Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I had a busy weekend but I finished Heart of the West by Penelope Williamson and liked it. I'm still working on Flying by Megan Hart and I also started the audio for Finding Bliss by Dina Silver .

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Read Rooftoppers by Katherine Rundell (cute, but closer to a childrens' book than MG) Lady Sophia's Lover (Bow Street Runners, #2) by Lisa Kleypas (didn't hold the same charm as the other Kleypas historicals I've read but it was ok), and am going to try and finish Gone Girl today finally, which is getting to a very interesting point. I like that my theories keep changing.

Also starting Girl in the Bedouin Tent by Annie West and I think this male lead actually has a harem, unlike the last book where it was just hinted at.

Anna (Bobs Her Hair) Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn I'm at the 75% mark. Will this book twist me up like the movie Mystic River. I have a bad feeling. *bites nails*

The next read will be a palate cleansing historical romance - The Game and the Governess by Kate Noble . It looks cute.

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments Anna - I have that Kate Noble book as well - buddy read?

message 5705: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 159 comments Finished Dirty (Dan and Elle, #1) by Megan Hart which was very good. I've read two pretty deep eroticas in a row, which is surprising to me. I'm glad that I got my hands on these.

Going to finish up The Naming (The Books of Pellinor, #1) by Alison Croggon .

Anna (Bobs Her Hair) Dee wrote: "Anna - I have that Kate Noble book as well - buddy read?"

Sounds like a plan, Dee. :) I should finish Gone Girl tonight. When would you like to start?

Kay, i'm the worst buddy reading friend ever!!! I'm still on chap 3, hope to read some tonight. I got stuck helping at the kids school and then had to do some PTA stuff, so I was basically there all day.

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments No worries, Leea. I know how crazy life can get.

I finished listening to Finding Bliss by Dina Silver & it was meh. I should take a break from New Adult...it's been such a miss for me lately.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Finished Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn . The end was...interesting.

Leea | 1437 comments Samantha and I are planning on reading Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth so we wanted to open it up to the group. We're hoping that you will join us.

Here is the link to our buddy read: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I just read that too! Some readers disliked the ending. I'm trying to wrap my head around it - the ending, I mean. (view spoiler)

A new ending adds an element of surprise, I suppose. Have you ever seen the movie "No Country for Old Men" with Tommy Lee Jones and Javier Bardem. The ending! Not what people expected. I think audiences would share a similar reaction to the original GG ending.

message 5714: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I'm going insane!

I generally have one audiobook (which I listen to in the car), and a few written word books (one Japanese and a couple in English) going at once.

Write now I can't find an audiobook to listen to that meets my specific requirements.

a. not too dark or depressing
b. no triangles and not too angsty
c. not too long.

I'll do any genre so long as there are romantic themes...but it needs to be audio and not all audiobooks that are available in the U.S. are available here...so, if anyone has a suggestion I'm up for it.

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments i kind of like that it wasn't essentially tied up in a pretty bow

message 5720: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I like books that do that too, I just think Gone Girl was a great story and the ending seemed like a forced conflict. The entire book felt like Flynn was trying to push boundaries rather than write a good story. Just my opinion of course.

Now you all have to read Dark Places.

message 5721: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments I have dark places and sharp objects on reserve at the library but I am like 50th and 25th in the line for both of them...lol

The Ending - it was fitting for one, harsh for another, and disturbing in the long-term.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I ended up skimming the second half of Girl in the Bedouin Tent by Annie West . It was a pretty basic romance, but I wanted much more back story and info about the culture itself. The last Sheikh romance I read at least put a little more thought into developing the history around the main character, which this book didn't do.

I had a book planned for today, but I don't remember what it was. I'll have to go look through my notes. O.o

Will probably start Etiquette & Espionage (Finishing School, #1) by Gail Carriger tomorrow.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I didn't figure out what I was supposed to be reading, so I started Grace and the Guiltless by Eric Johnson . Love that cover.

message 5733: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished reading Flying by Megan Hart and I liked it but I feel conflicted about the ending. This doesn't suprise me b/c other books I've read by this author has left me with the same feeling.

I am also listening to the audio of Taking Him Down (Wilinski's #2) by Meg Maguire ...it's short but fun. I will be done with it today.

I had such a bitch trying to get this book into a format where I could read it, since I couldn't send the thing to my kindle. I used to be able to convert the book on calibre, but the program won't do it anymore. I downloaded it directly from Netgalley onto my tablet reader and the thing wouldn't open in Adobe Digital Editions (which it is supposed to - that's the preferred way of reading protected books). So I had to go online and do a search for how to read the book, and ended up having to download the bluefire reader onto my Nook and then open the book with that reader. It took me over an hour to figure this out.

You might be able to get the reader for your iphone if you'd prefer to read it on there instead of your computer.

message 5735: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments does it have the new ADE on it? that is apparently causing a lot of issues for ppl

message 5736: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Mar 12, 2014 10:53AM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments On my reader? Probably. I know my laptop does and I hate the newer ADE. The old version on my computer worked so much better.

But a light bulb just went off over my head. I think I forgot to drag my book from ADE into my Nook tab, which is why I couldn't get it from my computer onto my reader into a form which would open. That was the only way you could do it before.

Hmmm...I might be able to fix the book for Ian, now that I'm thinking of it. Will check something this afternoon. *edit* nm, I can't. I don't have the wifi on that computer, so it would take about 10 steps and transferring between multiple readers to "possibly" get him a workable mobi format, and I can't even be sure that it would work.

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I don't know why there isn't a version of Digital Editions for iPad. I mean who reads books sitting at a desk? I think Digital Editions is OK with Kobo isn't it? I might just buy a Kobo so I can read it. lol...expensive ARC.

The above posts have reminded me why I only read e-books on Kindle: is so easy! lol!

Leea, hope you get some reading time soon!

Just read The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd by Sue Monk Kidd Can't even put into words how much I loved this book!

Also read Gold Digger (A Klondike Mystery #1) by Vicki Delany by Vicki Delany but doubt if I'll continue this series. I didn't connect with the characters.

Just have to say, if you have an iPad, download Bluefire Reader. It's really quite easy to move those pesky ADE files across to the iPad.

Took me 5 minutes to get the book onto my iPad and now I can read it and drink copious amounts of coffee as is my want to do.

Also, if you want to get around sideloading the book, just open Netgalley into a browser on your ipad and download right to the ipad.

Like Netgalley, it's a website where publishers make books/galleys available for advanced review. Edelweiss is open to reviewers, bloggers, librarians, and other qualified personnel. http://abovethetreeline.com/edelweiss/
