that's good to hear Stacia. after bk1 i wasn't sure i'd continue the series. i'll have to give bk2 a go.

Book three is my favorite of the series so far. I really liked the heroine. She was feisty and strong, without being a bitch. I feel like authors sometimes cross that line with heroines; in an effort to make them look tough, they just end up unlikable.

I wasn't a big fan of book 2 either, but it was slightly better than the first. It wasn't until book 3 that I really liked what was happening.

i'm glad i have something to look forward to in bk3. hehe

I couldn't stand the first book but loved parts of it. I loved the idea of the history, the academia and the group of people working together. I hated the dynamics of the relationship between the two main characters. What made you end up love this book but made you lukewarm about the first two?

I've wondered about that myself. I think it was that I was finally deep enough into the relationships and interpersonal dynamics that the only place to go was playing out everything that had taken two books to set up. Lots of characters but they had purpose instead "hey let's now add these people to the mix."
I also really enjoyed the blood rage/genetics component of the story as well. The characters involved in that aspect added a much needed sense of fun to the world.

Going to read either

I'm just starting The Shambling Guide to New York City...tourism for zombies, should be good, I hope it's good.

Courtney, a few of us here absolutely love Bronze Horseman. *waits for Leea to pop in*

Meme...the narrator for the Night Huntress series is fabulous if you like audio books!

Starting

This looks good. I've added it to my To Be Read list.
I was craving a good historical about a week ago and read

oh yes, i like her. the only way i read Night Huntress is by audio =D too bad she didn't do Rock Chick. hehe

there are a few things I like about the book, those things are tugging the rating up to 3 stars... but then something happens which kind of annoys me and the rating drops back to 2 stars.
e.g. Nobody enjoys being naked as much as the main character.
She wants a swim... off with the clothes and swims naked.
She wants to intimidate someone... stand in front of her naked and tweak her nipple.
Hot guy comes over...she forgets she's naked.
Investigating a crime and doesn't want to get blood on her clothes... off with the clothes and investigates naked.
Honestly...that stuff is kind of ridiculous.

Angie, I'm with you. Happily picked up a bunch of HR from the library the other day.

whereas I HATED her voicing of bones - but then I'd read several books in the series and had my idea of what he should sound like (more like Spike from buffy) than what I got

It sucks when the hero doesn't sound the way you imagined or even just a way you can stand to listen to.
I swear some female narrators think all men sound like they've smoked four packs of cigarettes since birth. I had to return an audio of a book I'd already read because it was ruining the hero for me. I knew if I continued listening it was going to kill my love for the book.

Dee, that's good u liked her narration in other books. u don't have to miss out on other books she narrates. i need to follow some practices of other members in this group who listen to the sample before purchase. luckily Audible allows u to return books u don't like. i don't want to make it a habit though :/

Going to read

Going to read

I started with book 2 of the Fantasyland series and had to DNF it, the book was so completely terrible.

I find the sample doesn't always give you a good idea - for example, one of the demonica books, the sample was the dictionary that was at the beginning, so you couldn't hear any of the characters

LOL! how wrong is that. made me chuckle

It's a bit like a layer cake...but with mashed potato instead of cream. My way of saying that some of the elements are surprising and don't quite work.

Enjoy, Dee. I really liked it.

I have the ARC for Poison Promise by Jennifer Estep on my Kindle and I'm enjoying it so far.
That's about it at the moment. I haven't found anything at Netgalley or Edelweiss lately that fit my reading criteria so I'm making some headway into a few that have been waiting for me.
