Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Finished Wherever You Are by Sharon Cullen . The writing was shaky and the editing was weak. Plus, a few moments didn't really make all that much sense. BUT...it was a sweet romance and I liked the time travel/pirate ship adventure side of it. So even with some complaints, I'm glad I read it.

Still working on Sacrifice (Elemental, #5) by Brigid Kemmerer and started (finally) Siege (As The World Dies, #3) by Rhiannon Frater .

I've been wanting to read that book for a while. I can't wait to see what you think of it.

I finished Seraphina, Stacia. Good story but the pacing was slow. The were too many details. OMG! Drove me wild.

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I think I'll get Seraphina. Looks interesting.

Well let me know what you think, Ian.

message 6606: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished Her Kind of Trouble by Sarah Mayberry over the weekend and it was okay.

I also met Stephanie Perkins yesterday! She was so nice and very honest with the depression she went through before completing Isla and the Happily Ever After. While Perkins was talking, a young girl collapsed and went into a seizure! An ambulance was called and the girl turned out to be ok. It was so very crazy!

Anyway....here's the pic that I took with her: https://www.goodreads.com/photo/user/...

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments About halfway through The Chocolate Thief (Amour et Chocolat #1) by Laura Florand and I'm loving it.

Started Half a King (Shattered Sea, #1) by Joe Abercrombie for a buddy read.

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 173 comments finally started my listen Unbeloved (Undeniable, #4) by Madeline Sheehan . i've been waiting impatiently for this audiobook. hehe

message 6610: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I started Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail... I'm really looking forward to reading this journey.

message 6611: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I think I opened the floodgates with my very first DNF. I have another one, and I'll be honest. I love the idea that I don't have to push through it, and instead get to read something I'm hopefully going to love!

message 6612: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Reading time is precious so DNF'ing a book is ok, Angie. I use to feel like I had to finish every book I read but not anymore. LOL

message 6613: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments That is so true, Kay, and with the market so saturated right now, I feel like it's harder to sift through.

I'm curious--do any of you have a rule of thumb about where you stop reading a book? I don't really have one, but I made it about a third of the way through each book, and I feel like that is enough time for the author to capture my attention if he/she is going to.

message 6614: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I read a book up to 20% and if it doesn't get any better by then, I stop reading.

I do agree that there's so many books to filter through before you find a good book. I also decided not to read many indie authors just bc I haven't had any luck with most.

message 6615: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I just started Scandal And The Duchess (Highland Pleasures, #6.5) by Jennifer Ashley .

message 6616: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (last edited Sep 14, 2014 12:35PM) (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I finished and loved Scandal And The Duchess (Highland Pleasures, #6.5) by Jennifer Ashley . Jennifer Ashley is one of those authors that has been on my list to try for ages, but for some reason I just haven't. This story really intrigued me and made me want to know more about Ian Mackenzie. I can't wait to go back and read the rest of this series!

Now on to Some Girls Bite (Chicagoland Vampires, #1) by Chloe Neill .

message 6617: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 159 comments I finished Stolen Songbird (The Malediction Trilogy, #1) by Danielle L. Jensen which was a decent YA novel.

Going to start Bared to You (Crossfire, #1) by Sylvia Day .

message 6618: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Got Scandal And The Duchess (MacKenzies & McBrides, #6.5) by Jennifer Ashley and bummed that it turned out to be an DNF for me since I love her books about the MacKenzie brothers.

message 6619: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 419 comments Oh wow. What made it an DNF, Tellulah? I like that series.

message 6620: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments i was going to ask same thing Tellulah...now i'm scared

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Finished The Chocolate Thief (Amour et Chocolat #1) by Laura Florand . Loved. Loved. Loved. Loved. Loved. I smiled practically the entire time I was reading it. And there was a wonderful sensual scene on a set of stairs which I filed away with my Georgina Kincaid book 4 office scene for favorites of all time.

Leea - I think you'd really like this. Maybe Wendy too.

message 6622: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I'm completely addicted to Wildfire. It's a kind of rough maybe even brash story about a woman who joins the Hotshots, firefighters who battle fires with shovels and chainsaws.

And I just started Until the end of the world which is about zombies. Not sure yet, it's a promising start but you can't judge a zombie book until the survivors find themselves trapped in a supermarket.

Wildfire by Mary Pauline Lowry Until the End of the World (Until the End of the World #1) by Sarah Lyons Fleming

message 6623: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 419 comments Supermarket or convenient store. The gas station. Then you know you are in a good zombie story :)

message 6624: by Ian (last edited Sep 19, 2014 06:10AM) (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments lol....George Romero has a lot to answer for. Speaking of whom, am I the only one who has noticed how much like a zombie George Romero is starting to look?

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Samantha wrote: "Oh wow. What made it an DNF, Tellulah? I like that series."

The two lovers just bored me. I found them both just very surface without anything interesting going on. I think I managed about a third of the book before I just couldn't push through anymore. I don't know. Maybe I'm going through a weird HR slump because I seem to be DNFing a lot of them lately. Which is too bad because HR is a happy place for me.

message 6628: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 419 comments Oh ok. Sometimes you got to DNF

message 6629: by Kay (last edited Sep 19, 2014 11:22AM) (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments This week I finished Till Next We Meet by Karen Ranney which I really enjoyed. Then I finished a historical western, Nobody's Angel by Karen Robards which was good. Now, I'm reading a time-travel historical, When There is Hope by Jane Goodger ....really liking it so far.

message 6632: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Oh thanks for the rec. Stacia - I put in on the TBR pile.

I finished Wild From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed and it was a very moving and emotional story. Not going to lie, I plan on hiking a bit of the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail) when in Bend next month. I just have this feeling that I need to set foot near where Cheryl's journey took her.

Next up, Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn . My hubby is reading it and said I needed to catch up so we could talk about this book. Sounds fun!

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend :)

message 6635: by Lizzie (new)

Lizzie (lizzierw) | 14 comments Just started on To Marry A Scottish Laird (An English Bride In Scotland, #2) by Lynsay Sands

message 6636: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments It's not really Romance...nor is it YA, though it has been listed as both for some reason...what it is though is one of my best 5 books of the year.

Wildfire by Mary Pauline Lowry

There is this saying about Swing music. 'Hitting the notes isn't as important as getting into the groove'. And I'd say that for this book, it's a little rough around the edges...and I hope the publisher leaves that roughness, it totally suits the brash and crass world of remote area fire fighters (Hotshots).

message 6637: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments Ugh that should have been mind-fuck!!
