I quite liked the Emperor's Edge...need to get back into that series. I stopped after book three and just never got back to it.

Anna (Bobs Her Hair) I'm starting Walking On Air (Valance Family, #1) by Catherine Anderson (western historical romance) for a group read today.

message 5960: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 159 comments Ian - It seems pretty good so far but I'm only in 8%. It also doesn't hurt that it's free on Kindle! I tend to like these kinds of settings as well so definitely looking forward to see what's in store.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments In an effort to clean up my 'currently reading' shelf, I'm going to try and finish Tattoo Thief (Tattoo Thief, #1) by Heidi Joy Tretheway . I only have 17% left. It started off really good (the first 40-50%) and then went downhill for me.

message 5964: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Love the cover though Angie. ;)

I am 50% in to The Interrogation of Ashala Wolf (The Tribe #1) by Ambelin Kwaymullina and really enjoying it.

I am also 50% into the audio of Secrets of the Demon (Kara Gillian, #3) by Diana Rowland - -I am loving this series. I love that I found some UF books that I want to read. It has been awhile (unless they were my favorites like Dresden Files and Mercy Thompson).

message 5965: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I've been so distracted for the last 6 weeks. I'm so glad you're enjoying it Regina.

I'm going to start a new series with Wendy, Mark of the Demon (Kara Gillian, #1) by Diana Rowland tomorrow.

message 5966: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Oh my. This book is terrible...but I just can't look away. It's strangely compelling.

Walking On Air (Valance Family, #1) by Catherine Anderson

It's like The Room....so bad it's good.

message 5967: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Leea you didn't like the interrogation of ashala wolf?

I hope you and Wendy like Kara Gillian as much as I do!

message 5968: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I started reading Fragile (Rafferty, #1) by Shiloh Walker and it's just going ok. I feel like I haven't found anything to "wow" me in a long time.

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Anyone know why my notification level for this thread routinely changes? It is pretty annoying, I have it set to "email all" and then occasionally (like once a week) it goes back to "individual". So weird!

Ooh, I want a good UF series. And I like your recs, Regina. Going to check this out. :)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments My notifications are all whacky too. I have no idea why.

message 5972: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Its weird, like its a reset. I am guessing it is more expensive for GR to email me all of the posts. :)

Tellulah (and Wendy and Leea), I enjoyed the first one in the Kara Gillian series. It was a solid book, the heroine is just not typical. She isn't beautiful, she isn't buff or strong, she has body self esteem issues. She is lonely. I often don't like cop investigation stories unless they are done with a focus on the characters - and this is what this series is. Now the 2nd book raised the level of enjoyment and I am liking the 3rd even more. The series just keeps getting better. But I enjoyed #1. Not sure why it doesn't get more attention. There are some twists and reveals happening now that I am really liking.

The cover is the highlight of the book. LOL It's always a bad sign if the book starts going downhill when the main characters actually meet.

message 5974: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Finished Darkwitch Rising (The Troy Game, #3) by Sara Douglass Ready this series really has been like watching a soap. It had been fun but by book three, this one, I was sitting there thinking "are we really still on these storylines?" Then about halfway through - the twist! Amping up the action and ensuring we stuck around. For another book.

Oh I didn't get past the first chapter... It wasn't the book it was me. It's just too busy around here and I haven't been reading or had the desire to read. I hope to read it another time.

message 5977: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments FINALLY finished The Game and the Governess - I enjoyed it while I was reading it, but when I stopped it was like ehhh...then I had to make myself pick it back up...(if that makes sense)

message 5978: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Have to say...Walking on Air is terrible. I've read a few Catherine Anderson books, liked some...felt a but meh about others.

But this book is cringeworthy...and what's with info-dumping in a Western?

I walked away at 35%.

message 5979: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments yeah CA is not a favorite author of mine...I keep trying her but blech...its like she and Diana Palmer are stuck in the 70's

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Dee wrote: "yeah CA is not a favorite author of mine...I keep trying her but blech...its like she and Diana Palmer are stuck in the 70's"

Oh Diana Palmer. I've read one book by her...I think it was called The Texas Ranger...and I was so furious that I used it as a target at the range.

message 5981: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments i don't know why I kept reading her for soo long...I rememebr reading her when I first starting reading romance...and realized how bad she was...but I guess its like a car accident, you can't just look away, you have to watch until the bitter end

message 5982: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished Fragile (Rafferty, #1) by Shiloh Walker and didn't really care for it. But I still like other books by this author so I will read more by her.

I also finished The Opposite of Wild by Kylie Gilmore and it was a fun contemporary.

message 5983: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Read The Innocent Sleep by Karen Perry Well written but just depressed by the end of it. One of those books I kind of wish I hadn't read.

message 5984: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Oh, I have had that happen. You need to clean your palette with something fun.

I just finished Secrets of the Demon (Kara Gillian, #3) by Diana Rowland and I loved the big reveal. Now on to Sins of the Demon (Kara Gillian, #4) by Diana Rowland

I finished The Interrogation of Ashala Wolf (The Tribe #1) by Ambelin Kwaymullina I loved the first 75% - 5 stars. Lst 25% was 3 stars, but I will still read the sequel.

I am now reading Dreams of Gods and Monsters (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #3) by Laini Taylor yayay!!

message 5985: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments reading Because of You - the author def. has experience with the military and its not a whimsical romance either - its harsh (solider recovering from injury, attempted suicide etc)...some of the reviews mention a "cliff-hanger" but it seems that it is the other couple who are introduced in this story - so I don't know if I could call it a cliff-hanger or not

message 5986: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments That sounds really interesting.

message 5987: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Dee, there's no cliffhanger in that book...at least i don't remember it. The author is an officer and I thought her words showed her experience too. I liked the book bc it didn't have all all the suspenseful action like most books dealing with the military. It made the characters more real bc when these military people aren't fighting wars, they are regular people too and it was nice reading that side of things.

I know - I figured that out...it was irking me to see the 1 star reviews accusing the author of trying to game readers out of money etc...

message 5990: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments When I read a book by Laini Taylor it makes me realize how talented she is. Almost every sentence is beautiful.

message 5991: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments i'm almost done with DoBaS...and oh my god! (I have like 20 minutes left)...I was soo debating just sitting in the car this am to finish listening to it

message 5992: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments She is such an amazing author -- both in how she writes, her characters - and a third -- the world she creates.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I agree. She's something special. I wish I could write like her.

message 5994: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I started reading Rachel and the Hired Gun (Men of Defiance, #1) by Elaine Levine .

I've been like that for weeks, Kay. I don't know what will fix it.

That looks good thought... Let me know what you think.

message 5996: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I partly think that I pick up too many blah books so then I'm stuck in a rut.

Historical Western is usually the category that can get me out. I will let you know how it goes.

message 5997: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I love Historical Western... Fingers are crossed

message 5998: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments listening to the audiobook of The Wanderer now - it was one of the romance books nominated for an audie...decidedly underwhelmed...not as much as with the Bella Andre book that was nominated...but man, the audio really makes her redundancy stand out

message 5999: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments Kay - have you tried Beth Williamson and her Malloy series? I think Samhein released them a few years back, but they are decent reads - similar to the rough riders, in the whole family aspect, but not as steamy and historical

message 6000: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Dee I agree. I listened to a few of her other series by audio. I had to listen on 2x speed.
