Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I just received a widget for all 5 - which makes the reading experience better. Waiting for the middle of the story doesn't ramp up my anticipation. It just irritates me!

Hopefully they will generally open it up to bloggers soon.

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) I just read Elysian Fields (Sentinels of New Orleans, #3) by Suzanne Johnson Ever get annoyed because it feels like there is just too much - too many magical powers packed in, too much mythology woven in. That's how I kind of felt about this.

Careful or you might catch up to your goal! LOL

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments LOL! Yes these short novellas and non fiction books on running are helping me a lot. :D

message 5507: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Oh I want to read Megan Hart's serial. Are all the books available on Netgalley?

It's been a frustrating week with work and I'm so glad it's Friday. I also haven't had much time to read this week. I am currently reading Ashes to Ashes (Experiment in Terror, #8) by Karina Halle .

message 5508: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments am I the only one who is kind of tired of the serial thing? I pretty much refuse to not only buy them, but rarely go back to that author when they make the jump to serials

message 5509: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments i'm reading Mr Good enough (I haven't made a GR record for it yet) - its an uncorrected proof from an author - should be out in the next couple of weeks

message 5510: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 419 comments Thanks for sharing, Cristy.

Dee, I think that so many authors have tried it. I really get discourage when I see them selling a few chapters at a time. You get sucked in this story and then part two which is less than 100 pages is now $2.99 or whatever.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I've actually tried to avoid serials in the past. I am not a fan of publishers milking a story to get more money out of it.

There are two reasons I tried the Hart serial. The first is that Hart is very hit and miss for me, so I figured a short snippet of a story would be a good gauge to decide whether or not I'd like the entire group as a whole. The second is that they were free, so it was no risk.

message 5512: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments I guess, if the author says serial is going to be x number of parts - I might be more forgiving, but there are ones that are like 10 parts...and its more than I would pay for a normal book and ridiculous

message 5513: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments This should be one book. I just read it all of them. There are 5 parts, it is a complete story. Each installment doesn't tell a story, you need all 5. And each one is being sold for $1.99. Amazon says they are 45 pages, but I think they are less than that. The first few are about 545 locations, the last few are about 700 locations. I just interviewed her and asked -- so why a serial? This seems like it is one story. I am interested to see what she says.

I like the story a lot. But I was able to read all of it in one or two sittings b/c I had the arcs. If this book was being sold for the price of her other new releases (which are not high) I would say yes -- buy it.

Anyway, the charcters are really well written. They are likable, but not perfect. The sex is really hot.

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I lost my kindle fire or it was stolen. :( I am not sure if I left it at work, it was stolen on the train or I left it on my table at lunch. I took it to lunch and read during lunch. So I could have left it on the table, but that would be weird and I remember grabbing it. But I called the restauirant and they don't have it. It could have fallen out of my purse under my desk or I could have taken it out after lunch, but again weird and unlikely -- I will check on Monday. I stood on the train and I don't have a zipper on my purse, I believe I held it in front of me, but I could have missed a few minutes. I only discovered I didn't have my kindle when a seat opened up and I sat down. :( So I deregistered it, changed my email password to (it is a Fire). I have had it for 18 months, not a newer one. I am hoping it is at work. If it isn't at work I will cry.

I'm half way through Queen of Camelot by Nancy McKenzie and i'm really enjoying it.

message 5525: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Thanks everyone. I can read on my phone until Monday. :( We do have my old kindle and our first kindle fire, but I know this sounds silly -- they just aren't my kindle fire. Ack, so much time goes into load books. sigh, So if I don't find it at work, then I will use the gift certificate from my dad and get another one. I will likely get the least expensive Fire, or see if there is a refurbished one. Sucks. I was using that GC for books I wanted to buy (that for some reason I can't get from NG or Edelweiss ;)).

Dee just saw your question -- those look good and I just requested from the library the one about the guy who transformed himself. Running consistently is new for me. All my life I did different exercsing (dance, yoga, high impact aerobics, strength, walking - but hated running). Several years ago I started sporadically running, but still hated it. But since November, I approached it differently and am not loving it. So my books are really beginners books *blush*. :)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Regina wrote: "We do have my old kindle and our first kindle fire, but I know this sounds silly -- they just aren't my kindle fire."

It's not silly at all. I was talking about this with someone just the other day. Back in the day, for people who traveled or lived out of a pack a book was often home. I had a copy of Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa and that book went everywhere I did.

These days I think we get the same sense from our Kindles and iPhones. Doesn't matter where you are you pull out the Kindle and you're home.

So in a sense losing your Kindle is like losing a little bit of home. I'm sorry that it's missing and I hope it's safe and just sitting somewhere near your desk on Monday.

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I'm just starting A Man to Hold on To by Marilyn Pappano and Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. Outlander is intimidating. If that book landed on your foot there could be broken bones.

A Man to Hold on To by Marilyn Pappano Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon

message 5528: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Ian, so beautifully and well said. Thank you. :)

LOL -- just remember, the first 50 pages are slow in Outlander. But after that, it is beautiful.

Just hang in there. Like everyone said, it takes a while, but it will get there.

Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) | 24 comments I agree with the others, Outlander is definitely worth it!! It's my all-time favorite series. It's definitely daunting at first and it's quite an undertaking...but totally EPIC! :)

message 5534: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Damn...you're right about a slow start. I'm sure this stuff is all important later on but right now it's only a little more interesting than reading a washing machine manual.

:(

Aw. I hope it picks up for you!

Outlander can be a task at times. Diana Gabaldon is so detailed and descriptive in her writing style so some parts seem slower than others. I have a few friends who I begged to read it and they ended up disliking it. Some never made it through the first book. They probably thought I was crazy for raving about the book so much, lol. *shrug* It happens.

message 5536: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 419 comments It's a task to read it. She is very descriptive. I am one of the few who dislike the book though I completed it.

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Jessa ♥dhanger♥ EvilDarkSide wrote: "Aw. I hope it picks up for you! "

I'm only at Chapter 3 and everyone I've spoken to has said the first 50 or so pages are dull so I wasn't expecting to love it from page 1.

I have to say, I really hate love triangles and it's looking like an epic love triangle spanning 400 years. I'm a bit worried about that. lol...a 900 page love triangle will probably kill me.

Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) | 24 comments Hm, well, I wouldn't really call it a love triangle. Its hard to get in to without any spoilers but it's probably not what you are thinking :)

message 5539: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished Skin in the Game (Play Action #1) by Jackie Barbosa and it was okay. I also finished Tempts Me (Every Part of You, #1) by Megan Hart and liked it. I will read #2 next. I hope everyone had a nice weekend.

message 5540: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Ian, keep reading :) I don't like love triangles either, but this is different.

I'm 70% into Queen of Camelot by Nancy McKenzie and it's so good. Tons of action and the characters are either lovable or you want to kill them. ha!!

Regina, were we still going to read Four Friends by Robyn Carr tomorrow? or did I get the date wrong. haha!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I'm worried that Ian might be put off by the (view spoiler) He is such a protector of women that some of that attitude might not sit well with him.

I'm still working through Queen of Camelot as well and agree with Leea. It's a lengthy book, but worth the read (so far at least).

I have two galleys due out Tuesday that I will probably work on if I can find time (will probably be out of the house most of tomorrow though). One of them can probably be pushed off because I've reviewed the entire series for that publisher other than the first two books (Mythos Academy), but the other one I will have to try to fit in as well as possible because I've skipped reviewing too many of my galleys for them and I might be in danger of losing permissions if I don't get in gear.

I agree. There are two love interests, but it isn't a love triangle in the sense that she goes back and forth between two men like it's a ping pong match.

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments So I am listening to Dark Places by Gillian Flynn and it is amazing. This book was written to be read. If you want to read it, I highly recommend listening to it. I can't wait for this movie now.

I am also reading Donners of the Dead by Karina Halle -- slow beginning. I wasn't a fan of the writing style, or maybe just how the main character was being written. But it is starting to get good.

message 5548: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Oh, I also finished The Lowland by Jhumpa Lahiri (the audio) and it was amazing, sad and beautiful. And I finished the audio of Perdition (Dred Chronicles, #1) by Ann Aguirre - fun action sci fi. Very similar to Sirantha Jax in feel.

I am also reading The Book of the Crowman (Black Dawn #2) by Joseph D'Lacey -- I loved the first and am excited to be reading the sequel. Great fantasy/post apoc story.
