joanna Wylde . I'm really starting to hate that I'm so far invested in the series now because this book was frustrating. I liked the former book, so I was hoping that the series was finally on a upswing. But nope. It was a huge backslide again.

Started In the Woods (Dublin Murder Squad, #1) by Tana French and Redeemed (House of Night, #12) by P.C. Cast . Once I get past my buddy read of In the Woods, I'll go back to Red Rising. I was having a hard time switching back and forth between the two styles of writing, so I chose a more simplistic (hah) book to read with ItW.

I love Tana French so much! Her second book is my fav. Hope you enjoy In the Woods, Stacia.

Courtney | 159 comments Finished The Golden Apple (The Dark Forest, #1) by Michelle Diener which was a quick read but I didn't connect with any of the characters. It was pretty fast paced.

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I've been reading The Hawley Book of the Dead which for the first 40% felt like splashing your feet in the kiddies pool at the water-park...then all of a sudden a great whopping big tsunami comes from nowhere and crashes over you!!!

I'm just about to start More to Give by Terri Osburn. I just want to say, Terri Osburn is the shining hope for Contemporary Romance. For a while now the genre has felt a little tired...but Terri Osburn manages to write proper CR that's both original and refreshing.

I don't think much of the cover for Love Me to Death...tattoos like that annoy me even when they're well done but that design is a disaster.
Lucky it was done by somebody art department at Entangled and not by a tattoo artist.

Is the book any good? Has an in the stratosphere rating which doesn't mean much but the idea seems interesting.

I agree. Love Terri Osburn's CRs. Looking forward to your reivew! I was lucky to get a "kindle first" for her last book and was hoping More to Give would be the same but it's not. I'll just have to wait for release day.

I'm not that far in yet, but it's OK so far. It suffers from the whole 'I know my life is in danger, but look at him! Doesn't he look like he's been perfectly sculpted?" syndrome. But if it picks up and moves on from that, there's enough time for recovery.
