Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Killing Floor was pretty good. I think the author has lost the plot in the last few books but the early books were good.

I'm reading State of the Onion which is about a chef who works in the White House. Using puns in book titles...why do authors do that? Anyway from the title I wasn't expecting to like it, but it's pretty good fun.

I also started Love Like the Movies which is promising to be very good as well.

State of the Onion (A White House Chef Mystery, #1) by Julie Hyzy Love Like the Movies by Victoria Van Tiem

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I am reading The Polaris Uprising (Polaris, #1) by Jennifer Ibarra .

message 5453: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments I like the White House mysteries - they are cute reads...not too brain taxing but cute - i think i've read 2 or 3 of them now - cozy's are good palete cleansers

I'm reading Margot - the basic premise - what is Anne Frank's sister had survived the concentration camps and now lived in the US...I did have to suspense disbelief at first, but the author is doing a pretty decent job of developing the story and how it could have happened

message 5454: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Huh, I may consider reading it -- thank you!

I am listening to Perdition (Dred Chronicles, #1) by Ann Aguirre and it is good so far, it is a Sirantha Jax spin off.

I am reading House of Glass by Sophie Littlefield and I just love almost everything Sophie Littlefield writes. This one is starting out good too.

I thought the first was just, but that's mainly because it's a serial, so I was waiting for something to start and then it just ended. But it hooked me enough to want to read the next and I'm glad that I did because the second was pretty good.

You'll have to let me know what you think of Love Like the Movies. I remember Jill(?) mentioning it.

Snuck in the prologue of Queen of Camelot by Nancy McKenzie and I almost sort of wish that the prologue wasn't there because it gives you the ending! I mean, not that I don't know what happens because it is a Camelot re-imagining, but I hope that the prologue wasn't the "end" without anything else. Maybe we'll get another end after that one, haha.

message 5456: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I agree Stacia. The Prologue sucked me in and now I'm hoping we get more after that too. This book is long, read for over an hour and am still 4% in... haha!

At the airport, flying to Palm Springs, we return Friday. Much needed R & R and I hope lots of reading time :)

message 5457: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Have fun, Leea! :)

message 5458: by Peggyzbooksnmusic (new)

Peggyzbooksnmusic Not reading this currently, but just a heads up that Forever Amber Forever Amber by Kathleen Winsor by Kathleen Winsor is now priced at $3.49 for Kindle on Amazon. Not sure how long it will be at this price and probably only for USA? One of my favorite reads as a teenager!

message 5459: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 159 comments Finished Forbidden Forest (Legends of Regia, #1) by Tenaya Jayne which fell flat for me.

Started Escorted (Escorted, #1) by Claire Kent which is pretty interesting!

message 5460: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I decided to start a historical Fallen Angel by Charlotte Louise Dolan ...an old romance released in '93. So far, it's going ok.

Have fun in Palm Springs, Leea.

message 5461: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments How fun though. I often don't like old romances, but they are still a kick to read. The cover is great. :)

Enjoy Palm Springs Leea!

I finished House of Glass by Sophie Littlefield and I liked a lot about it, but ultimately the book was not what I was expecting. I hate to say it, but I didn't like it and wouldn't recommend it. I feel so bad saying that!

I am starting Donners of the Dead by Karina Halle -- I love this author!

Perdition (Dred Chronicles, #1) by Ann Aguirre is going okay. Very interesting setting. I now realize that it takes place about 100 years after Sirantha Jax.

message 5462: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Oh the cross-over is Jael -- he is the mercenary from Sirantha Jax -- if you all remember him from that series.

That is an interesting idea for a book.

I read Escorted a little while ago. It was a bit awkward in parts, but I thought some of the scenes lent themselves well to the realism of the situation.

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments anyone read Lords of the Underworld here? I've read up to book 5, but book 10 was nominated for the romance audiobook of the year and I wanted to listen...do I need to read the rest so i'm not totally lost, or can I jump around?

ditto with Bella Andre and her Sullivans series - i've read book 1 and 2, but book 10 was nominated

OMG Peggy, i love Forever Amber by Kathleen Winsor !! i read it back when i was in my early 20's. it was the first novel i read of that size and i loved every page. have u read Through a Glass Darkly (Through a Glass Darkly, #2) by Karleen Koen ? it's also really good. it's a trilogy too.

message 5469: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I didn't realize that Through a glass was part of a trilogy. I read it years ago and really enjoyed it.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments Regina--I'm assuming you know because I saw this on your blog, but Kay and Leea...did you see this was out now? I think you were the ones who recommended this series to me.

Reflected (Silver, #3) by Rhiannon Held

I also got that rec from Regina. I haven't read it yet but I've been meaning to.

message 5473: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished reading Fallen Angel by Charlotte Louise Dolan and it was ok.

I don't know what to read next. I am off to search....

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Kay, I hope you can join us at some point on Queen of Camelot. I'm about 30% now and wow, it's so good. The first 10% was a lot of character background, but I think Leea didn't mind it the way I did.

message 5475: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Began and walked away from Reapers Touch....well written but it felt kind of rapey...not for me.

Reaper's Touch by Eleri Stone

Started Eggsecutive Orders...damn pun titles are driving me insane but the books are good fun.

Eggsecutive Orders (A White House Chef Mystery, #3) by Julie Hyzy

Sad to say I requested the ARC of Dreams of Gods and Monsters but Hachette declined me. lol...once wasn't enough, they declined me twice.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I actually do feel bad that you got rejected, no matter how jealous I am of everyone who has it (Jill O.o). Was that second rejection after you wrote them like it was suggested, or did you decide against that?

message 5477: by Ian (last edited Feb 19, 2014 11:10AM) (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Yeah I sent them an e-mail and received the polite thanks but no thanks...

"Thanks for your email.

No, you were not rejected on the basis of location, but due to the popularity of this book we are only selecting key media, bloggers and booksellers that we currently work with."

message 5478: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments I got a rejection from Netgalley one day for avoid that I had already downloaded

message 5479: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Angie, I still have only read the first in that series. It is good ole urban fantasy, with a male protag. The romance in the first is very light but it is an overtone. My friend I blog with loves #2 and #3 and she says the romance gets stronger. Hmmmm, I may read the sequel this month! Thanks for the reminder. :)

message 5480: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 159 comments Finished Escorted (Escorted, #1) by Claire Kent , which I really enjoyed.

Starting Dirty (Dan and Elle, #1) by Megan Hart .

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I really enjoyed dirty. It was heavier and more intense than I expected.

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 173 comments ooh Courtney, i hope u enjoy Dirty (Dan and Elle, #1) by Megan Hart . i got way more than i was hoping for in this novel. i absolutely loved the plot. and was pretty heavy, like Regina said, but so well done.

Wasn't Escorted a trip? I thought the dental dam conversations were funny.

message 5486: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Feb 19, 2014 07:53PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Kay, I hope you get the chance to. It is long, but I think Leea and myself aren't in any hurry to have to get it read in a day or two anyway.

I only had a few minutes while the kid was in the bath, so I switched over to finish an arc I'd started a couple of days ago.

Playing by the Book by S. Chris Shirley = me not a happy camper. So much missed potential made me rant a little...okay, a lot.

message 5487: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 159 comments Stacia - Yeah, there were definitely some interesting moments in that book. And I really liked some of the more intimate scenes.

And let's hope I enjoy Dirty as well as I did Escorted!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Did you ever read Damaged Goods by Lauren Gallagher ? That is still my all time favorite book with a male escort in it.

message 5489: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 159 comments No, I haven't. I know I've read the summary before, though. The male escort theme was strange for me in Escorted and I was thinking along the same lines as in your review about (view spoiler). However, it is an intriguing theme as well.

message 5490: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) I hate when the only thing I feel like reading isn't out yet. The next Mercy Thompson book can't come soon enough.

message 5491: by Crystal (new)

Crystal Navarro (kanarenee) I have been having trouble getting myself to read. My mind is in a million different places all the time that I can't focus on anything. :(

message 5492: by Peggyzbooksnmusic (new)

Peggyzbooksnmusic @Domino & Leea, I forgot that I have Through a Glass Darkly on Kindle! I also didn't know it was part of a series. Can it be read as a stand alone? Thanks so much for mentioning it to jog my memory!

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I am reading Resists Me (Every Part of You, #2) by Megan Hart and loving it.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I'm curious if you'll see a few things that made me think of Willing Victim (in a good way).

message 5498: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I did. Just finished. Do you mean how she defines what she likes and doesn't? (view spoiler) I liked the distinction. I haven't read another author who has made that distinction (other than McKenna).

I am starting Taunts Me (Every Part of You, #3) by Megan Hart - I don't like the serial, I wish it was one book.

message 5499: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Feb 20, 2014 10:58PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Yes, the spoiler.

I don't like the serial format either because I wouldn't ever pay for something that was only a few chapters long. How did you end up with part 3? I only got access to the first 2 parts.

Compare books tells me you haven't read Skinwalker by Faith Hunter. There are some similarities to the Mercy Thompson books but still very good in my opinion.
